A note about the yarn. First, I used ALL of the skein. I even ended up undoing my gauge swatch and using that, so keep that in mine when knitting this project, or if you want to add two pockets instead of one. Second, I used an acrylic blend yarn for kids stuff because I know how messy kids can be (especially when eating), and a mom wants nothing better than to just throw something in the washer and not worry about ruining a hand knit piece of work. I got ya covered moms :) Size:! ! 2 year old (2T)

Body
CO 80 sts using US 7 circular needle (or size to obtain gauge) Knit in 2x2 rib, place marker, and join in the round Knit in 2x2 rib for 2 more rounds Switch to US 8 circular needles (or size to obtain gauge) Do short row shaping as follows: Rnd 4 (RS): k28, place marker, k12, place marker, k28, place marker, k till beginning of round marker (should be 12) Rnd 5 (RS): k28, sm, k6 sleeve stitches, w&t Rnd 6 (WS): p6, sm, p28, sm, p6, w&t Rnd 7 (RS): k6, sm, k28, sm, k till 1 st before marker, w&t ! note: make sure to pickup previous wrap Rnd 8 (WS): p12, sm, p28, p till 1 st before marker, w&t ! note: make sure to pickup previous wrap Rnd 9 (RS): knit till begging of rnd marker ! note: make sure to pickup previous wrap Rnd 10: begin raglan increases while at the same time ON SLEEVES ONLY knit as follows: *k1, m1* repeat till marker ! You can do any raglan increase method you prefer. I did kfb one stitch before and ! one stitch after the markers. Rnd 11: knit Rnd 12: knit w/raglan increases Repeat rounds 11 & 12 till raglan increases measure about 5 from collar to the armpit area. Next rnd, knit till sleeve. Place all sleeve stitches onto scrap yarn. Cast on 4 stitches for underarm and continue knitting in the round joining the back and front sides. Do the same for the next sleeve.

3 Now knit in the round till desired length. Make sure you have a multiple of 4 so that once you reach the bottom, you can do 2x2 rib. Either m1 or k2tog here. Switch back to US 7 circular (or size to obtain gauge) to begin 2x2 rib. Once 2x2 rib is done, use the sewn-off bind off OR bind off really loose.

Sleeves
Using US 8 dpns (or whichever size needle used for body), move all sleeve stitches onto needles, dividing evenly. Pickup 4-6 stitches from under arm (I ended up picking up a few more so there would be no gaps) Rnd 1: *k2tog, k1* repeat only on the sleeve portion and not the underarm part. Basically, from one raglan increase to the next. Rnd 2: Count stitches and knit this round3. Make sure you have a multiple of 4, so while just knitting this round, k2tog anywhere to get the right number of stitches. Rnd 3: Switching to US 7 dpns (or whichever size needle used for 2x2 rib in body), begin 2x2 rib for 3 rounds. Bind off loosely. Repeat for the other sleeve.

Pocket
Using US 7 dpns (or whichever size needle used for 2x2 rib), CO a multiple of 4 plus 2. I casted on 14. Knit in 2x2 rib for 3 rows. Switch to US 8 dpns (or whichever size needle used for body), and knit in St st for however long you want the pocket. I knitted till about 2. Begin decreasing as follows on RS only: k1, ssk, knit till 3 stitches before the end, k2tog, k1 Purl back next row and repeat the decrease till desired amount. I decreased on 3 rows. Bind off on RS.

Finishing
Attach pocket(s) by using safety pins to hold down the pocket while you sew them on. I used a running stitch, but you can use any method youd like. Weave loose ends. I ended up doing some embroidery and simple crochet owers and added it to the smock. But really, you can decorate any way youd like. Use embroidery, felt, crochet, ribbons, bows, buttons, really anything goes! Here are some ideas I was toying with... making an owl pocket using the owl cable pattern knitting up a cute bunny and using and i-cord to attach him to the pocket so he can peek through making an intarsia on the front adding more than one or two pockets
