Are You at a High Risk for Divorce?

There are many factors that have shown a high risk for divorce. These factors include how old you were when you married, if your parents were divorced and other factors. Im sure we all know people who married young, had divorced parents and have had a healthy and happy marriage for many years now too. So, while the factors can be alarming, they are not a death sentence to your marriage if you happen to fall into the ones that contribute to a high risk of divorce. High Risk of Divorce Causes Emotional immaturity and lack of relationship skills are the two biggest problems that will put your marriage at a high risk for divorce. Luckily, those problems can be overcome if you get help for them. Other problems such as intimacy issues and fear of abandonment are also problems that will put your marriage at a high risk for divorce. Luckily there is also hope for those, but can sometimes require intensive counseling for those suffering from intimacy or abandonment issues. Finally, active addictions will also put your marriage at a high risk for divorce. Every other problem that couples have will typically fall under one of the above issues. What happens is that couples fight the symptoms of those problems instead of addressing the core problem. For example, someone with intimacy issues may distance themselves whenever they feel as if they are getting too close to their partner. The distance hurts the partner that craves deeper levels of connection and the fighting that it causes helps to keep the distance away instead of facing the intimacy issue and learning how to overcome it. High Risk for Divorce Statistics Here are some interesting statistics that show the rate of marriages since 2001. As you will see there are many more marriages, despite a lower population in 2001 compared to 2010. Many marriages have fallen apart due to the above mentioned issues and the symptoms of those issues. Many other people are also deciding not to marry because of the high risk for divorce.
