An Exciting Offering

This statement was in the CNN headlines, April 6, 1999: Armed robber holds up church during Easter service. An armed gunman wearing a ski mask entered a New Orleans church fifteen minutes into the worship service. With a gun to one members head, he ordered some to lift the offering. Among the 100 in attendance, he left grumbling that there were too many one-dollar bills in the collection plate! This weekend, we also will take an offering, but it will not be because of criminal or legalistic compulsion, but out of love. Hopefully, we will be generous and not stingy, CLIMBING HIGHER, SHINING BRIGHTER. Sixteen of Jesus 38 parables dealt with money and possessions. He talked more about material things than Heaven or Hell combined. Not because they were not significant, but because people find it so uncomfortable to give. Jesus dealt with money matters, because money matters! It is a reflection of what we love and worship and how we believe. Jesus said that if we will be faithful in the least with material things, then He can trust us with greater spiritual influence. We are to be generous and ready to share (1 Timothy 6:18), contributing to the needs of the saints (Romans 12:13). Some of you have been involved in supporting our capital campaign of our Phase II building which includes half of all of our ministry space on this campus. Many of you previously promised to give (2 Corinthians 9:5) and have sought to fulfill that commitment by Gods grace and your ability (2 Corinthians 8:9, 11). Even if your pledge is completed, please continue to give until we have climbed the mountain of the remaining debt. Others of you are new to the ministry and have not yet gotten involved. Remember that even though the Lord promised to give the land of Canaan to Israel, He also said that He would clear away these nations before you little by little (Deuteronomy 7:22). The Lord is testing our faith and wanting new people to have the joy of participation. Know that the Lord your God will deliver us (Deuteronomy 7:23). It is my firm prayer that we will be like those of Nehemiahs day, lending helping hands to the good work which God has already begun (Nehemiah 2:18) and that we His servants will arise (Nehemiah 2:20). May we hear, obey, and trust Him. Where God guides, He provides. May we be like great believers of old who through faith conquered kingdomswhen called, obeyedand considered Him faithful who had promised (Hebrews 11:33, 8, 11). Lets have a truly exciting offering this weekend. May God not be disappointed because we have given a sacrifice and not just a tip.

There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and Sunday morning 11:00 service. Come and meet Pastor Wicker.

After a fainting spell, Hannah undergoes countless medical tests. All signs point to one underlying factor: Hannahs difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she learns from her parents: she was actually adopted...after a failed abortion attempt. Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah joins a group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past...and find hope for her unknown future.
The producers of OCTOBER BABY have assigned 10% of the profits of the movie to frontline organizations helping women facing crisis pregnancies, lifeaffirming adoption agencies, and those caring for orphans.

Who or what is Protected Harbor, and what does it do? Visit us this weekend at the Missions Kiosk in the Commons!
In talking with people, the above question is still frequently asked! It is fair to state that helping people to understand what Protected Harbor does, how it operates, and whom it benefits, is still a major challenge for us. We do not have deep advertising and promotional budgets to blanket our message. Protected Harbor is a Christian faith-based, non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to glorify God through raising funds that will pay for the construction and on-going operation and management of group homes for developmentally disabled adults. There are numerous developmentally disabled adults in the Southwest Florida area who depend entirely on their parents or professional assistance in order to survive. The future for these dependent adults is questionable at best, because our society and infrastructure are not equipped to provide the loving care they deserve. Their parents or guardians eventually advance in age or have failing health to the point where they are no longer able to care for their very special child. The parents of the developmentally disabled also are entitled to know, and deserve the assurance, that their children will be loved and cared for. That is where Protected Harbor enters into the picture with group homes where each person can become all that he or she can be in a loving, nurturing, family environment. In a time when other Christian organizations are closing group homes and ministries to the developmentally disabled due to state funding cuts and other reasons, Protected Harbor is committed by the grace of God to continue and grow in service to Gods very special people. You can make a difference by praying for Protected Harbor every day. Then prayerfully consider what God would have you do as you honor Him and give back to Him a portion of what He has given you. Whether you make a one-time gift, commit to becoming a Sustaining Partner by regular giving, or anything else God lays on your heart, you, and our precious adults, will be blessed by your participation. If you would like to learn more, please stop by the Missions Kiosk in the Commons before you leave church today, call 239248-7449, or visit our web site at www. godsprotectedharbor.com. Important: Protected Harbor is a non-profit organization and 501(c) (3) corporation registered in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code.

Teacher: Gail Venturino Author: Shaunti Feldhan Tuesday Only This Bible study relates to important issues of Christian marriage and how a godly wife can make a powerful impact in that relationship. Based on the authors insightful revelations about the inner lives of men, this study will lead you to an important change in heart attitudes and life practices in order to glorify Christ through your marriage.

Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, not Food

Teacher: Lucy Taylor Author: Lysa Terkeurst Tuesday Only Has food become more about frustration than fulfillment? This study will explore the missing link between a womans desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. This is not a how-to manual or the latest, greatest dieting plan. This study will instead encourage woman to have their deepest need met by God and not food. Teacher: Debbie Nicholas Author: Various Authors Tuesday Only Did you know there are over 2,350 verses in the Bible about money? Did you know that nearly half of Jesus parables are about possessions? In this study, you will hear from five renowned experts on the subject of biblical financial management. *Giving as an Act of Worship *Dedicate It All to God The topics include: *The Big Picture *Saving and Investing *Enjoy What God has Given You *Plan Your Spending *Gods Solution to Debt Teacher: Rae Manchester Author: Priscilla Shirer Tues./Wed. This study inspires women with intentional, spirit-filled living from three unique angles. Section one, entitled, "This Is Who I Am," helps a woman define herself as "authentically me, purposefully feminine, surprisingly satisfied, and faithfully His." Section two, "This Is What I Have," invites her to value "my best, my blessing, my honor, and my heart." And section three, "This Is What Matters To Me," focuses on joyfully honoring God as a wife, mother, and family member while resolving to live with the grace that leaves a godly legacy.

Managing Our Finances Gods Way

The Resolution for Women

I Never Thought Id See the Day: Culture at the Crossroads

Teacher: Mary Ann Tindall Author: Dr. David Jeremiah Tues./Wed. Is western civilization in an accelerating decline? "Yes," says David Jeremiah. This study details numerous signs of cultural decay including: America held hostage by Iran, marriage becoming obsolete, America turning its back on Israel, and atheists attack on religion. Can this downward spiral be reversed? Yes, but only if one person at a time returns to God with our heart, our manner of life, and our dedication to genuine worship of God in service.

This Is My Story: Creating a Scrapbook Legacy of Faith

Teacher: Jennifer Patterson Author: Lisa Welchel Tues./Wed. Pass down a spiritual legacy to children and grandchildren. This class combines Bible study with journaling about the significant experiences that have shaped your life. You will create a scrapbook that captures important stories and spiritual milestones to share with the next generation.

Value Packed Parenting: Raising Rock-Solid Kids in a Pleasure Driven World

Teacher: Shannon Moore Author: Dr. Kevin Leman Tues./Wed. The truth is weve got one shot at raising our kidsjust a few years to get them ready for life on their own. In a very real sense when were raising our kids were packing their luggage to leave our home well equipped. Are we going to fill their luggage with value...or filler? Gods Word and biblical principles will help us establish rock-solid kids who will stand against the tide. The topics include: *The 10 Best Gifts Youll Ever Give Your Kids *How to Listen So Kids Will Talk & How To Talk So Kids Will Listen *Caution: Anger Ahead *Standing Up to the New Goliath

Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask

Teacher: Debbie Norton/Barb Rowe Author: Angela Thomas Wednesday Only Why cant I get it together? Am I as invisible as I feel? What am I so afraid of? It takes a brave woman to ask these questions and dig into these topics alongside other believers. Weve all got insecurities, flaws, and struggles that were afraid to address. If we can be brave enough to raise the questions, God will answer us. Youve got questions. Gods got answers. Be brave. Ask.

Teacher: Nancy Powers Author: Priscilla Shirer Wednesday Only The Egyptians in Exodus 1 were intent on enslaving the Israelites, wearing them down so that Gods chosen people would become disillusioned and not live up to their destiny. Of the original two million Israelites who received Gods invitation to enter the Promised Land, only two actually entered it! Similarly, modern day Christians often hear and understand the promises of God, but then rarely choose to experience them in everyday life. This study invites you to change that pattern for good, live beyond your circumstances, and expect to see God move in miraculous ways day after day. We can reach the promised land!

One in a Million: Journey to Your Promised Land

Restore My Heart: Gods Passionate Love For His Bride

Teacher: Peggy Cuozzo Author: Denise Glenn Wednesday Only Discover the passion of the Lord God for his people; how tenderly and compassionately you are loved, just as you are, and His desire to lavishly adorn you with His precious gifts. Find out how these eternal truths are beautifully illustrated for today's women in the ancient Jewish customs and wedding traditions. Join the wedding celebration and learn how to have your heart restored to the function of its original design, transporting God's love to you, through you, and to others.

Between a Rock and a Grace Place: Divine Surprises in the Tight Spots of Life

Teacher: Kim Hayes Author: Carol Kent Wednesday Only In this study, you will learn the liberating truth that when we are caught between a rock and a hard place, we are given a choice: Will we place ourselves in a posture of humility and complete dependence on God, or will we just try harder and stumble over what could be a transforming encounter with grace? With hope, joy, and a sense of humor, you will see Gods grace places in the middle of your worst moments and find Him to be more than enough.

Teacher: Sherri Dorrill Authors: Moore/Shirer/Arthur Wednesday Only In this unique Bible study, you will take a two week journey through the following subjects: Kay Arthur teaches from the book of Hebrews. Hebrews is both an example of God's faithfulness and a challenge to believers to be faithful in difficult times. Priscilla Shirer teaches from Ephesians 3:20-21 on God's abundance. A fundamental basis for every believer is the absolute reality that God can do whatever He chooses to do. God's ability empowers our faithfulness. Beth Moore teaches on the topic of discernment. In these difficult days, it is absolutely essential that we learn to trust the Holy Spirit to enable us to determine what is true and what is false.

Why you should serve in the Preschool and Childrens Ministries

3. Reaching children is a top priority for the church.
Its been proven that most people who will come to Christ do so when they are young. The childhood years are the years of greatest opportunity for the gospel. Unfortunately, many churches dont make the most of what God has given them. If you want to see people come to Christ, then you should serve in Preschool & Childrens Ministries. Dont forget that the #1 reason for serving is: Children are an important priority to God, so they should be a priority to you, too! The #2 reason for serving is: It multiplies your efforts for generations to come! Stay tuned next week and we will share the #4 reason why you should serve in Preschool and Childrens MInistries. Find out how you can personally impact children for Jesus! Call Beverly (Preschool) at 596-8600 x351 or Larry (Childrens) at 596-8600 x370.
