Aim:
Study of Guest Rooms and its Functions from Housekeeping point of view.

Objective:
To learn the housekeeping department assignment for the linen room. To learn the imptortance of the linen room. To learn the cleanin procedure of the linen. To learn the linen requirement for the guest rooms. To learn the linen requirement for the other department. To learn the linen requirement for the staff. To learn the effective distribution system for linen. To learn the linen room inventory control.

Limitations:
The study is limited to Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai. The study is limited due to time and money constraint.

Introduction
Guest Rooms:
Guest Room is any distinguishable space within a structure. Usually, a room is separated from other spaces or passageways by interior walls; moreover, it is separated from outdoor areas by an exterior wall, sometimes with a door. A hotel room is referred to perishable commodity. It is a home away from home for the guest. Housekeeping department holds a major contribution in the sale of the room as this department is responsible for the cleaning and re-creating a fresh room for the next guest. Types of rooms are:
Adjacent rooms Adjoining rooms Cabana Connecting rooms Double rooms Executive rooms

Methodology
Methodology is way to systematically solve the research problem. It may be understood as a science of studying how research is done scientifically. It includes the various steps that are generally adopted by a researcher in studying his research problem along with the logic behind them. Taylor and Bogdan (1984) say that no method is equally suited for all purpose and that the choice of research methods should be determined by the research interest, the circumstances of the setting or people to be studied and practical. The methods applied to complete the study are: Industrial Training in housekeeping department for 2 months. Area selection Sample selection

1. Industrial Training in housekeeping department for 2 months: During the training, the experience of guest rooms cleaning and and other functions by the housekeeping department were learnt. 2. Area selection: The area was selected by the researcher for study was limited to the Mumbai city. 3. Sample selection: The hotel, from Mumbai city was selected belonging to 5 star category. Selected hotel: Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Conclusion
The purpose of hotel is to provide accommodation to travelers, as it is said hotel is home away from home. Housekeeping department ensures that the guest feels that the guest room is as similar as their home. The housekeeping department makes room ambience and the room environment fresh and refreshing for every new guest welcomed in hotel. It is the full effort of the housekeeping staff which makes the room saleable again and again to every new guest. As the guest room generates over 50 % revenue for the hotel, housekeeping staff needs to be on toes to keep the standard of the room up to the mark. Cleaning and maintaining guestrooms to standard that will satisfy guests is not a simple matter. How to clean when to clean all must be taken into consideration by the executive housekeeper. And, all of these factors must be weighed against what levels of service guest demand and how to meet these demands while staying on budget and keeping employees satisfied. Managing this aspect of the housekeeping department properly requires the diverse skills such as: Making room assignments Training staff in how to enter guest rooms Standardizing daily cleaning tasks Stocking carts correctly Reporting malfunctions, damage or needed repairs Making productive inspection Planning night service Scheduling general cleaning

All together study of guest rooms and its functions through housekeeping point of view proves that this department is essential for the proper functioning of the hotel as it deals with the 50% revenue generation function i.e. guest rooms.
