The word preposition comes from Latin, a language in which such a word is usually placed before its complement. Prepositions are words or groups of words which are use with the some noun or before nouns or pronouns
to indicate the place, or the direction, or the position where an action is performed. Examples ii. The boy sat on the chair. ii. The book is under the table. iii. The pencil is in it.

Preposition serve to connect parts of a sentence and to specify a particular relationship between these connected parts. In the example; the boy sat on the chair, the preposition links the verb sat and the sequence the chair. _ the girl in blue skirt beat me The preposition links the girl and the blue skirt Some commonly used preposition are; about, above against, before, below, between, across, after, inside, from, under, within, unto, up etc. Types of preposition There are two type of preposition: i. Simple prepositions; these are single word prepositions e.g. across, beside, behind, after, by, down, behind, at, to, without, about, under, within, with, from, towards, during, down, beyond, between, beneath, below, before, amid, against, above, along etc. EXAMPLES i. They danced in the room. ii. They sat beside his friend. iii. The cat slept on the mat.

Compound; along with , as to , away from , according to, agree to (something), agree with (something),aim at, angry at (something), due to , disappointed in (something), disappointed with (somebody), disappointed in(somebody), equal to, victim of , apart from etc ii. Complex preposition; these are complex structures made up of a simple preposition followed by a noun and the followed by another simple preposition. E.g. Preposition of time: answers the question when and how long. E.g. Between, during, from, throughout. I sat for the exam in March. During the day, I study well. Preposition of reason; provides reasons and causes of an activity e.g. as a result, because of, on account of. Preposition of instrument: give information about the means of the instrument by which give information about the means of the instrument by which certain action are performed. E.g. By, by means of, with, without. Examples: ii. They travelled to Akomadan by car. ii. You can cut the bread with a knife.

Preposition of concession: Express concessive relationship E.g. apart from, as for , with the ,exception of , in spite of , notwithstanding etc. examples; Except for his bad manners, he is an amiable fellow.
