Important Circular Pertaining to Dissertation Attention: Students of batch 2010-12


This is to inform you that the dissertation project assignment would commence from 30/01/2012 for a period of about 4 weeks which includes a preparatory work for the assignment for a period of 1 week. During this period you are required to identify an organization of your choice. On identification of the organization the student has to discuss with executives of the organization and formulate the problem(s) for the study. Based on the problem(s) of the study the student has to prepare two separate synopsis (for dual specialization) and get it approved from the respective guide(s). This process is to be completed preferably during first week. The data collection, analysis and report writing will have to be completed during the remaining three weeks of February 2012 and during March 2012 while the VI Term is in session. The submission of the project report after guidance from the respective faculty would be on 02/04/2012. Two copies each of the dissertations has to be submitted to Ms. Rekha (DSBS office) and one copy of the same is to be kept by the students for his / her use. The Faculty Guide for respective assignment is announced and already disclosed in the notice board. You are required to contact the Faculty Guide for further clarifications, if any. The classes of 6th term will be commencing from 27/02/2012. Such of those students who have opted for dual specialization are required to take two dissertation project assignments in two different specialization area which would be equivalent to two courses. Please note that besides (two) dissertation assignments, the students are requested to take two specialization courses in each specialization area plus the core course which is compulsory during the VI term.

The following is the broad breakup and guideline of evaluation scheme for each functional discipline.

Dissertation Report 70 Marks In broad terms the components will have to cover; a) Submission of synopsis on time (in person or through email to the faculty guide) (05 marks) b) Submission of completed dissertation on 01/04/2012 (05 marks) c) Definition of the problem and objectives of the study (10 marks) d) Methodology , Sampling, Data collection tools (10 marks) e) Findings / observation research (08 marks) f) Recommendation & Conclusions (12 marks) g) Bibliography (08 marks) h) Authentication of data collection & questionnaire (06 marks) i) Overall clarity of report including certificate from organization (06 marks) Viva voce 30 Marks

1) This covers the presentation of all the above aspects including communication skills. 2) The schedule of each presentation would be of 10 minutes and question and answer session would be of 10 minutes. In all 20 minutes for each student is earmarked. 3) Viva voce is being scheduled from 2nd May 2012 for a maximum of 3 days. The details is being worked out. Under no circumstance reschedule of viva voce will be entertained.
