A microblogging tool. Allows users to send and receive short messages within an online community. Short posts or responses on Twitter. Only 140 characters in length. Following another user means that all their tweets will appear in your feed. Twitter users who follow your updates. To stop seeing someone elses tweets. The act of blocking a particular user name from following your tweets. You block someone by clicking on their profile and choosing Block on the right sidebar. You are specifying that it is a retweet and putting in the full username so others on your list can choose to follow them if they like it. To respond to somebody elses tweet. Popular topics are referred to as trending topics and are sometimes accompanied by hashtags, such as #london2012 #davidwilletts. Hashtags are also used as part of backchannel communication around an event, be it a conference, a TV programme or a global event. An event audience can share comments, questions and links with each other while continuing to follow the formal presentation. These are private messages that you can send to other Twitter users. Keep in mind that you cannot send Direct Messages to people that are not following you, even if you are following them.

Click on sign up now.

Enter your details. For professional accounts, it is recommended that you use you given name(s) as your username. Once all your information has been entered, click on create my account.

On the settings page, customize your twitter account. Click Save.
