TOPICS: a.) LTE Features b.) LTE Architecture c.)LTE Vs WIMAX

LTE Long Term Evolution (LTE) is 3GPPs plans for the future beyond the Release 7 Specifications. Focus of LTE is on the enhancement of the Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA), commonly known as the 3G Radio Access Network (3G RAN) LTE aims to ensure the continued competitiveness of the 3GPP Technologies for a longer term (10 years and beyond)

LTE Features FDD ad TDD Support Leverage Wider Spectrum Leverage 3GPPs Technology Expertise Low Latency High Peak Rates Up to 100 Mbps High Capacity Seamless Hand overs All IpP System with Qos

LTE Architecture SAE or System Architecture Evolution is another Work Item in 3GPP whose objective is to develop a framework for an evolution or migration of the 3GPP system to a higher data rate, lower latency, and packet optimized system that supports multi- Radio Access Technologies (GERAN, UTRAN, LTE, WiMAX, or even wired technologies). Focus of SAE is on the PS domain with the assumption that voice services are already supported in this domain.

Relevance of Course: Long Term Evolution is related to Cellular Evolution. Cellular Evolution started Analog standards include AMPS (Advance Mobile Phone System), N-AMPS

(Narrowband AMPS), TACS(Total Access Communication System), NMT(Nordic Mobile Telephone). Then Evolve to Digital standards include JDC (Japanese Digital Cellular), USDC (US Digital Cellular), TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication). Then Evolve to GSM 900, GSM 1800, 1st Generation, 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, and Now 4th Generation or Long Tem Evolution.

Conlusion: Long Term Evolution is a standard for wireless communication of highspeed data for mobile phones and data terminals Its ha s a high speed rates up to 100 Mbps High Capacity, Wider Spectrum, & Low Latency. The LTE

wireless interface is incompatible with 2G and 3G networks, so that it must be operated on a separate wireless spectrum. The LTE standard can be used with many different frequency bands. In North America, 700/ 800 and 1700/ 1900 MHz are planned to be used; 800, 1800, 2600 MHz in Europe; 1800 and 2600 MHz in Asia; and 1800 MHz in Australia. As a result, phones from one country may not work in other countries. Users will need a multi-band capable phone for roaming internationally.
