7. Police Report

D. Glaister Introduced Insp. Crossby. Generally very good, most offences on decline. Stealing from Motor Vehicles - Slight reduction Areas/times: Stockland, Burleigh beachfront. Mondays 4-8am and evening. 40% are numberplates. Burglary: 6 in ten weeks, fairly good. All units. Got offender from 1st ave just before xmas. Sneak offence where person didnt lock door. Break Enter Shops: Bit of an issue. Connor St, James St, GC Highway. Suspects under investigation. Unlawful use of Motor Vehicle: Slight increase Armed Robbery: Very Good 1 in period in James St Westpac. No weapon sighted. CIB interviewing suspects. Assault: Only 3 in 10 weeks. 1 was lady abusing child in st, one between tradies which was withdrawn. No serious assaults. Traffic Ops: GC Highway/ Talle over weekend 29 drivers Drink Driving, fairly high. As well as Drug Dogs: 7 offenders.

1. POLICE BEAT: C. SMITH: Letter sent around about stage 1 of consultation. Stage 2 will begin on March 5. According to letter site

identified is preferred. Consultation does not tell police where to put it. Advertised in local media. Maximum of three cars. 6 officers. Lock up to be included Short term holding but not overnight D. CROSSBY: transferred from Townsville where they have similar facility and issues. Very similar model. 1 vehicle and offroad vehicle (Rhino) Significant impact on hooning and public drunkenness. Feedback has been nothing but positive. Whatever facility Government provides will be used to benefit of community. Q? Why access only has one entry as only one access down Burleigh RD? A:Pedestrian access and 1 car doesnt see issue with access MARGIE SUGGESTED NEW PRESENTATION SIMILAR TO INITIAL Q? How long been operating in Townsville? A: 6 years Q (M HART:) Problem arising is that C SMITH sent out letter saying that no other site had dual access. A: C SMITH "Facility has smaller use of area than lifeguard as far as access goes its about leaving via Hayle or Goodwin or Hayle." D CROSSBY: Facility to use foot, bike and rhino. D GLAISTER (In response to issues regarding access and traffic) If police are there and need to get out quickly they will get out. Q? Compared with how area was last year has been under control. Why do you need a police beat when area is under control, dont see why it is needed? A: DCROSSBY on major events, facility will boost resources. Crime is cyclical DGLAISTER In big picture most offences down and increase has been in Burleigh Heads area. MHART Expressed view that facility should be located in vacant store in an area such as James St.. Q? Who owns proposed Site? Site is on crown land but held in trust by GCCC.
