Cautions
Installation of this equipment should only be undertaken by suitably trained andauthorized personnel. The MRP2000 repeater operates from a DC power source between 12 and16 volts. NEVER connect to a power source of more than 16v DC. Voltage above 16 volts DC will cause damage to the transceivers and repeater interface controller. DO NOT reverse the polarity of the power supply when connecting the MRP2000. DO NOT operate the MRP2000 in extreme temperature ranges; below -10C or above +60C. NEVER operate the MRP2000 without both antennas connected to the aerial ports, as this will cause damage to the PA devices of the transceivers. BEWARE The transceivers inside the MRP2000 may become hot. Care should be taken to not touch the transceiver casing if opening the repeater soon after use.

Introduction
This instruction manual details the installation and configuration of the MRP2000 mobile repeater unit. The MRP2000 is a cross band repeater comprising three ICOM PMR mobiles (1 VHF and 2 UHF), two control heads and two fist microphones (for in-vehicle use). The radio equipment, antenna duplexer and repeater control circuitry are housed in a lockable steel enclosure. The MRP2000 mobile repeater has been designed to offer maximum communication flexibility. It provides essential radio communication in several operational modes : between control room and ambulance crew whilst in the vehicle between control room and crew members when they are out of the vehicle between individual crew members when they are out of the vehicle.

For VHF operation the IC-F1010 model is used, for UHF 2 x IC-F2010. The IC-F1010 VHF transceiver is a standard 25 Watt PMR mobile supporting multiple signalling formats. The two F2010 UHF transceivers are standard ICOM PMR mobiles, with multiple signalling formats. One radio is configured to act as a receiver, the other as the transmitter. Transmit power is set to 2 Watts for extended talk through operation and lower current consumption. Note : The transmit power output should not be changed. Programming and configuration of the repeater is easily achieved using PC software. Configuration data is transferred via the microphone sockets on the radio heads, there is no need to remove the radios from the enclosure. A custom version of the CSF1000 PC programming package has been designed for the MRP2000. The MRP2000 can be connected to a data system for which an external connector is provided. The input provides an option to SELCALL the UHF hand portable if a data message is received while the operator is away from the vehicle. The output provides the facility to send a message to the control room when the MRP2000 receives an emergency SELCALL from the UHF hand portable.

Programming
Repeater programming and configuration is carried out by the use of custom PC software specially designed for the MRP2000. The MRP2000 should not be programmed with the standard IC-F1010 / IC-F2010 programming software. Programming interconnection leads are required (not supplied). These are the standard OPC478 and OPC592 cables and provide connection between the PC and radio microphone socket. Before programming can be carried out it is necessary to connect the remote heads to the MRP2000 and install the ICOM CSF1000 programming software to a suitable PC. Please see Figure 4 (Connection and Installation section) for connection information. Computer requirements Please note the Icom Programming software requires an IBM compatible PC 486/Pentium CPU using any of the following operating systems ; MSDOS (version 4 or later) Windows 3.x Windows 95 or Windows 98.

The programming software will not operate under Windows NT or Windows 2000. Program Start Up Ensure the software is correctly installed. Start the software by running the CSF1000.exe program. Select the serial port that will be used to program the radios (the setting for this is found in the RS232 menu) and connect the leads between the PC and the MRP2000. The radios are pre-programmed with default data. To prevent possible corruption or loss of essential operational information it is strongly recommended that configuration data be read from the radios into the PC, edited as required and written back to the radio(s). See the following notes for extra programming options.

UHF programming
The UHF radios are pre-programmed with default data. To ensure correct operation and power output it is strongly recommended that this data be read from the radio(s) into the PC, edited as required and written back to the radio(s). Both UHF radios are programmed together, the custom software in the UHF receiver controls most of the programmable functions for the repeater. In the Key and Display Assign screen (Figure 1 below) there are 2 specific functions for the programmable keys : Special Function 1 Special Function 2 UHF talk through control (UHF UHF) VHF talk through control (VHF UHF)

Figure 1

These functions allow the operator to turn the talk-through facility ON or OFF. A short push of the radio function key turns the talk-through ON and a long push turns the talk through OFF. In the RX Code CH screen (Figure 2) the Auto TX Timer sets the talkthrough time out limit from 01~255, these settings are in seconds ( 1 second ~ 4 minutes and 15 seconds maximum). Once the time out limit is reached, the repeater transmitter will drop and a double beep will sound, the UHF T/T Mode indication (see Figure 7) on the display will disappear. Talk-through may be re-initiated by the reception of a valid SELCALL or by use of the front panel button. A setting of 0 will disable the time out timer.

Page 3

MRP2000 Installer Manual.doc

Also in the RX Code CH screen (Figure 2) the first four decode positions are used to turn the talk through modes ON and OFF as follows: RX CH 1 RX CH 2 RX CH 3 RX CH 4 RX CH 5 8 UHF talk through ENABLE UHF talk through DISABLE VHF talk through ENABLE VHF talk through DISABLE Unassigned (may be programmed as required)

Figure 2

Optional SELCALL Encode using the external I/O Port. A SELCALL may be sent to a hand portable to notify the user that a message has been received on the data terminal. This is programmed by enabling a TX station code in the Memory Channel screen (Figure 3), the same TX code is sent by using the Call key if programmed. (See page 10 EXTERNAL I/O).

Figure 3 Page 4

Optional SELCALL Decode using the external I/O Port. The data system can be notified by an emergency SELCALL received from a hand portable. This is programmed by enabling a EXO option in the RX Code CH screen. See Figure 4. By switching the EXO function to ON the received SELCALL programmed in the associated CH No will activate the output. Example Figure 4 shows the received SELCALL, 55555 will activate the external output line as EXO = ON.

VHF programming
The VHF radio is pre-programmed with default data. It is preferable to read this data into the PC, edit as required and write back to the radio. The VHF radio may be programmed with the normal functions. The only additional function that may be enabled (if required) is a decode position to enable a valid SELCALL to remotely turn the MRP2000 UHF-VHF talk-through mode on. By switching the EXO function to ON the received SELCALL programmed in the associated CH No will turn the UHF VHF function on. Example Figure 5 shows the received SELCALL, 11111 will activate UHF VHF talk through as EXO = ON.

Connection and Installation

Remote heads. The two remote heads need to be connected to the separation cables as shown in fig 6 below, and the rear plates refitted.

Figure 6

DC supply. The supplied DC cable needs to be installed in the vehicle and connected between the MRP2000 and a fuse protected (20AMP rated fuse recommended) 13.8v DC supply. Note: Also see caution section for more information.

Antennas. Fit suitable VHF and UHF antennas to the vehicle. For optimum performance of the radios allow as much separation between antennas as possible. The distance between antennas and MRP2000 should be no less than 1 metre. Close proximity of antennas may give rise to reception problems during talkthrough operation. Consideration should also be given to potential problems which may be caused by siting antennas close to light-bars, etc. Connect antenna cables to the antenna ports.

Page 7

Port 1 In the standard configuration of the MRP2000 this port is the VHF antenna socket. Port 2 In the standard configuration of the MRP2000 this port is the UHF antenna socket. EXTERNAL I/O (Configured at manufacture) Input The MRP2000 has one input which could be connected to a data system if required. This facility could be used for informing a hand portable that a message has arrived on the data terminal. There are two options for this function which involves the modification of links on the repeater interface card. Output The MRP2000 has three outputs which may be connected to a data system if required. This first output facility could be used to send an emergency message on the data system if an emergency SELCALL was received from a UHF hand portable. The next two outputs indicate the status of the repeater whether in talk-through mode, e.g. UHF-UHF; VHF-UHF. These connections are available on the trailing lead which terminates in a 6 pin Molex socket. See Figure 7 for connection details. Option 1 : Option 2 : SELCALL message sent every time a data message is received SELCALL message sent only if MRP2000 is in talkthrough mode.
