Woods Subject: Civics Topic: Wor place injuries

In every wor place injuries are b ound to happen, but they can be reduced if safety rules are followed. Unfortuna tely, a lot of injuries still occur because so many wor ers are ignorant to thes e rules, or because wor ers are afraid to fight for their rights. Moreso, Some of the common injuries that occur are bodily, health related or material spills injuries. under the bodily injuries, one could have things li e, physical damage, burns, abrasions, contusions hearing damage, severe injuries, on the other hand, under health related injuries one could have things li e, vir uses, bacteria, mildew, mould, fungus, bites and stings, medical waste, uncleann ess. finally under material spills, one could unfortuntley spill poisonous fumes , corrosive liquids or combustible materials on one's self. What all these vario us accidents have in common are the negative effects they have on a human beings body. Everything in life happens for a reason. These accidents happen due to the various reasons: unsafe wor conditions(poor lighting, poor air quality, bloc e d passageways, poor safety equipment, poor storage of inventory, poor garbage pr actices, overloaded electrical outlets etc), unsafe wor behaviour(improper s il ls, ta ing ris s, falling to close compartments, not wearing safety gear, not we aring safety equipment, ma ing unqualified repairs), unsafe wor attitudes(carel essness, showing off, anger, fatigue). All these are the various reasons why acc idents are so common and frequent in various wor places. In life everything has a reason, as well as preventions. Some of the preventions of theses accidents a re: Safe wor ing conditions(natural lighting, fresh air, open passage ways, fix safety gear, do not overstoc , clean up, proper power service.), safe wor behav iour(safety training, play it safe, shut the door, wear the right gear, use safe ty equipment, now who to call), safe wor attitudes(pay attention, no need to i mpress, self-control, be alert). Before getting involved in any job, one should be aware of the ris s involved and the ways to prevent theses casualties from happening, therefore the awarene ss would be there and ignorance would be illed. Both employers and employees pl ay an important role in preventing injuries. As an employee, the questions to as yourself are; what are my rights and what are my responsibilities. An employee also has the responsibilities to practice safe wor , report all unsafe wor , dr ess for the job appropriately, report all wor injuries. On the other hand an employer is meant to abide by the labour and Ontario's occupational health and safety act and th wor place hazards, inform wor ers abou t foreseeable wor place hazards. He is also meant to maintain a procedure to rep ort unsafe wor ing conditions, most importantly, he is meant to pay employees fo r wor -related injuries. An employer is also meant to provide and maintain a safe and healthy wor place, organize a joint health and safety information, post health and safety informati on etc. Roles of WSIB The WSIB is responsible for supervising Ontario's wor place and safety education and training programs, manage the province's no-fault wor place insurance, supp ly disability benefits, monitor the quality of health care, assits in early and safe return to wor .
