What To Bring and How To Get Here

What do I need to bring?


Most rooms are small but cozy. They are fully furnished so all you need to supply are the things to make your room feel more like home:

bed linens (pillows, sheets, blankets, comforter, etc.) toiletries (including towels, washcloths, shower shoes, etc.) clothes hangers, thumb tacks (for bulletin boards), posters, sticky tack (no nails or screws please) computer (see ResNet section for internet connection information) alarm clock (strong enough to take abuse!) radio/stereo (no sub-woofers, please!) mugs and dishes for late night study breaks laundry supplies

Fridge rentals - Campus Fridge Rentals is the exclusive supplier to New College Residents. Staff will be on hand during the move-in period in September and will deliver the fridge to your room and arrange to pick it up in April/May. How do I get there?


New College Residences are located on the west side of the University of Toronto campus, between College Street and Bloor Street West. The Spadina subway station is located on the corner of Bloor Street West and Spadina Ave.; the 510 southbound Spadina streetcar has a stop at Willcocks Street. Arriving By Car From the Southwest - Detroit, Windsor, Chatham, London, Kitchener-Waterloo 1. Take Highway 401 east to Highway 427 2. Take Highway 427 south to the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) 3. Take QEW east to the Gardiner Expressway East. 4. Take the Spadina Avenue exit and turn left onto Spadina Ave. 5. Go north on Spadina until you reach Willcocks Street (1st light north of College Street) From the Golden Horseshoe - Buffalo, Fort Erie, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Oakville 1. Take QEW east to the Gardiner Expressway East. 2. Take the Spadina Avenue exit and turn left onto Spadina Ave. 3. Go north on Spadina until you reach Willcocks Street (1st light north of College Street) From the East - Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, Belleville 1. Take Highway 401 west to the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) 2. Take DVP south to and travel south to the Bloor Street exit. 3. As you approach Bloor Street from the exit ramp, stay to the right and turn right (west) onto Bloor Street. 4. Travel west along Bloor Street. 5. Turn left (south) at Huron Street - one block west of St. George Street. 6. Travel south on Huron Street across Harbord Street to Willcocks St. 7. Turn right (west) on Willcocks St. The main entrance to Wilson Hall is at 40 Willcocks St., just east of Spadina Avenue on your right. Please note: You cannot make a left-hand turn on to either Willcocks or Classic if you are travelling south on Spadina Avenue. Arriving By Plane If you are arriving by plane at Pearson International Airport, you have several options: Taxi: Located immediately outside any of the airport terminals on the Arrivals Level. The trip downtown could take from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. The cost will be from $45 to $55 (ask for a flat rate). Airport Express Hotel Shuttle Bus: The bus travels from the airport to several hotel locations downtown. From there you can transger to either a taxi or take Public Transit (TTC) to Spadina station. Kiosks are located outside any of the airport terminals on the Arrivals Level. The trip will take a minimum of 50 minutes. New College students will receive a discount if they book through the link on our website: http://www.newcollege.utoronto.ca/residence/admissions/moving.htm#what. Public Transportation (TTC): Take the 192 Airport Rocket to Kipling Station. It runs every 20 minutes and departs from Terminal 3, Arrival Level and Terminal 1 Ground Level. The cost is $2.75 CDN. From Kipling Station, take the eastbound train; Spadina Station is 13 stops away. Arriving By Bus or Train Bus: Buses arrive at the downtown Toronto Bus Terminal at Bay Street and Dundas Street. You can board the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) Dundas St. streetcar on the north side of Dundas Street. Fare is $2.75. Obtain a transfer from the streetcar driver when you pay for your fare so you can transfer to another streetcar at no additional cost. Travel west and get off at Spadina Avenue. Wait for the Spadina Avenue streetcar north to Willcocks Street (the first stop past College Street). Wilson Hall is on the north-east corner, our New Hall on the south-east corner. To get to Wetmore Hall, walk north to Classic Avenue, the next street, and turn right. Train: Trains arrive at Union Station. Follow signage to the TTC streetcar. Fare is $2.75. Take the Spadina Streetcar #510 which will proceed south to Queen's Quay and then north along Spadina Avenue. Get off at Willcocks Street (the first stop past College Street). Wilson Hall is on the north-east corner, our New Hall on the south-east corner. To get to Wetmore Hall, walk north to Classic Avenue, the next street, and turn right.

How To Survive Move-In! Please follow these guidelines to make your move-in as smooth as possible: Drivers please approach New College, Wilson Hall (40 Willcocks St.) from Spadina Ave., turning east onto Willcocks St. PLEASE NEVER LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE UNATTENDED. Students hop out of the car and head to the Wilson Hall Lounge (2nd Floor, 40 Willcocks St.) to get your keys. Student Greeters will show you where to pull your vehicle over on either Willcocks St. (Wilson Hall and 45 Willcocks) or Classic Ave. (Wetmore Hall) to unload belongings. Once youve found a spot, unload all belongings onto the sidewalk/grass, and immediately move your vehicle to a legitimate long-term parking space (see map on reverse). Unload your belongings quickly we will try to give you some help, but there are a lot more of you than us! If you are arriving with more than one vehicle, any vehicle that is not unloading belongings should proceed immediately to a long-term parking area, before heading back on foot to help students to their rooms. There are student greeters and staff around to help you find your way just ask and well point you in the right direction. If you encounter any delays, please be patient we are in downtown Toronto, and need everyone to work together to ensure we get this done quickly. Again, in order to ensure the best flow of traffic, please do not park and leave your car unattended.
