Introduction I chose to use the ISD model ADDIE for this project. I chose ADDIE because, to me, it is the most straightforward approach to instructional design. In ADDIE, there are five basic categories. These are Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluation. My analysis included learner analysis and needs analysis. These are described more in depth below. The design and development of the project was to create a Mary Kay Skin Care class that I can use throughout my Mary Kay career. Mary Kay has examples provided to independent consultants, but I wanted a skin care class that represented me and was original. My development included creating an original skin care class that I felt was correlated with my instructor style. In the implementation of the class, I actually taught the class to two groups of young ladies, aged 16-28, at my house. Each of the ladies was transitioning from a teen skin care to the adult skin care. The instructional objective was My learners will be able to complete a skin care regiment in sequential order, based on their skin type and time of day (morning or night). The class was very hands-on and allowed the ladies to participate in a skin care regiment that was relevant to their needs. It took about 60 minutes for the learners to complete the training, excluding the question and answer session at the end. Finally, the evaluation was conducted as a game through which the participants had to recall the skin care regiment in order. Each of the learners completed a workshop evaluation form rating various pieces of instruction. Front-end analyses I performed a needs analysis and a learner analysis. The learners are using teen skin care, Velocity, through Mary Kay. They have mentioned the ineffectiveness of their current skin care, and I know it is due to changing hormones and a difference in need for skin care. Velocity is a three-in-one skin care treatment to prevent breakouts of acne. These learners are now wanting to prevent wrinkles, keep a healthy glow, and are more conscientious of the effects of sun on their face. According to this, these learners need to be introduced to the TimeWise skin care line and taught how to correctly apply each step. The results of my analyses result in a skin care class for 18-27 year old females. Instructional Strategy I created a skin care class, complete with step-by-step instructions while the learner was here. They left the workshop with sample sizes of the skin care regiment and a job aid instruction sheet. They will be following the skin care steps, in sequential order, using their materials that I provide. I chose this strategy because following a regiment is best accomplished through completing the regiment with the instructor present, so that I can answer any questions they may have at that time. This strategy worked great, as the learners had fun doing the skin care, instead of listening to a lecture or even viewing a video. It also gave them the hands-on approach, which allowed them to feel how wonderful and how clean their skin felt. Instruction I created a PowerPoint presentation for myself, which served as my notecards during the presentation. There was so much information that I did not want to overload them, but I wanted them to understand why it was important for them to switch from Velocity (Mary Kays teen line) to the TimeWise 3-in-1 and moisturizer (the adult skin care line). I have included it as a separate attachment. Bear in mind that this was only for my viewing, not for my learners. It is very informal, just giving me key points to bring up.

The students came to my house and were given a plastic bag with a mirror, small tray, job aid which listed the steps in order for use at home, and were given all needed materials at appropriate times. As indicated in the PowerPoint, we introduced ourselves, and then got right into the instruction. We discussed the Velocity teen line and that they had each indicated that the Velocity was not working for their skin anymore. We first used the Oil-Free Eye Make Up Remover to remove any mascara or eye makeup. Then we used a disposable facial cloth (which I provided) to moisten our faces and applied the 3-in-1 cleanser. After washing our face with the cleanser, we put on moisturizer (based on skin type). Following moisturizer, the students put on the day solution, which includes sunscreen spf25. Then we proceeded to put make up back on, because I surely wasnt going to make these sweet ladies leave without make up. In fact, our foundation is the final step in our TimeWise skin care line. The foundation is specially formulated to work with the cleanser, moisturizer, and day solution. Evaluation Once the skin care class was over, we played a quick game where the learners raised their hands to answer questions in the fastest time. Each time they answered correctly, they were allowed to place their name in a drawing. Following the game, I drew one name from the basket, and that person won a prize (Mary Kay lipstick). This allowed me to see if my learners could correctly list the steps to the skin care regiment in order. I also asked questions relating to the product, which the learners answered just as quickly. My evaluation of the instruction was conducted at my house, along with the implementation of the instruction. There were two groups of five young ladies, aged16-28 years, included in the instruction. The instruments I used for collecting data were a set of questions read aloud to the learners (provided below) and a workshop evaluation (provided below). In my data, I concluded that all the learners sufficiently understood the difference between the Velocity and TimeWise collections and met the instructional objective of being able to correctly complete a skin care regiment in sequential order. My learners did not give me any suggestions on how to improve the workshop. I believe thats because they were not familiar with delivering instruction efficiently and effectively. I found several places in the instruction that can use improvement for the next workshop. One is to create a PowerPoint that is visible to my learners. This will help those visual learners to connect the hands-on experience, as well as the auditory information I was delivering. Another improvement I would make is to allow everyone the opportunity to answer the evaluation questions perhaps as a written quiz? Im still not sure how I will improve it, but I do know that the formative evaluation of my learners should be improved to make it more beneficial. A third improvement would be to shorten the length of the workshop. The sixty minutes was a bit much for the provided instruction. I felt that I had to really stretch what I was saying. I could possibly shorten instruction to 45-50 minutes, then allow for questions-answers and evaluations afterward. Improvement in explanation of the foundation would also enhance instruction. Although I realize that foundation is the last step in skin care, I did not convey that to my learners very well. This step was the hardest for the learners to recall during the evaluation game. A final improvement to make before future instruction is to make sure the learners know what materials they are allowed to take home. I was not clear when I told them they could take home the job aid and samples. I had several people take the mirror and plastic bags with them as well. These are materials I will need for future sessions; I will need to be more succinct in what the learner is allowed to take home with them upon completion of the workshop.

Overall, I feel this skin care class was a success and I look forward to modifying instruction and making said improvements to make the class more efficient next time. This project was certainly relevant to me as I am an Independent Consultant through Mary Kay and I am just starting to lead skin care classes. Questions read during evaluation: The first step in the TimeWise skin care is ___________. (Oil-Free Eye Make up Remover) True or False: Day solution is the last step in the skin care process. (False) What is the last step in the skin care process? (Foundation) There are two skin types by which Mary Kay groups the skin care. What are they? (Normal to Dry and Combination-Oily) Which step rids the face of make-up, dirt, and dead skin? (3-in-1 Cleanser) What does the 3-in-1 stand for? (Cleanses, Tones, Refines all in one bottle) What is the most sensitive skin on your face? (eye lids) What are the beads in the night solution? (vitamins and minerals) True/False: If I have oily skin, I do NOT need moisturizer. (False) Finally, who can name the skin care steps in order? (Eye Make Up Remover, Cleanser, Moisturizer, Solution (Day or Night), Foundation
