Ajman, t he smallest of t he seven emirat es of t he Unit ed Arab Emirat es, is locat ed 25 km from Dubai Int ernat ional Airport and
next t o Sharjah, t he Cult ural Capit al of t he Arab World. Filled wit h hist orical landmarks left unt ouched by concret e jungles,
Ajman is a model of cult ure and t radit ion. Exist ing in a t ime bet ween West ern & Arabian Cult ures, Ajman is an archet ype of t he

Ajman Museum
This fascinat ing museum was opened in 1981 in a lovely
old eight eent h cent ury fort which served as t he Rulers
palace and office unt il 1970, when it became t he main
police st at ion. Locat ed in t he t own cent re, t he museum
houses an int erest ing collect ion of archaeological art efact s,
manuscript s, old weapons and reconst ruct ions of t radit ional
life.
Dhow Yard
The boat building yard on t he nort h side of t he Creek is just
a few kilomet res from t he cit y cent re. This is one of t he most
act ive dhow-building yards in t he count ry.
Mowaihat
The archaeological sit e of Mowaihat is locat ed on t he
out skirt s of Ajman. In 1986, while laying a new sewerage
pipe, workers from t he Municipalit y discovered a circular
Umm al-Nar-t ype t omb (2500 BC t o 2000 BC), c. 8.25m
in diamet er. A rescue excavat ion was conduct ed which
recovered numerous examples of soft -st one and paint ed
Umm al-Nar ceramic vessels, as well as over 3000 beads,
t wo st amp seals, a number of copper implement s, and t he
skelet al remains of several dozen individuals. At t he t ime
of it s discovery, t he Mowaihat t omb represent ed t he first
indicat ion of Umm al-Nar period occupat ion in t he Nort hern
Emirat es. Subsequent work has now ident ified major sit es
of t his period on t he Gulf coast at Al Sufouh, Tell Abraq and
Shimal. The mat erial from Mowaihat forms t he bulk of t he
archaeological finds on display in t he Ajman Museum.

New Ajman is the name given to the area being developed outside of the current Ajman city, located by the Emirates Road. The development right
at the beginning of New Ajman is called the Eye of Ajman, a brand new city located directly on the Emirates Road.
Today, Ajman is the third largest property market in UAE, next to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, accounting for a total of 10 percent of all projects that
are currently happening in the entire UAE. The emirate is attracting commercial, retail and hospitality investment, as well as improving its general
infrastructure and boasting major banks and retailers. By the third quarter of 2007 developers had announced projects with total investments of
around 21.8 billion dollars. The emirate has invested 580 million dirhams in infrastructure projects like construction of bridges, lights, roads and
development of government complexes. Among the infrastructure projects, the most signifcant are the 800 million dirhams sewerage system & the
agreement to build the frst coal-fred power plant in UAE, worth 2 billion dollars.
Ajman properties witnessed a 22% return on investment in just one month right after the announcement of the new Ajman International Airport in
December 2007. The new Ajman International Airport will greet approximately 2 million passengers, handling over 400,000 tonnes of air cargo, a
year after it opens in 2011. Ajman has overshadowed other UAE emirates when it comes to drawing foreign investments to UAE. According to the
latest statistics by the Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, foreigners in Ajman own 33 percent of development projects in the booming city,
as against 11 percent in other emirates, thereby elevating Ajmans annual investment growth rate to an average of 6.7 per cent, attracting 15 billion
dollars investment in the real estate sector during the previous year.
