DaimlerChrysler built this program so Internet Explorer is necessary in order to run the program and its features. It is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. I dont know about Mac OS because I dont have a Mac or access to one to see if it would work. This example shown in Window 7, but it will work the same in XP and Vista: 1. Put the CD in the CD Rom Drive. 2. Depending on your settings, either Internet Explorer will automatically open or Windows will recognize the CD is there and a popup window will be shown:
For some versions of Internet Explorer, an additional security warning will pop up. Click Yes to allow active content.
This will allow the menus to populate with service information once the CD loads. NOTE: If you do not see any service information items, ActiveX content hasnt been unblocked on your system. You need to allow ActiveX to see service information
The menu for all of the different groups of repair instructions will open. Choose the group that suits what you need to find: (RED BOX)
The menus work in a tree type format. When you select something from the left hand side (SMALL RED BOX), the data is displayed in the right had side (LARGE RED BOX)
Wiring Diagrams:
The wiring diagrams functions work in the same manner as the Service Information. The wiring diagrams use Adobe SVG Viewer to display properly. This must be installed prior to using the wiring diagrams. To install SVG Viewer, Click on the Install SVG Viewer link (RED BOX)
You will need to allow ActiveX Content here as well. Follow the instructions on screen and complete the SVG View installation.
The wiring diagram menu will open. This menu works the same way as the service information menu.
The menus work in a tree type format. When you select something from the left hand side (SMALL RED BOX), the data is displayed in the right had side (LARGE RED BOX). You also have a tool bar above the wiring diagram that allows you to change the display properties and print the wiring diagram.
In the upper small red square, there is a picture place holder icon where the wiring diagram display should be. In the lower red square, there is a page error icon. These errors are here because Internet Explorer is looking for SVG View to display the wiring diagram picture. Install SVG Viewer and the problem is solved. For printing issues, refer to your printer manufacturers settings to change the print format to suit your needs.
If the CD wont autorun and/or Internet Explorer does not auto-start Advanced Settings: Windows XP:
The easiest way is to say "Yes" when prompted to allow "blocked content" when running this product. There will be a bar at the top of the screen of the Default.htm page in Internet Explorer. If you already said "No" or have higher security settings and need to turn the blocked content on: Select Tools -> Internet Options...
Click the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Security category and check the box labeled "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer".
Chrysler uses some technologies in this product that Microsoft calls "Active Content." For security reasons, some Internet Explorer users must "unblock" these technologies before they are able to function properly.
Now select the Advanced tab, then Scroll down the Settings to Security Check the box for: Now click Apply. Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer
Another confirmation box will come up if you are using the latest Internet Explorer:
Click OK to accept the Microsoft SmartScreen Filter information. Click OK to close the Internet Options menu. Now you should be able to run the files from the CD automatically. To do this, you may need to eject the CD and put it in again.
Internet Explorer 9: If you cant get the service information to show up Advanced Settings:
When Chrysler designed this CD, it was designed for their dealers who are internal users, so external or blocked content is not an issue. All of these settings were set by Chryslers IT department to enable this content as standard. If you are using higher security settings, this set of instructions will show you how to enable the ActiveX content to run from the Dodge Sprinter Manual CD. Open Internet Explorer. In Internet Explorer 9, Click on the Tools menu (Gear wheel symbol). Then select Internet Options (RED BOX)
Now select the Advanced tab, then Scroll down the Settings to Security Check the box for: Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer
Steps: 1. Make a new folder in My Documents (or wherever else you want to put the CD contents) 2. Open the CD in either My Computer or Windows Explorer. Click Edit>Select All, then click Copy. 3. Open the new folder you just created. Then click Edit>Paste or just rightclick then Paste to copy the contents of the CD into it. 4. Now rightclick on the default.htm file. Select Copy to desktop Make shortcut. This file, default.htm, will open the CD manual. 5. Now you must enable ActiveX: a. Open Internet Explorer and click on either Tools>Internet Options or the Gear symbol then Internet Options. b. Click the Advanced Tab: c. Now make sure the box is checked for Allow active content to run in files on My Computer
d. Click Apply. Now shut down Internet Explorer. e. Click on the shortcut to Default.htm to start the service manual.
This also works with 32 bit OS, and makes the program run faster, and is best when you use IE9.
IMPORTANT:
It is important to understand that when DaimlerChrysler designed this CD, and Custom Training made them, it was designed for Dodge dealers who have an IT support person on staff to get it installed. Dodge really never released any install or use instructions because they never envisioned this going beyond their dealers and Vista or Win7 weren't even on the radar back then (2005/06). Please feel free to contact me using the eBay messaging system for help. If the CD you receive is defective, I will be happy to send you out a replacement.
I just used Windows Update and now the CD wont display content correctly or at all. Or: I can get the first topic content to display, but not any others
A new update to Internet Explorer has caused some issues. This update is designed to improve the internet experience (yaaay!) but it creates issues with this CD as a legacy product. (booh!) Remember, this CD was designed and manufactured before Vista or Windows7 existed. The original designers had XP and IE5 to work with. The Dodge dealers still use XP and old versions of IE as these are what works with their service information. This CD was never designed to go out of the Dodge dealer or fleet networks, so it isnt flexible in spec to accommodate user preferences or configurations.
1. Open the CD contents. If you are using Vista or Win7, you should be running this from your hard drive as previously described. If you havent already done so, it makes life a lot easier. 2. Click on Tools 3. Select Compatibility View settings:
4. Check the checkbox: Display all websites in compatibility view ; Then click Close
5. Now full function should be restored. If you want to use IE9 for internet browsing, you may want to go back in and uncheck the Display all websites in Compatibility View box as this enables the full Microsoft sanctioned multimedia experience. You could also just use another browser for the internet, like Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari and save IE for this CD only. Just understand that this CD is a legacy product and wont work with Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc; so if any of these are set as your default browser, you have to manually open the default.htm in IE.
