MAGLALATIK IHISTORY / ORIGIN The Maglalatik dance is performed to remember a battle against the Christians and the Moros for coconut meat, also known as "latik." The battle occurred during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines and is also performed to pay tribute to the Saint of Bi'an. The dance has four parts: baligtaran, palipasan, paseo, and escaramusa, and is only performed by males, who wear blue pants for the Christians and red pants for the Moros. The dancers also wear coconut shells on their bodies.

II CHARACTERISTICS/ DESCRIPTIONS Maglalatik is danced to mimic the early battle against Christians and Moros tow in coconut meat or latik during the time of Spanish colonization. This is also performed to pay homage to the town saint of Bian, Laguna San Isidro Labrador. This dance is divided intofour parts: baligtaran, palipasan, paseo and escaramusa. This is performed by all-male dancerswho wear blue pants to represent the Christians and red pant for the Moros. All dancers,however, have coconut shells mounted on their body parts. Creative and colorful; these are some of the things that you can use to label the Philippine dances that define its culture. And for sure you will not be disappointed, since the countrys dances are all creative and colorful. An example is the Philippine dance called the 'Maglalatik' that is sure to catch the fancy of those looking for a traditional dance that goes down to the basics, and of course a dance that is colorful and festive. This dance is also called as 'Magbabao' which can mean 'the one using the 'bao' and the 'bao' is the coconut shell. Throughout the dance, the viewers of the dance can expect that most of the dance moves that will be performed by the

dancers will focus on the use of these 'baos' or the coconut shells and some of the noises or the music that will be used by the dance will be generated by these coconut shells III- COSTUME / ACCESSORIES usually danced shirtless with trousers together with coconut shells around the body. *trousers: Moros wear red trousers and blue for the Christians *coconut shell: 4 pairs of coconut shell. a pair for both leg, located in the knees. 2 pairs for the body, one in front for the chest part and another one at the back. and a pair for the hands(for tapping) IV- MUSIC AND RHYTHM The music used in this folk dance is produced by the tapping of the coconut shells all around the dancers bodies. The rhythm of the dance is 4/4.
