Message from the General Secretary

A very warm welcome to our 76th Ard Fheis, our rst as a party of Government for 16 years. Another new departure is the use of the Convention Centre Dublin for this event. Please familiarise yourself with this excellent venue. The hard work and support of Fine Gael members across the country ensured the Partys best ever-General Election result in 2011. The party now has 74 TDs and 20 Senators as part of a Fine GaelLabour Party Coalition Government that includes ten Fine Gael Cabinet Ministers and nine Ministers of State. Your continued support will allow the Government to implement its ambitious programme to restore Irelands economy and our international standing. The Partys next major task is to ensure the ratication by the people of the European Stability Treaty. This will conrm Irelands commitment to responsible budgeting and, in doing so, ensure that the reckless economic mismanagement that drove our country to the brink of bankruptcy will not be repeated by any future Government. We will also turn our attention to the European and Local Elections of 2014 when we must strengthen our position as the leading Irish party of Europe and the driving force of local government. Elsewhere in the Clr you will see details of the Partys nancial accounts for the year 2009 and 2010. Given the cyclical nature of political activity, and in particular election campaigns, 2010 can be best characterised as a year when the Party needed to recover from the expensive years of 2007 (General Election) and 2009 (Local and European Elections). Financially, 2010 was also a year when not only did we curb expenditure and reduce our decit, but also a year when we put in place a borrowing facility to meet the Partys need in relation to the General Election of 2011. Newer members of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party are proled elsewhere in the Clr. On your behalf, I thank the members of the Ard Fheis Steering Committee and all those who have helped plan this great gathering. I hope you enjoy the weekend and look forward to meeting you.

Message from An Taoiseach and Leader of Fine Gael, Enda Kenny TD

Welcome to the 76th Fine Gael Ard Fheis.
This great gathering of our Party provides Fine Gael with the opportunity to reect on its work in Government, and more importantly, to help to shape our future. A wide range of motions have been submitted by the Party organisation for debate. I encourage to you take an active part in these debates, and also to enjoy the social aspect of our Ard Fheis. Throughout the past year, Fine Gael, in government with our Labour Party partners, has worked unyieldingly to tackle the problems we inherited so that economic recovery can be achieved. And from my travels at home and abroad, I know that this work is bearing fruit. Jobs are being created and our international image is substantially improved. The Irish people will shortly be asked to ratify the European Stability Treaty. It is in our interest to approve the Treaty - doing so will build on the steady progress Ireland has made in the past year. John Bruton
MEATH EAST
John Bruton is President of IFSC Ireland, former Taoiseach and former Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission to the US. John was Taoiseach from 1994-1997. Prior to his election as Taoiseach he served in Cabinet as Minister for Finance, Minister for Industry and Energy and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism. While Taoiseach, John presided over a successful Irish EU Presidency in 1996 and helped nalise the Stability and Growth Pact, which governs the management of the Single European Currency. From 1999, until his appointment as Ambassador, he was one of 10 Vice-Presidents of the European Peoples Party. Before being appointed Ambassador to the United States, John served as a leading member of the Convention that drafted the proposed European Constitution, signed in Rome in October, 2004. He graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and politics in 1968 before studying to become a barrister.

Gerry OConnell
TIPPERARY NORTH
A 35 year-old solicitor from Killenaule, Co Tipperary, Gerry OConnell was rst elected a Vice-President of the Party in 2004 and has been re-elected to that position at each subsequent Ard Fheis. He is the Chairperson of the Executive Council sub-committee on the Fine Gael Constitution and Rules. Gerry is a former President of Young Fine Gael and served the Party as a Constituency Director of Elections in the 2007 and 2011 General Elections, the 2009 Local and European Elections, and the 2011 Presidential Election. Gerry is also the Secretary of the Collins 22 Society, has compiled various presentations on Fine Gael history, and has acted as a motivational speaker for the Party at General Election rallies, Michael Collins rallies and Ard Fheiseanna.

Brendan Heneghan DUBLIN SOUTH EAST
Brendan Heneghan is a member of Terenure Branch, Dublin South East, and an outgoing Executive Council member for Dublin. He is also a member of Disciplinary Committee and chairs the Dublin North West Review Group. Brendan has acted on a number of occasions as Director of Elections, most recently in Dublin South Central for the 2011 General Election. He is also active in day-to-day activities such as canvassing and leaet drops for a number of representatives. The key focus of the new Executive will be the 2014 Local Elections. Brendan has an extensive knowledge of the entire country. He believes this would assist the new Executive greatly in planning a successful 2014 campaign, following which Fine Gael will remain by far the largest party in local government. Brendan is a solicitor by profession, acting as a consultant to one of the countrys biggest law rms.

John Kennedy DUBLIN SOUTH

I rst became active in the organisation when I joined UCD Young Fine Gael. I later served on the YFG National Executive as Dublin Organiser from 2003-07, which included setting up new branches across Dublin and encouraging YFG canvassing in the capital. I am currently the Embassy Liaison Ocer on the Young Fine Gael International Committee. I was elected Vice-Chair of Dublin South in 2005, and have also served as Constituency Secretary and previously on the Dublin South General Election Strategy Committee. I have campaigned for a signicant number of Fine Gael politicians, and I have also competed myself as an Oireachtas candidate. Enda Kenny TD and Young Fine Gael endorsed me for the NUI Panel of the Seanad in 2007. I ran again in 2011. I also put my name forward for the Dublin South General Election Selection Convention in 2010, ultimately won respectively by Olivia Mitchell TD and Alan Shatter TD. I was placed on the Fine Gael MEP Replacement List for the Dublin Euro Constituency in 2009. Aside from politics, I played in international chess tournaments whilst at school and also acquired a Computer Science degree in university. I am currently employed as a software engineer. I am a member of the RDS, European Movement Ireland and the Institute of International and European Aairs. I have a particular liking for political autobiographies and memoirs; The Alan Clark Diaries would be my favourite, with a strong interest also in cinema. The Duellists is my favourite lm.

Brian Murphy DUBLIN NORTH

Brian believes the Party needs to build on its successes in the last Local and General Elections. The next set of elections will be the rst we have contested from within Government in seventeen years, and will also be fought on new electoral boundaries. There is a strong need for a close relationship between the Executive Council and the individual Dublin constituencies as we prepare for these elections to ensure Fine Gael achieves the best possible result. There is also a need to enhance further the relationship between the Party in Government and the organisation generally. Brian believes his wide experience in the Party over 25 years, from President of Young Fine Gael in 1986-1988 to serving for the last three years as Chairperson of the Executive Council, would enable him to contribute signicantly to this task and to being a strong voice for the Dublin membership on the Executive. Brian has been an active member of the Dublin North constituency for over 25 years, including serving as Chairperson, 1999-2003. He served as Director of Elections in Dublin North East in 2007 when Fine Gael won back the seat lost in 2002, and in Dublin North in 2011, where the Party took two seats for the rst time in nearly 30 years.

Michael Van Turnhout DUBLIN SOUTH

I am an experienced manager in the private sector and a longstanding, passionate member of Fine Gael. I have worked my way up through all levels of the Party and have a proven track record of delivering results. I am looking for re-election to the Executive Council to help ensure a two-term Government.

Barry Walsh DUBLIN NORTH CENTRAL

Barry Walsh (27) was President of Young Fine Gael, 2007-10. He has been a member of Fine Gael since he joined in 2001 at age 16. Since then, he has served in a range of positions at branch, constituency and national level. He previously served as Vice President of YFG (2006-07), Director of Policy (200405) and was a member of the YFG National Executive for six years. Barry is a member of the Dublin North Central constituency, where he was Constituency Organiser from 2008 until the 2011 General Election. His three years as President of YFG marked a period of unprecedented renewal and growth for the organisation with membership reaching a high not seen since the 1980s. During his term he was a vocal advocate for the rights of grassroots members, leading successful YFG campaigns to retain the one member one vote system and to secure a third seat for YFG on the Fine Gael Executive Council. The membership of YFG elected Barry as their President on two successive occasions (2007 and 2009), making him the longest serving leader of the organisation since it was founded in 1978. Barry is originally from Mitchelstown, Co. Cork and has lived in Clontarf, Dublin since 2006.

I am a married father of one from South Kilkenny. For the past 20 years I have worked as an electronics and software engineer for an indigenous Irish company supplying equipment to the world automotive industry. I have been chairperson of SERCHAM (South East Chambers of Commerce), co-author of the SEA 2020 Plan and co-sponsor of the University of the South East application. I have been assistant campaign manager for Deputy John Paul Phelan in European and National Elections. I am Secretary of the Kilmacow Branch, Secretary of the Piltown District and Policy Ocer of the Carlow/Kilkenny Constituency. I have been involved at strategy level for Local, National and European Elections at both district and constituency level. It is my ambition to be part of the national strategy committee for the 2016 General Election. I believe my passion for politics and entrepreneurial experience will be an asset.

Ellen Cogavin MEATH EAST

I am an active member of the Executive Council, representing Ireland East. I am seeking reelection for a second term and am privileged to serve Fine Gael at all levels. I am a successful and enthusiastic Assistant Director of Nursing with the HSE, married to Stephen, with two daughters. In addition to nursing and midwifery qualications, I am both a UCD & National Collage of Industrial Relations graduate. I am deeply involved with my community, where I am: An active member of Meath VEC and member of the Boards of Management of three local schools and President of Good Sheppard Conference of the St Vincent de Paul in Dunboyne/Clonee. Chairperson of a committee that secured 1.2 million for a community childcare facility in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. President McAleese ocially opened rst Steps Community Childcare in January, 2010. John Hayes WEXFORD

John is from the Fethard-on-Sea are in the New Ross District of Co Wexford. A life-long active member of Fine Gael, having held numerous positions at Branch, District and Constituency level, and a member of the Leinster European Election Committee for a number of years. Constituency Director of Elections for 14 years, during which time a lot of experience was gained in tallying, opinion polling and electioneering. He contested the Local Elections for Fine Gael in 1985. He has been deeply involved in sporting and community activities over the years and and is current Chairperson of the Cockleshell Art Centre, Duncannon Fort. He has held membership of the Civil Defence, FCA, IFA, GAA and Macra na Feirme. Membership of Executive Council for the past six years, during which time the Partys Dil representation increased from 31 to 76 seats is something more than coincidence. He earnestly seeks your vote.

Committed member of Fine Gael since 1989, current Vicechairperson of Clare Constituency. Member of the Executive Council since 2004. Held the position of Vice-chairperson, 2004-2009. Active across a range of constituencies in devising strategy and preparation for General Election, 2011. Daughter of Donal Carey, former Minister of State and sister of Joe Carey TD. Director of Elections, European and Local Elections, Dublin Central, 2004. Member of Dublin Central Fine Gael,1997-2007, holding all levels of ocer positions. John Delamere LONGFORD/WESTMEATH

John has been a member of Executive Council since 1996. During this period, he was twice elected unanimously as Chairperson, in 2004 and 2006. He has been a proactive participant in all of the Executives activities over the years, serving at various times on Committees such as Disciplinary, Constitution and Rules and Aliations. He also chaired the group which brought forward proposals on the election of the Party Leader, which resulted in councillors and members having a vote. At constituency level, John continues to be involved in a very participative way. He is currently Joint Treasurer of Longford/Westmeath and has been varyingly Organiser, Chairperson and Secretary. He acts as co-ordinator for the annual National Superdraw, which has for many years been a major source of success within the constituency. He was Director of Elections for each of the last three General and Local Elections. John believes the 2011 General Election was the culmination of a huge collective rebuilding exercise by the Party, going back to 2002. He is proud to have played his part in that process through his work on the Executive. Now, as we enter a crucial phase of our period in Government, it is vital that the Executive has members with the necessary organisational experience to steer the Party towards a successful 2014 Local Election campaign and to ultimately drive Fine Gael to the achievement of a second term in government in 2016.

Lorraine Munnelly MAYO

Lorraine was a member of the Strategy Committee responsible for the Partys success in obtaining four out of ve seats in the Mayo Constituency at the 2011 General Election. She has represented the North West on the Executive Council since 2004, and has served as a member of the Aliation Appeals Committee, in addition to the 2012 Ard Fheis Committee. Lorraine is the brother of Jarlath, a member of Mayo County Council, and daughter of Vincent, a former member of the authority. She was educated at the University of Limerick and Stella Maris Secondary School, Ballycastle, Co Mayo.

Austin Tuy SLIGO/NORTH LEITRIM

Native of Enniscrone, Co Sligo. Educated at Convent of Jesus and Mary, Enniscrone, National Botanic Gardens and University College Dublin. Owns and manages Tuy Landscaping, operating in Sligo, Mayo and Dublin. Involved in Fine Gael in many positions over 30 years. Presently Constituency Secretary to Sligo/North Leitrim, and Chairperson, Dromore District Executive. Previously Constituency Secretary in Dublin Central for six years during 80-90s.

Mary Danagher LIMERICK
Mary is Chair of the Deel District in Limerick and a former Member of the Executive Council. She has held various ocerships within the Party over many years. First elected to the Executive in 2004, and again in 2007, Mary topped the poll on both occasions. During that time she rose to the challenge of working as part of the Fine Gael team to rebuild the Party. She served on various sub-committees of the Executive, including those of Ard Fheis, Constitution & Rules, and Aliations. She was also a member of the Seanad Selection Committee. The most challenging period for Mary on the Executive was when she chaired the Organisation sub-committee, which successfully led the selection of candidates, many of whom are Oireachtas members today. She did not seek election to the last Executive as she cared for her late mother at home. Mary has a deep knowledge of every Munster constituency, and on the basis of her proven record of commitment, ability and loyalty to the Fine Gael Party, and its Leadership, she is seeking your earnest support. Mary is a self-employed businesswoman, managing her own training company at Raheen Business Park, Limerick.

Maurice Fitzgerald TIPPERARY NORTH

I am standing for re-election to the Executive Council because I believe we are facing into the most important electoral cycle in our history. We have the opportunity to be re-elected to Government for the rst time ever. To achieve that, we need to be smart about what we do, keep ourselves focused, organised, and approach our challenges with the level of ambition and condence that we have gained from our recent history. Things never just happen we made them happen for ourselves this time last year, and I want to use the experience I gained during that time on the Executive Council to make sure we make things happen again. I am currently working in the wholesale telecom sector, based in Plassey Technology Park in Limerick. I live in Cappawhite, Co Tipperary. I am the eldest in the family, with three younger brothers. My interests include current aairs (obviously), but also most types of sport, especially swimming, and I have a keen interest in farming having grown up on a mixed dairy and beef farm. I ask you for your number one this weekend, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported/helped and advised me during my time in Fine Gael so far. FG Constituency Organiser (Cork North West ) and Chair of Ballincollig Branch. Graduated from UCC with a BComm Hons (Economics, International Political Systems and German), in 2001. Financial Review of the Fine Gael Revenue Accounts for 2010

The cyclical nature of political activity, and in particularly political elections, is reected in the Partys accounts for 2010. With a General Election around the corner, and a Presidential Election scheduled for the Autumn of 2011, the Party used 2010 as a year in which to stabilise nances and to put funds in place for the expensive election year of 2011. The total income of the Party reduced in the period from 5.809m to 5.716m, a reduction of 93k. National Oce overheads reduced by approximately 700k due mainly to the absence of elections and an Ard Fheis in 2010. Other, non-headquarters expenses, reduced by 1.14m due to the absence of any campaign or election in 2010. The operating surplus for the year was 1.28m, due mainly to the retention of self-generated funds of 881,717. Our National Draw remains the Partys biggest source of self-generated funds for both the Party nationally and locally, with signicant funding year-on-year rebated to constituencies. As a result of preparation for the General Election, the Partys net cash position increased from a minus of 918,280 to a net positive balance of 359,453. The Trustees obtained a valuation of the Partys premises at 51 Upper Mount Street, Dublin 2 from DTZ Sherry Fitzgerald in February 2011, and have recognised a reduction in the conveyancing value of the property of 1.44m to 2m. The opening decit of 1,339,140 was reduced to 107,014 at the end of 2010. Before the end of 2010 the Trustees put in place a borrowing facility to meet the Partys need in relation to the General Election of 2011. In total, a borrowing facility of 3m was sourced, but only 1.5m was drawn down. The net debt at the end of 2011 was 1.235m with cash in bank at 0.715m. The Partys nances will continue to reect the cyclical nature of political activity as we target 2012 and 2013 as debt reduction years as we prepare for the Local and European Elections in 2014.

FINE GAEL CONSTITUTION & RULES AND ORGANISATION AMENDMENT 1 Conrmation of alteration to Constitution & Rules pursuant to rule 67(c) That the amendment to Rules 39(e) and 44A (xxvi) respectively, adopted by the Executive Council on 19th April 2010, the terms of which are set out below is hereby conrmed; 1. That Rule 39(e) be deleted, and replace by the words: Only those members who are eligible to vote in accordance with Rules 24(i) and 35(ii)(a) shall be eligible to seek election as a member of Executive Council. 2. That the words Without prejudice to the operation of Rule 44A(xxvi) hereunder be deleted from Rules 15(vii) and 24. Executive Council AMENDMENT 2 County Executives That a new Rule 26A be inserted as follows; Where a Dail Constituency comprises more than one county, separate County Executives may be established in the dierent counties (or parts of counties) in that constituency. The provisions of rule 22 shall apply to the functioning of such County Executive, as if reference to District Executive therein were references to County Executive and as if reference to District were a reference to the county or part thereof. If as a result of a re-organisation of constituencies, the counties or parts of counties cease to be associated in the one constituency, all matters concerned with an existing County Executive shall be determined by that County Executive with the agreement of Executive Council (or in case the matter relates to nancial issues with the agreement of Executive Council and of the Trustees). Colm is the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Health. Colm was a member of Cork County Council from 1995 to 2007 and was Lord Mayor of Cork in 2003. He was a member of the European Parliament for the Ireland South Constituency between 2007 and 2009, and served on various EP committees. Colm is a native of Dripsey and was educated in De La Salle College, Macroom and University College Cork, before qualifying as a solicitor in 1982.

Rays career in politics began when he was elected to Trim Town Council in 2004, topping the poll. In 2009 he again topped the Town Council poll and also topped the Trim Area County Council poll with the highest percentage vote by an elected County Councillor in all of Meath. Jerry was born and raised in Bishopstown, Cork. He was elected to Seanad ireann in 2007 and to Dil ireann in 2011. A former secondary school teacher, Jerry was also Director of Adult Education in Ballincollig Community School. A former Chairperson of Bishopstown GAA Club, Jerry now acts as PRO for his native club. After the 2007 election, Jerry wrote a book called Candidate, a diary of an election candidate. Jerry also writes a weekly column for the Evening Echo newspaper.

Ciarn was rst elected to Galway County Council in June 2004. Following the 2007 General Election, Ciarn was nominated to Seanad ireann. He was elected to the Dil in 2011. He is currently Minister for Training and Skills at the Department of Education and Skills. Ciarn has a strong interest in rural planning and has brought about many improvements to his own constituency. He is married to Niamh and they have one son. He also cycles 600 miles for the Irish Pilgrimage Trust every two years. Ciarn was also chosen as one of Galways People of the Year in 2002.

Michael was elected to Seanad ireann in 2011. He has been involved in public life for over 20 years. He lives on a farm in Newtownmanor on the Sligo/Leitrim border with his wife Elizabeth. They have ve sons. Michael was a candidate in the 2007 General Election and while he did not get elected, he managed to secure a very impressive 8000 votes. He was nominated the REHAB Leitrim Person of the Year in 2001 and has also been a member of the Leitrim Development Company and the County Development Board. Paul grew up in a political household as his father, Paul Snr., was also a Fine Gael TD. Martin Conway was elected to Seanad ireann on the Administrative Panel in April 2011. He was rst elected to Clare County Council in June, 2004, representing the North Clare area. Martin has received numerous prestigious awards, including the UCD Presidents award for Excellence, and the Junior Chamber of Ireland National Young Person of the Year Award.

Born in Dublin in 1952, amonn Coghlan was one of the worlds premier middle distance runners. He was World 5000 metres Champion in 1983, a three-time contestant in the Olympic Games, held the world indoor mile record for two decades, and is the only person to have run a sub-four minute mile at the age of 40 or older. He was nominated to Seanad ireann by An Taoiseach in 2011 and joined Fine Gael in February 2012. amon is married to Yvonne and they have four children.

He is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and Vice-Chair of the European Aairs Committee Paschal is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and was Sales and Marketing Director for a multinational company. Paschal lives in Phibsboro with his wife Justine and two children. He enjoys reading, theatre and visiting the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Alan Farrell TD

Alan rst became involved in politics at the age of 26 when he became one of the youngest Councillors to be elected to Fingal County Council, following a very short campaign in 2004. In 2007, Alan was elected Mayor of Fingal. He was re-elected in 2009, topping the poll in Malahide. Since being elected to the Dil, Alan was nominated by An Taoiseach to serve as Chairperson for the Fine Gael Committee on Public Expenditure and Reform. Alan is married to Emma and father to a baby son, Benjamin.

Peter was elected to the Dil in 2011. He is a native of Dundalk and has lived there all his life. Peter is the Gaelic football manager for the Louth GAA team. He has a long association with the team, having played senior football for Louth from 1980 until 1996, during which time he captained the team for ve years. He also played for Dundalk Football Club in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Peter is married to Ann and they have three grown-up children. Unsurprisingly for a sportsman, Peter is a big Russell Crowe fan and his favourite lm is Gladiator!

Brendan Grin TD

A native of Keel, Brendans career in politics began when he was elected to Kerry County Council in 2009. Before being elected to the Dil in 2011, Brendan worked in the pub trade and as a teacher. He is married to Risn and they have one dog, Paddy. Brendan is a big sports fan and plays GAA with Keel and soccer with Mainbank Soccer Club. One of his favourite movies is The Shawshank Redemption.

Noel Harrington TD

Noel was rst elected to Cork County Council in 1999. He was subsequently re-elected in 2004 and 2009. He also contested the Seanad election in 2007 before being elected to the Dil last year. Noel lives in Castletownbere with his wife Catherine and three children. One of Noels claims to fame is that he played half back on Bearas Cork County Senior Championship winning team in 1997! During winter months Noel can be found on the oche throwing darts for the local team. He also has a keen interest in local history.

Simon Harris TD

Simon was elected to Wicklow County Council in 2009 and received the highest percentage vote of any County Councillor in the country. He was also elected to Greystones Town Council. He was elected to the Dil in 2011 at the age of 24, and is the youngest member of the 31st Dil. Simon rst got involved in community and political life when he founded an Autism charity in County Wicklow called The Wicklow Triple A Alliance, to oer support and advice to families dealing with Autism. Simon was honoured to nominate Enda Kenny as Taoiseach, on his rst ever day in the Dil.

Imelda was rst elected to Sligo County Council in 2004 and was successfully re-elected in 2009. She was elected to Seanad ireann in 2011 and is currently the Seanad Spokesperson on Children. A self-employed businesswoman, she is also a member of the Border Regional Authority, North Western Professional Women, Committee on the National Womens Council of Ireland, as well as Chairperson of Sligo Disability. Imelda is married with two children. She has continally highlighted the need for the provision of Breastcheck, Radotherapy and other health screening in the North West.

Martin Heydon is a native of Kilcullen in County Kildare and a graduate of Kildalton Agricultural College. She was elected on the Council in 2004 and topped the poll in the 2009 Local Elections. She was elected Mayor of Monaghan in 2009 before being elected to the Dil last year. Heather is married with two children and lives on a farm in Aghabog, Co. Monaghan. Before politics, Heather had a successful career in nancial services and was the Manager of Cootehill Credit Union. Heather is an accomplished piano player and her favourite book is Showtime by Pat Leahy.

Senator Cit Keane

DUBLIN SOUTH WEST
Cit was rst elected to Dublin City Council in 1991 and re-elected at every election since, topping the poll in Rathfarnham in June 2009. She was elected to Seanad ireann in 2011. Cit has a diploma in Community Development as well as a B.A, M.A and Diploma in Montessori Education. She continues to work closely with Fine Gael Deputies and Councillors in South Dublin and was elected as Chairperson of the new Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre.

Derek Keating TD
DUBLIN MID WEST
Derek was rst elected to South Dublin County Council in 1999 and was reelected in 2004 and 2009. He was elected to the Dil in 2011. Derek has been a very active charity worker in his constituency for a number of years and is a Director of Pieta House, a centre of prevention for suicide, along with the Lucan Disability Action Group and Lucan Home Start. He also founded and co-ordinates the Lucan Chernobyl Childrens Appeal. Derek likes to play the guitar and loves the music of The Beatles and James Taylor. He is married to ine and they have two grown up daughters.

Sen Kyne TD
GALWAY WEST
Sen Kyne represented Connemara on Galway County Council from 2004 until he was elected to the Dil in 2011. He is a graduate of NUIG and UCD and worked as an agricultural consultant in Moycullen. He is one of seven children and enjoys reading history books and biographies.

Anthony Lawlor TD
KILDARE NORTH
Anthony was born and raised in Johnstown, Naas. He attended Newbridge College and is a graduate of Multyfarnham Agricultural College, UCD and NUI Maynooth. Anthony worked as a voluntary community worker overseas for two years. On his return to Ireland, he worked as a substitute teacher before working as a full-time farmer. Anthonys late mother Patsy was a Councillor, and after her death in 1998, Anthony was co-opted onto Kildare County Council. He was elected in 1999 and again in 2009. He was elected to the Dil in 2011.

Peter Mathews TD
DUBLIN SOUTH
Peter was rst elected to the Dil in 2011 having had a high prole career in banking. He was a leading critic of the last governments banking policy and the banks themselves. He studied Commerce in UCD. He qualied as a Chartered Accountant and worked for Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) and ICC. Peter is a former President of the Gonzaga Past Pupils Union and has also served on the Board of St. Marys N.S in Donnybrook. Peter is married to Susan and they live in Mount Merrion. He has four children. He is a big jazz fan!

Nicky McFadden TD

Before being elected to the Dil in 2011, Nicky was a member of Seanad ireann. Prior to that she had served on both Athlone Town Council and Westmeath County Council. She worked as a medical secretary for nine years before embarking on her political career. Nicky is a member of the governing body of Athlone IT. She was also a member of Westmeath VEC and is director of a number of local organisations including Athlone e-com and Athlone Community Task Force. Nicky has two children and says her political hero is John Hume. Her dream portfolio would be Social Protection.

Tony McLoughlin TD
SLIGO/NORTH LEITRIM
Tony was rst elected to Sligo County Council in the mid-1970s and has served as Mayor of Sligo on four occasions. He is married to Paula and father to three grown-up children. Tony hails from a strong Fine Gael family and his father Pat served on Sligo Borough Council. His Uncle Johnny was a TD for Fine Gael in Sligo/Leitrim from 1961 to 1977. Tony is an avid sports fan and apart from supporting his home team, Sligo Rovers, he also tries to get to see Manchester United play once a season.

Mary Mitchell OConnor TD

DUN LAOGHAIRE
Mary was elected to Dil ireann on her rst attempt in 2011. She had previously served on Dn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council after being rst elected on in June 2004 and re-elected in June 2009. Mary is a qualied teacher and before her election was Principal of the Harold School Glasthule, a busy 500 pupil mixed Catholic school. Mary is extremely supportive of local business and enterprise. She has consistently fought against increases in commercial rates in order to keep down the cost of doing business.

Senator Tony Mulcahy

Tony was rst elected to Clare County Council and Shannon Town Council in 1999. He was re-elected to both councils in 2004 and again in 2009. Tony was the Fine Gael Group Leader on both local authorities and was Mayor of Shannon on two occasions and Mayor of Clare in 2009. He was elected to Seanad ireann in 2011 and is the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Communication, Energy and Natural Resources. Tony lives in Shannon with his wife Carmel and four children and owns an Industrial Catering business.

Michelle Mulherin TD

Michelle Mulherins political career began in 1999, when she was elected to Ballina Town Council. She also served as a Mayo County Councillor from 2004 before being elected to the Dil in 2011. Michelle was educated locally in Ballina and is also a graduate of UCD and The Law Society of Ireland. Michelle is very involved with Amateur Dramatics in Ballina and has played a number of roles, most memorably Kate in Dancing at Lughnasa. She is also a massive Johnny Cash fan and has been known to give her own rendition of Walk the Line!

Senator Michael Mullins

GALWAY EAST
Michael has been involved with Fine Gael since 1977, and was rst elected to Galway County Council in 1985. He was re-elected at every election thereafter before being elected to Seanad ireann in 2011. Michael was the rst Councillor to be elected in Ireland in 2004, topping the poll in the Ballinasloe Electoral Area. He also served as a member of the Western Regional Authority. Michael has always prioritised the development of infrastructure in East Galway. A big sports fan, Michael enjoys soccer, GAA, rugby and horse-racing.

Dara Murphy TD

CORK NORTH CENTRAL

Having been rst elected to Cork County Council in 2004, Dara Murphy was then elected Lord Mayor of Cork in 2009. Since being elected to Dil ireann in 2011, Dara has been appointed Chairman of the Internal Fine Gael Committee on European Aairs, Foreign Aairs & Trade, as well as being a Member of the Dil Committee on Foreign Aairs & Trade. He is married with three daughters.

Eoghan Murphy TD
DUBLIN SOUTH EAST
In 2009, Eoghan was elected to Dublin City Council to represent the PembrokeRathmines ward. He was elected to the 31st Dil in 2011. Upon his election to Dublin City Council, he left his job as a speechwriter at the nuclear test-ban treaty commission in Vienna to dedicate himself full-time to politics in Ireland. Eoghan studied English and Philosophy (BA) in UCD, and International relations (MA) in Kings College London. In his spare time, Eoghan enjoys watching rugby, reading and adventure racing.

Catherine was rst elected to Dublin City Council in June 2009 before being elected to Seanad ireann in 2011. She is currently Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Arts and Culture. Catherine is from Mayo and comes from a strong Fine Gael family. A qualied solicitor with expertise in the area of commercial litigation, Catherine is also a uent Italian speaker, having studied at the Universit di Verona. She has a keen interest in the Arts and believes it to be more important than ever as a sector in the current economic climate. She has also been very active promoting Irish tourism since her election to the Seanad.

Patrick ODonovan TD
LIMERICK
Patrick was rst elected to Limerick County Council in June 2004, topping the poll at the age of 27 while also working as an industrial chemist. By the time he was re-elected in 2009, Patrick had qualied as a Primary School teacher. He was elected to the Dil in 2011. Patrick has a long association with Fine Gael and was also President of Young Fine Gael. He was also elected the youngest Fine Gael Council Group Leader in Ireland, in recognition for his reputation as a ghter on tough issues.

Senator Pat ONeill

CARLOW/KILKENNY
Pats political career began when he was elected to Kilkenny County Council in 2004, representing the Thomastown Electoral Area. He was reelected in 2009. Pat was elected to the Seanad in 2011 and is the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Transport. Pat is working to highlight Kilkenny as a great place to do business and cites the success stories of Glanbia and Moss Pottery as two examples of how companies can thrive in the county.

Joe OReilly TD
CAVAN/MONAGHAN
Joe began his working life as a Primary School Teacher. He was rst elected to the Seanad in 1989 before being elected for a second time in 2007. He was appointed Fine Gael Spokesperson in the Seanad on Communications, Energy and Natural resources in October 2007. Joe was then elected to Dil ireann in 2011. Joe founded the Bailieborough Mental Health Association and was also Chairman. He also enjoys stand-up comedy.

John Paul Phelan was rst elected to Kilkenny County Council in 1999. He was elected to Seanad ireann in 2007 and was the Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Enterprise, Trade and Employment. He is currently the Liaison Ocer between the Parliamentary Party and Young Fine Gael. John Paul plays both rugby and hurling and has been playing violin since the age of 10. His favourite TV programme is Boston Legal and he loves reading Bill Bryson is his favourite author.

Brian Walsh TD
GALWAY WEST
Brian Walsh was elected to Galway County Council in 2004 and was Mayor of Galway City from 2005-2006. He is a graduate of GMIT, where he was President of the Students Union. After graduating, Brian worked in Financial Services and ran his own Financial Management business for 12 years. Married with one daughter, Brian is a huge sports fan and played for his local club, Mervue GAA in his youth. He is also partial to the odd Chinese takaway while watching a comedy movie anything with Will Ferrell gets a thumbs up!
