Blending beds are stockpile stores in which different properties of bulk materials are mixed through the way of stacking or reclaiming. They are intended, for example, for premixing various ores and aggregates or for mixing various types of coal. By means of specific stacking methods, raw materials of different quality and grain size will be homogenized.

Stackers are intended for depositing bulk materials into stockpiles or blending beds in circular or longitudinal stocks. Most usual are mobile stackers with raising and lowering booms. Scraper reclaimers and bucket wheel reclaimers are intended for continuous reclaiming even of such bulk materials which tend to pasting or compacting. In such a case removal is done by side and portal scrapers at the side of the stockpile as well as with bridge-type scrapers and bucket wheel reclaimers at the front of the stockpile or blending bed.

Blending bed equipment strips the stockpile basically at its front side. A transversely movable rake will loosen the bulk material from the stockpile which will result in a mixture from various layers. For obtaining a maximum blending effect, bridge-type scrapers are used predominantly, they take up the premixed material at the base of the stockpile and mix the same once again.
