16) a)The forces 10N, 20N, 30N and 40N are acting on one of the vertices of a regular Pentagon, towards the other four vertices taken in order. Find the Magnitude and direction of the resultant force R. (14)

Maximum marks: 100

Or b)A circular roller of radius 20 cm and of weight 400N rests on a smooth horizontal surface and is held in position by an inclined bar AB of length 60 cm as shown in fig. A horizontal force of 500 N is acting at B. Find the tension in the bar AB and reaction at C. (14)

17) a) Find the support reactions of a beam shown in figure.

b) Determine the tension in the cables AB, AC and AD are shown in figure, if the weight is 10kg. (14)

18) a) Determine Moment of Inertia of an I section shown in fig. about its centroidal axes. (14)

Or b) Locate the centroid of the section shown in fig. (14)

19) a) A gun is so designed that on firing, the barrel recoils against a spring. A dashpot, at the end of the recoil, allows the barrel to come back to its initial position within the minimum time without any oscillation. A gun barrel has a mass of 500kg and a recoil spring of 300 N/mm. The barrel recoils 1m on firing. Determine (1) t h e initial recoil velocity of the gun barrel and (2) t h e critical damping coefficient of the dashpot engaged at the end of the recoil strike (14) Or

b) A bullet of mass 30gm is fired horizontally into a body of mass 10 Kg, which is suspended by a string of 0.8m long. Due to this impact, the body swings through an angle of 30. Find the velocity of the bullet. (14)

20) a) Block P of weight 100N and block Q of weight 50 N are connected by a cord that passes over a smooth pulley as shown in figure. Find the acceleration of the blocks and the tension in the cord when the system is released from rest. Neglect the mass of the pulley. Use the principle of work and energy. (14)

Or b) Block (2) rests on block (1) and is attached by a horizontal rope AB to the wall as shown in fig. What force P is needed to cause motion of block (1) to impend? The co-efficient of friction between blocks is 0.25 and between the floor and block (1) is 0.33. (14)
