Mississippi State University

Participation: When working in groups of two or more, each member of the group is expected to actively participate in carrying out the lab exercise. Do not rely on your partners for all of the work and answers. Work in groups of 2 unless there is insufficient room or equipment. Lab Manual: The lab manual can be found at http://physics.msstate.edu/labs/. You need to have read the lab manual for each lab before you come to lab. Pre-lab Worksheet: Each week you will need to fill out a pre-lab introduction page. (This form can be downloaded from the labs website.) This is due at the beginning of the scheduled lab period. Do not attempt to do this in class. This will help you prepare for what you will be doing for that lab period. Lab Worksheet: At the beginning of each lab a worksheet will be provided for you. These need to be fully completed and turned in before the end of lab. Grades: Grades for lab are based solely on your 10 weekly lab reports. They will be graded as follows: Pre-lab Worksheet 15% Lab Worksheet 85% Staple your raw data to the back of the each lab report. If you do not get at least a 70% in lab, you will fail the lecture regardless of your lecture grade.

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. A lab grade for a missed lab is 0. The physics department has make-up policies for the case that a lab is missed. (NO exceptions!!!) There are two methods for making-up labs. You could choose to either: a. Meet with another section where the same lab is being taught. In such a case, getting the paper graded and reported is the responsibility of the student. The student should communicate with the TAs of both labs. OR b. There is one make-up week at the end of the semester. Irrespective of which lab you missed, you will be performing the scheduled make-up lab. Sidenotes: Students who work together in groups may have similar observations and recorded data, but all other work such as pre-lab write-up, graphs, etc. cannot be the same, which means, DO NOT COPY your partners work. Copied worksheets will receive an 0 grade. (b) Please turn off your cell phones while you are in the lab. (c) After you have completed the lab exercise(s), please make sure that the apparatus is disassembled and your table cleaned and tidied up before leaving. (d) Lab computers are to used for lab purposes only. Do not access the network on these computers!!!
