I have to edit purchasing document "PO Output for communication", but I first have to identify if it's using XML Publisher Report or Oracle Reports. How do I check which one the customer is using ? Any help is very welcome. Rodrigo

Hi, I assume that you can 'easily' find the conc.program (name "PO Output for communication" or something like that) ... Then you look at the field 'Output'...(at the concurrent program window) If it is XML ... then the report is an XML report, otherwise it should be Oracle Reports... Hope it helps, Sim

Hi Rodrigo, it is neither XML Publisher nor Oracle (Developer 6i) report. Its PDF output format is generated using a Java Concurrent program (executable is POXPOPDF, execution file name is "PoGenerateDocumentCP") Thanks

For PO's to be generated via xml publisher, the following field needs to be set to PDF. If it is not PDF, you are not using XML Publisher. Purchasing > setup > Organizations > Purchasing options > control tab > PO Output format. Hope this answers your question Sandeep Gandhi Independent Consultant 513-325-9026

Re: How to check if 'PO Output for communication' is using XLM or OracleReports : 7/08/2009 02:13 AM Rodrigo Santos Hi Rodrigo,

I have customized the PO Layout in our system, so if you need some advises, just tell me here. The PO Output for communication uses XSL-FO templates in BI Publisher. There are three of them Standard PO: Template = Standard Purchase Order Stylesheet Blanket Release: Template = Blanket Release Stylesheet Blanket Agreement: Template = Blanket Agreement Stylesheet Another one is template "Contract Agreement Stylesheet", which I have no experience with.

I have created copies of the original documents, and then in the setup of PO I have linked the PO Print to my custom templates. As I said, just tell what you want to do and I will share my experience. best regards, David.

Re: How to check if 'PO Output for communication' is using XLM or OracleReports : 7/08/2009 06:06 AM David Weber Everybody Thanks for your answers. I really appreciated that.

I checked Purchasing > setup > Organizations > Purchasing options > control tab > PO Output format. The value there is set to "Text". So I assume it's not using XML Publisher, since the value is not PDF, as Sandeep Gandhi wrote. It's really neither XML Publisher nor Oracle Report. It's a Java Concurrent program. David My concurrent program executable is POXPOPDF, and its values are : Execution Method : Java Concurrent Program Execution File Name : PoGenerateDocumentCP Execution File Path : oracle.apps.po.communicate This concurrent is creating a document that is sent by email to the user. I have to customize this document. Is this the same kind of configuration you had when you customized the PO Layout ? If the answer is yes and I have to edit XSL-FO templates in BI Publisher, please let me know how do I do it. I understand tha BI Publisher and XML Publisher are the same tool. The BI Publisher is the stand alone version and XML Publisher is the name inside EBS. I'm not very familiar with BI Publisher. I took a look at XML Publisher Administrator responsibility and I realized how I could edit the templates. Can I edit the 'PO Output for communication' template at 'XML Publisher Administrator' ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Rodrigo Santos Hi, ok here is what I did to customize the PO layout: 1. Create new templates in BI Publisher: 1.1 Download the original templates: In my developments I have used the original templates from Oracle as a start point. So you should get them first: Logon with respo XML Publisher Administrator and navigate to "Templates" > search for Template with name "Standard Purchase Order Stylesheet" and click on it in the search result. Click on the Download link to download the .xls file to your local disk. You can repeat that for all the other templates that I mentioned earlier, depending on which layout you want to change. I would not recommend to change the original files. In case of trouble you can always go back to the origin version of Oracle. 1.2 Now create your own templates: In XML Publisher Administrator you can create a new template. As template name use a meaningful name with a prefix like "XX" or something that you typically use for your own developments. The rest of the fields in the template definition should be equal to the standard templates (so just copy & paste the values from there). And you can upload the original .xsl file for the beginning. 2. Tell Purchasing to use your own XML Publisher templates: login with a PO Administrator/Superuser responsibility: 2.1 (in Purchasing) > Setup > Organizations > Purchasing Options > tab Control > set "PO Output Format" = PDF 2.2 (in Purchasing) > Setup > Purchasing > Document Types > find Document Type "Purchase Order - Standard" > set Document Type Layout = "XX Purchase Order Stylesheet" (put the name of your custom template here!) repeat step 2.2 for the other Document Types, like Blanket Agreements and Blanket Releases if needed. 3. Test: Now try the PO Output for communication. If everything worked well, you should see a PO in PDF format with the same layout as before. Now it's time to start customizing the layout. 4. Customize layout: You have to edit the XSL templates. You need some XSL-FO knowledge, but with some little programming experience you'll get the concept pretty easily. Actually the XSL-FO offers a lot of possibilities to model your layout. BUT: Changing the XSL template allows you to change your "LAYOUT" only, not the data part of the report. Of course you can put hardcoded text and calculations within your XSL, but dramatic changes of the data portion are not really possible with this. If you want to do this, then search on Metalink, there exists a document that explains how to customize the data for the PO print. I don't have the Note by hand right now... Btw. XML Publisher is the former name of the product, Oracle has renamed it to BI Publisher. In EBS it is still often referenced as "XML Publisher". You can see the two names as synonyms. You have to pay more attention to the version of BI Publisher, the one that is

integrated in EBS is different to what you can have as standalone versions. best regards, David.

Re: How to check if 'PO Output for communication' is using XLM or OracleReports : 7/08/2009 11:11 AM Rodrigo Santos

Unfortunately the I think the customer is using Oracle Reports. Here are the reasons : As I mentioned before, I took a look at

Setup > Organizations > Purchasing Options > tab Control > set "PO Output Format" = 'TEXT'

Besides, the version of the customer is 11.5.10.2, and checking (in Purchasing) > Setup > Purchasing > Document Types > find Document Type "Purchase Order - Standard" > there's no 'Document Type Layout' option I have the PDF that is being created today and being sent by email. I checked the XSL-FO templates -Standard Purchase Order Stylesheet -Blanket Release Stylesheet -Blanket Agreement Stylesheet an none of them reflect the layout I got from the customer. The customer already has an edit version of 'PO Output for communication' , I have to edit this one. So I think this concurrent is somehow using Oracle Reports. I'm looking for the name of the report to check if the layout is the same one I got from the customer.

Re: How to check if 'PO Output for communication' is using XLM or OracleReports : 25/08/2009 06:56 AM David Weber Hi David,

I see that you have done some customization of PO Documents. I am working on a requirement which involves adding extra information on the document through SQL query and by the look of it, some part of the query is pretty complex like check for DFFs and extract the information in a particular format and align the same on the document. Do you think this level of customization is possible for the PO Document? Please let me know. I'd appreciate any kind of response from you. Regards

Re: How to check if 'PO Output for communication' is using XLM or OracleReports : 25/08/2009 08:34 AM user3560355 Hi,

good question. Actually we are thinking about doing the same. We would like to include some other, custom information that is currently not present in the XML. Most probably we will go for a complete new version of the PO print, means we'll develop our own query (XML data definition) and XSL-FO template, or maybe RTF template. Of course you can try to copy some logic from the original program version to have a basis to start with. I found Metalink Note 429159.1 and Note 387670.1, maybe these are a good start for you. (btw. I found note 562957.1 which helps you to answer your original question) So in your case first I would check if your data appears already in the XML data. If yes, then simple use those fields in the XSL template. Or maybe you can put just fixed text or simple calculations / conditions in the XSL-FO template? If this does not help to achieve what you need, then it seems you have no other chance than to create a fully customized version. If business asks and pays for it, then that's the way to go. By the way, I see there is an enhancement request open (6021904) to allow adding custom messages to the PO print without modifying the standard code. Actually you can also try to convince Oracle to implement this request. If so, send me a message please Kind Regards, David.
