Standard Abrasives
Over 50 Years of Success and Service Since 1959, the Standard Abrasives brand has been changing the way industry works with a variety of coated, bonded and non-woven abrasives designed for productive high-speed deburring, grinding, polishing, finishing and cleaning applications on metal surfaces of all types. 1959: Quick Change Discs Introduced. Introduction of the first patented all-metal quick change fastening system revolutionized the way metals were ground. Originally named SocAtt metal-to-metal system (now named TS System), it remains the most popular choice for attaching discs to power tools. 1979: Quick Change Non-Woven Discs. The Standard Abrasives line of quick change discs expanded to include non-woven abrasives. 1983: Manufacturing Expansion. A manufacturing facility in Brookville, Ohio was acquired to expand the Standard Abrasives brand of coated abrasive specialties. 1994: Non-Woven Expansion. An environmentally responsible non-woven manufacturing facility was built in California in order to manufacture the highest quality products. 1997: Room to Grow. More space was needed for the growing family of Standard Abrasives products and new facilities were added in Simi Valley, California. 1998: ISO 9001 Certification. The manufacturing facility in Oak Hills, California became ISO 9001 Certified. 1999: New & Advanced Convolute Wheels. The new Standard Abrasives Convolute Wheel is introduced. 2000: Manufacturing Growth. The ISO 9001 certified facility in Oak Hills, California doubles its size and manufacturing capacity. 2003: Flap Brush Manufacturing. A full line of Mandrel-mounted and large Flap Brushes are introduced under the Standard Abrasives brand. 2008: Cut-Off Wheels. The Standard Abrasives line is expanded to include Cut-Off Wheels. 2009: 50th Anniversary. The Standard Abrasives brand turned 50 and looked forward to a bright future of changing the way industry works, far into the next century.

Choice of Quick Change Attachments The Standard Abrasives brand offers three quick change attachment styles. Each offers fast disc changes, a centered disc and is smooth running to help reduce operating expenses and increase productivity by providing the most value and use out of every disc. Variety of Abrasive Grains Standard Abrasives Quick Change Discs for disc sanders are available in a choice of grains best suited for a variety of industrial applications: A/O (Aluminum Oxide) Fast cut rate, all-purpose versatility. A/O Pro Highest initial rate of cut of all A/O discs, ideal for prolonged edge work. A/O Extra High stock removable on difficult to grind and heat-sensitive metals. Silicon Carbide Sharp cutting points provide rapid cutting action; best on nonferrous metals. Zirconia (formerly known as Norzon) Fast and aggressive stock removal for tough grinding applications; for heavy pressure use. Zirconia Pro (formerly known as Power Zirc) Cool running on stainless for extended stock removal; best performance when medium to heavy pressure is applied. Very durable. Ceramic (formerly known as Pinnacle) Cool cutting action reduces loading risk and discoloration, best on stainless and high nickel alloys. Ceramic Pro (formerly known as Pinnacle Pro) Higher ratio of blended ceramic grain; best in class for cut, coolness, edge durability and life.
Quick Change TS System was introduced in 1959 as the SocAtt original metal-tometal quick change sanding system. Now called the TS System, it remains the most popular style for safety, productivity and fast disc changes. Change discs by simply twisting to unlock the disc from the holder pad.
Quick Change TR System (formerly known as Lockit) features a common nylon threaded male (screw type) hub. Easily mounts to TR or Roloc type holder pads holder pads with a half turn. Stays securely in place for the life of the disc.
Quick Change TP System (formerly known as ClickOn) features a snap-on/snapoff nylon fastening hub. Allows for quick disc changes when working on mild contours, as well as flat surfaces. Mounts to TP or Power-Lock Type I holder pads.

Standard Abrasives Resin Fiber Discs

Resin Fiber Discs are used for weld blending, grinding, deburring, and finishing applications on various metal substrates. Discs are ideal for removing imperfections on larger areas of all metals. They resist loading and have a high cut rate. Available in Aluminum Oxide, Premium Aluminum Oxide, Ceramic Oxide and Zirconia Alumina grains for a variety of applications.

For easy identification, the name and grit are imprinted on each disc. The maximum allowable RPM for Resin Fiber Discs is the same as the maximum RPM of the holder pad used to drive the discs, provided the holder pad and the disc are the same nominal diameter.

Standard Abrasives Precision Cartridge Rolls

Precision Cartridge Rolls (formerly Kay Rolls) run smoother and last longer than conventional Cartridge Rolls. The solid inner core bonds and supports the inner wrap of the roll, with self-trimming capability when in contact with the work piece. The secure bond of the total abrasive wrap to the drive stem eliminates loosening and vibration. Precision Cartridge Rolls are used when high tolerance and precision grinding is required.

Surface Conditioning products (formerly BriteRite) provide a more compact structure of non-woven fibers than Buff & Blend products. Surface Conditioning products have a woven fabric (scrim) embedded in the nylon structure to provide additional strength and durability for edge work, deburring and efficient blending of all metal types. Each of the three Standard Abrasives Surface Conditioning materials offers unique benefits for your application. FE Most durable with highest edge durability and very flexible. High initial and extended rate of cut. Best material when high contact pressure and stock removal are required. Most efficient on ferrous materials on both flat and contoured surfaces. All holder pads for Edge Pro type discs include a 1/4 shank. Edge Pro type discs are designed to be run in conjunction with Edge Pro type holder pads only. Use with any other type of holder pad could result in the disc becoming detached during operating and result in injury. Regarding R.P.M. ratings, please note that the maximum R.P.M. for holder pads are greater than the recommended R.P.M. of Edge Pro discs. For safety considerations, please do not exceed the recommended R.P.M. stated for all Edge Pro discs. Use all appropriate face, hands and body safety equipment when using any abrasives.

Standard Abrasives Buff & Blend Products
Buff & Blend products are made from tough, resin-reinforced nylon fiber with abrasive grain. Each of the Standard Abrasives Buff & Blend materials offers unique benefits. AP Thinnest and most pliable, useful in tough metal removal where access is restricted due to part shape or channels. GP Used for general duty applications, provides a high cut rate white producing consistent finishes. HP Stiff material produces an aggressive cut rate, designed for applications where metal removal is required. HS REGULAR High strength material has greater tear resistance, perfect for use on final finishing on irregular shaped parts. HS COARSE Best choice for tough applications that require a higher rate of cut or a coarser finish than HS Medium. It is ideal for satin and grain finishing applications, as well as blending and cleaning surface imperfections. Standard Abrasives Buff & Blend Flap Brushes

Conformable flap brushes allow for controlled wheel action, maximizing removal of surface contaminants without removing critical detail or gouging the work piece. They produce a consistent finish which does not reflect lines commonly attributed with ganged arbor hole discs. Density, pressure and angle determine the ability of the Flap Brush to remove burrs, oxidation and handling marks. The abrasive material provides ventilation which helps dissipate heat and, therefore, runs cooler. This provides consistent finishes without smearing or otherwise discoloring the work piece. Minimal vibration can reduce chattermarks on the work piece and can lead to less operator and machine fatigue. Use on the following tools: Straight Shaft Portable Grinder, Bench Motor, Backstand, Floor Lathe, Rotary, Straight Line, and Robotic.

Used with vibratory orbital and straight-line sanders, to produce matte and satin finishes. Rolls are also cut to size and used by hand or to finish a part turning on a lathe or spindle. Manufactured from the highest quality Unitized material. Unique design offers material removal while imparting a final finish. Used in conjunction with, and sometimes in lieu of, a coated abrasive Resin Fiber Disc or Flap Disc. Applications include deburring, cleaning, edge breaking, final finishing, blending and polishing. SERIES 524 Similar to Series 532, but with extra layer for durability. Provides greater rigidity than Series 532, for more precise finishing applications. Higher cut and finishing rate than Series 532. Ideal for high contact pressure applications where cut rate and durability are important.
