With SolidWorks Toolbox, you can add standard hardware components to an assembly.
To enable SolidWorks Toolbox:
1. Click , ssss. 2. In the dialog box, select and rrr, then click KK. rs There are two lessons in this tutorial: l rll lll
l lll lllrsr lll
rl to start the Toolbox Basic Tutorial. rll lll This lesson introduces you to SolidWorks Toolbox and describes the Iollowing concepts: l Adding hardware to an assembly Page 1 oI 11 SolidWorks Toolbox 9/14/2010 Iile://C:\Documents and Settings\IigozyI\Local Settings\Temp\~hhCC79.htm l Editing hardware in an assembly
rl rlls l ll First, you create a part to use as a component in an assembly. 1. Create a block that is 100mm x 100mm x 20mm. 2. Use the dr dl Ieature to create two holes with the Iollowing parameters: l dr eer s dr l llsl - sK l eer - s dr l dr - 00000 l ns sls - lll s The location oI the holes does not need to exactly match the image below. s lr ll llr dr dl
3. Save the part as l0el. rl rlls ls srle Page 2 oI 11 SolidWorks Toolbox 9/14/2010 Iile://C:\Documents and Settings\IigozyI\Local Settings\Temp\~hhCC79.htm Next, you create the assembly to which you will add SolidWorks Toolbox hardware components. 1. Create an assembly and add two instances oI l0el to the assembly. 2. Change one oI the instances to a diIIerent color so you distinguish between the two. 3. Add three slrsl mates to align the Iaces oI the blocks. 4. Save the assembly as l0ll.
rl ss l dr rl Now you add a standard hex bolt Irom the SolidWorks Toolbox library. 1. Open the srs le . 2. Expand , sK, rl ls lrr, dr rl ls lrr. The lower pane oI the Design Library displays thumbnail previews oI the available hardware types. 3. Drag a dr lrr 4lr sr sK 4004 to the graphics area oI the assembly, but do not drop it yet. 4. Notice a preview oI the bolt appears in the graphics area.
5. Drop the bolt into one oI the holes when the preview changes to the Iollowing: Page 3 oI 11 SolidWorks Toolbox 9/14/2010 Iile://C:\Documents and Settings\IigozyI\Local Settings\Temp\~hhCC79.htm
The dr lrr 4lr sr sK 4004 dialog box appears. The title oI the dialog matches the selected component. You set the parameters oI the selected component in this dialog box. rl ss l dr rl lslslr 6. Select 200 in dr. 7. Select 00 in rsll. 8. To add a description so you can easily reIerence this component again: a. In the PropertyManager, under llslr, click seeellr. b. In the dialog box, type llll l Ior srlels, and click KK. 9. Click to add the component to the assembly. Because oI SmartMates and Mate ReIerences on the SolidWorks Toolbox components, the soItware automatically adds two mates between the block and the bolt. A slrsll mate aligns the bolt to the hole and a slrsl mate aligns the bolt head to the block. rl ss l rls dr rl Next, you add a second hex bolt to the assembly. The ssrl lesrsl PropertyManager is open allowing you to add more instances oI the same Toolbox component. 1. Drop a second Iastener on the other hole oI the assembly in the graphics area. The second screw appears in the assembly. Its size parameters match the Iirst screw because you inserted a second instance oI the same Iastener without closing the PropertyManager. 2. Click . rl ss ll l llr srle Add other Iasteners to the assembly. 1. Rotate the view so you can see the back oI the assembly.
2. In the srs le , expand Toolbox, ISO, Nuts, Hex Nuts. Notice the thumbnail previews update. 3. Drag a dr ll 4lr sKs4044 nut into the assembly and drop it on the edge oI the hole where the bolt protrudes.
rl ss ll l llr srle lslslr 4. Select 200 in dr, and click . A nut appears in the assembly. 5. Drop a second nut on the edge oI the second hole. Page 5 oI 11 SolidWorks Toolbox 9/14/2010 Iile://C:\Documents and Settings\IigozyI\Local Settings\Temp\~hhCC79.htm 6. Click . The nut sizes automatically to the most recently used size.
Because oI SmartMates and Mate ReIerences on the SolidWorks Toolbox components, the soItware automatically adds mates between the block and the nuts. A slrsll mate aligns the nut to the hole and a slrsl mate aligns a Ilat Iace oI the nut to the block. rl llss llr rsll llr rl Now that you have added the nuts, you can see that the bolts are not long enough. You can edit the deIinition oI the bolts to change their length. 1. In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click one oI the bolts, and select nl srsls. 2. In the dialog box, select 00 in rsll. The l e srlels list is now blank. This is because the description you added earlier was Ior a bolt with a length oI 50. To easily reIerence the bolt with a length oI 60, add a description. 3. Click . The bolt changes length and extends past the nut. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 Ior the other bolt. 5. Click lsr (Standard toolbar).
