P re fa c e
This preface, as well as all footnotes and annexes, is included for information purposes and is not part of ANSI/ISA-60079-27 (12.02.04)-2006. This document has been prepared as part of the service of ISA toward a goal of uniformity in the field of instrumentation. To be of real value, this document should not be static but should be subject to periodic review. Toward this end, the Society welcomes all comments and criticisms and asks that they be addressed to the Secretary, Standards and Practices Board; ISA; 67 Alexander Drive; P. O. Box 12277; Research Triangle Park, NC 27709; Telephone (919) 549-8411; Fax (919) 5498288; E-mail: standards@isa.org. The ISA Standards and Practices Department is aware of the growing need for attention to the metric system of units in general, and the International System of Units (SI) in particular, in the preparation of instrumentation standards. The Department is further aware of the benefits to USA users of ISA standards of incorporating suitable references to the SI (and the metric system) in their business and professional dealings with other countries. Toward this end, this Department will endeavor to introduce SI-acceptable metric units in all new and revised standards, recommended practices, and technical reports to the greatest extent possible. Standard for Use of the International System of Units (SI): The Modern Metric System, published by the American Society for Testing & Materials as IEEE/ASTM SI 10-97, and future revisions, will be the reference guide for definitions, symbols, abbreviations, and conversion factors. It is the policy of ISA to encourage and welcome the participation of all concerned individuals and interests in the development of ISA standards, recommended practices, and technical reports. Participation in the ISA standards-making process by an individual in no way constitutes endorsement by the employer of that individual, of ISA, or of any of the standards, recommended practices, and technical reports that ISA develops. ANSI/ISA-60079-27 (12.02.04)-2006

Scope

This part of IEC 60079 standard contains the details of apparatus, systems and installation practice for use with the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept (FISCO) for installation and use in Class I, Zones 0 and 1 and the Fieldbus Non-Incendive Concept (FNICO) for installation and use in Class I, Zone 2. It is based on the concepts of Manchester encoded, bus powered systems designed in accordance with IEC 61158-2 which is the physical layer standard for Fieldbus installations. The constructional and installation requirements of FISCO and FNICO apparatus and systems are determined by ANSI/ISA60079-11 and ANSI/ISA-60079-15 IEC 6007911, IEC 60079-14, IEC 60079-15 and IEC 60079-25, except as modified by this standard. Part of a Fieldbus device may be protected by any of the methods of explosion protection listed in ANSI/ISA-60079-0 suitable for the application IEC 60079-0, appropriate to the Zone of intended use. In these circumstances, the requirements of this standard apply only to that part of the apparatus directly connected to the intrinsically safe or non-incendive trunk or spurs.
NOTE 1 Certification to the FISCO requirements does not prevent apparatus also being certified and marked to IEC 60079-11 ANSI/ISA-60079-11 in the conventional manner so that they may be used in other systems. Some apparatus certified before this standard was published but not necessarily complying with the electrical parameters of this standard may be marked Suitable for FISCO systems. This apparatus may be accepted in a FISCO system, if the comparison of the electrical parameters U , I , P , with U , I , P , demonstrate compatibility with the remainder of the oo o ii i system, and all the other requirements of this standard are met. NOTE 2 A typical system is illustrated in Clause 10. NOTE 3 Generally, FNICO systems are intended for use in Zone 2 locations. FISCO systems are predominantly intended for use in Zone 1 and 2 locations, but may enter Zone 0 locations if specifically permitted to do so by the Control Drawing documentation. NOTE 4 This standard uses the IEC designations (Uo, Io, Po etc.) for electrical parameters through out, however, either the ISA markings, the IEC markings, or both, as shown in Table 12.3, of ANSI/ISA-60079-11 may be used to designate electrical circuit parameters on the apparatus and in the installation documents and control drawing. NOTE 5 This standard is for apparatus for use in a Class I Zone 0, 1 or 2 hazardous (classified) location but the principles contained may be used for examination of apparatus for use in Class I, Divisions 1 and 2 as permitted by 501.5 of the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70.

Marking FISCO marking

Each piece of apparatus shall be marked with the word "FISCO" followed by an indication of its function, i.e. power supply, field device or terminator. In addition, each piece of apparatus shall be marked in accordance with ANSI/ISA-60079-11 IEC 60079-11, except where modified by this standard. For example, the manufacturers name and address must still be marked. Where apparatus is dual marked so that it can be used in both a FISCO system and a conventional intrinsically safe system, care shall be taken to differentiate between the FISCO marking and the marking for the intrinsically safe system. The marking of apparatus for use in either a FISCO system or a conventional intrinsically safe system shall differentiate between the FISCO marking and the marking for the intrinsically safe system. For FISCO power supplies, output parameters Uo, Io, Co, Lo, Po and Lo/Ro need not be marked. For FISCO field devices or terminators, input and internal parameters Ui, Ii, Ci, Li, Pi and Li/Ri need not be marked. 8.2 FNICO marking

Each piece of apparatus shall be marked with the word "FNICO" followed by an indication of its function, i.e. power supply, field device or terminator. In addition, each piece of apparatus shall be marked in accordance with ANSI/ISA-60079-15 IEC 60079-15, except where modified by this standard. The marking of apparatus for use in either a FNICO system or a conventional nonincendive field wiring system shall differentiate between the FNICO marking and the marking for the nonincendive field wiring. For FNICO power supplies, output parameters Uo, Io, Co, Lo, Po and Lo/Ro need not be marked. For FNICO field devices or terminators, input and internal parameters Ui, Ii, Ci, Li, Pi and Li/Ri need not be marked. 9 9.1 Examples of marking Examples of FISCO marking FISCO power supply Um: 250 V [AEx ia] IIC John Jones Ltd SW99 2AJ UK Type: DRG OOI 20 C < Ta < +50 C
