A four-time world champion will not be among Fridays semifinal contenders at the 2012 Bluenose Squash Classic. World No. 12 Thierry Lincou played spoiler on Thursday, knocking the tournaments top seed Amr Shabana off his game in four gruelling sets. Shabana played well early, claiming the first set after he pulled a 8-6 advantage into a 11-6 victory; however, he would not win another one. Lincou came back to unflinchingly take the last three unanswered sets 11-8, 11-6 and 11-9. Lincou was humble in his postmatch interview to the crowd. It could have gone the other way easily. Aside from Shabanas dismissal, the tournaments other top seeds all qualified for the semifinals. Most notably, second seeded Laurens Jan Anjema turned aside a tough competitor in Julian Illingworth in straight sets. As Jan Anjemas reward, the world No. 9 will face the 11th ranked player in the world Daryl Selby in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal. Selby cruised to a 11-6 edge in the first set against Borja Golan and never let go, winning in straight sets. Meeting Lincou in the 6:15 p.m. semifinal is third seeded Hisham Ashour. He needed four sets to remove Stephen Coppinger from contention.
