Philippines Natural Wonders Beaches Philippines has been well-known for its awesome beaches.

Widely known as one of the finest swimming destinations in the world is Boracay. It lies at the northwest tip of Panay and is one of the best tourist destinations in the Philippines. Its beaches have received numerous awards. Bohol is the favorite destination of foreign and local travelers because of its coastline skimmed and white sand beaches located in Panglao. It is popular for its beautiful dive spots and its coral reef, as well as many several islet ideal for beach bathing. White Island located just 1.4 kilometers off the northern shores of Camiguin is also a popular tourist destination in the island. The island is generally horseshoe shaped although the tides constantly resize and reshape its exact form. Cebu has its fair share of great beaches also situated in Bantayan Island and Mactan Island. Falls Philippines is also abundant of waterfalls. Pagsanjan Falls is undeniably one of the most well-known waterfalls which is located in the province of Laguna. Its one of the the major tourist attractions in the region and on the top list of popular tourist attractions in the Philippines. To reach Pagsanjan Falls, tourists or visitors have to ride on bancas (native canoes) manned by skilled Pagsanjeo boatmen (bankeros). Maria Cristina Falls is the landmark of Iligan City which is nicknamed as the City of Majestic Waterfalls because of the presence of 23 waterfalls in the city. Of the 23 majestic waterfalls, Tinago Falls is the best and is one of the main attractions in the city. Tinago is a Filipino term which means hidden, it lies hidden in a deep ravine and is approximately 240 feet high. The highest waterfall in the country is the 1,110 feet and 20 meters in width Aliwagwag Falls located in Cateel town, Davao Oriental province. It is a series of 84 falls appearing like stairway to heaven with various heights among the steps ranging from 6 to 110 feet and is regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Mindanao. Mountains and Volcanoes The country is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire which experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity. There are 37 volcanoes in the country, 18 of which are still active. One of the active volcanoes is Mayon Volcano situated in Albay, standing at around 2460 meters and is the most famous landform in the province and one of the popular tourist attractions in the Philippines. Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located in the Tri-Cabusilan Mountain range separating the west coast of Luzon. A crater lake was eventually formed in the 1991 caldera. Initially, the lake was hot and highly acidic with a temperature of about 40 C. The subsequent rainfall cooled and diluted the lake lowering the temperature to 26 C. Other volcanoes that are active and are permanently monitored since its last eruption are Mount Kanlaon and Mount Bulusan. Most of the mountainous islands in the country are covered with tropical rainforest. The highest mountain is Mount Apo, a large solfataric, potentially-active stratovolcano. It measures up to 9,692 feet above sea level and is located in the island of Mindanao. Apo which means ancestor is flat-topped mountain with three peaks and is capped by a 1,600 feet volcanic crater containing a small crater lake. The date of its most recent eruption is unknown and none are verified in historical times. Its majestic peak is one of the countrys most popular climbing destinations which will take 2 days to reach on average. Chocolate Hills The Chocolate Hills are an unusual geological formation in Bohol province. According to the survey, there are approximately 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (20 sq mi) which are covered in green grass that turns brown during dry season. These cone-shaped or dome-shaped hills are actually made of grasscovered limestone. Its the famous tourist attraction in Bohol. Loboc River Cruise The Loboc River Cruise is a popular tourist attraction in Bohol. There are 3 cruise options: Banca Cruise, Floating Reataurant Cruise, and Night Cruise. The starting point of the cruise is across Loboc Church all the way up to Busay Falls. Its one of the most visited tourist spots in Bohol. The falls are not high, just about one and a half meter, but it marks the point where the floating restaurant cannot go any further, so there they stay for a while to allow the guests to have a glance at the landscape.

Philippine Tarsier The Philippine Tarsier is an endangered species endemic to the Philippines. It is also known as mawmag in Cebuano/Visayan. Its name is derived from its elongated tarsus or ankle bone. Philippine Tarsier is very peculiar small animal. In fact it is one of the smallest known primates.

Boracay Boracay is one of a cluster of islands of Panay in the Western Visayas. It is a small bone-shaped island located approximately 200 kilometers south of Manila and is part of the municipality of Malay in the province of Aklan. It is comprised of three barangays called the Manoc-Manoc, the Balabag, and the barangay of Yapak. Yapak lies in the north, Balabag in the center and Manoc-Manoc in the south. Boracay is known as an island paradise because of its powder white beaches and crystal blue water, tropical palms and flowering plants, and a healthy marine life under the seas. Boracay White Beach White Beach is the main tourism beach in Boracay. It is about four kilometers long and is lined with resorts, hotels, lodging houses, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses. In addition, this tourist destination is also a good place where travelers can do special recreational activities. Situated at the western region of the island, White Beach is easy to find. It is one of the areas in Boracay that is very accessible especially for first-timers.

Among the rarest, largest, and most powerful bird in the world that has been declared as the Philippines national bird is Philippine Eagle. It is critically endangered due to massive loss of habitat because of deforestation in most of its range. The Philippine Eagle Foundation of Davao City in Mindanao is one organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of the Philippine Eagle and its forest habitat. The foundation has successfully bred Philippine Eagles in captivity for over a decade and has 32 eagles at its center. The Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) is about an hour drive from the city and can be reached either by private or public transport. Its one of the most visited tourist spots in Davao.

Lolong The Crocodile

The hunt for a crocodile that ate a water buffalo in a small Philippine town is over, and locals hope to turn the creature into its star tourist attraction. The animal, named Lolong after a wildlife expert who died of a stroke during the twoweek hunt for the buffalo-killer, will live in a cage to be built in Barangay Consuelo in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
