Course Contents:
Information security is an active area of research which has gained sufficient momentum in the last two decades because of its application in many fields of Computer science. Advances in Information Security programme offers theory and hands on experience of information & network security using a wide range of tools. The objectives of the course is to establish the state of the art and set the course for future research in information security. The course deals with the fundamentals of cryptograph and the advanced concepts of network security with hands on experience of popular tools such as wireshar and backtrack. Numerous examples and practical hands-on exercises are included in the course. One major topic covered in every lecture, typically consists of a discussion of the basic theoretical concepts and some examples illustrating practical implementations and applications. The course will also give an insight of some major research problems on network security, software exploitations, and security testing. The course will cover theoretical as well as the practical approach of the following topics: Information Security Fundamentals , Number Theory,Introduction to Cryptography Symmetric & Public Key Cryptography,Message Integrity & Authentication Key Management & Entity AuthenticationSecurity at the Application Layer: PGP and S/MIME Security at the Transport Layer: SSL and TLS Security at the Network Layer: IPSec Web Security Wireless Network Security Ethical Hacking Tools: backtrack, wireshark Course Delivery Professors and Experts from IIT Kharagpur, NIT Rourkela, IMS Chennai, NISER Bhubaneswar, Utkal University and IIIT Bhubaneswar having immense experience in the field shall present the topics of the course. There will be interactive discussion on research directions in information security related topics with the participants. Eligibility for Participants: The programme is open to the teachers of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved engineering colleges working in the concerned/allied discipline. The number of seats is limited to 20. Therefore, interested faculty members should apply well within the scheduled deadline i.e., 20 April 2012. TA for Participants: The participants are entitled to avail return III AC train fare. The reimbursement of TA will be made as per AICTE guidelines such as production of necessary travel documents. Accommodation: Accommodation for participants shall be arranged in the Institutes Guest House/Hotel. Registration There is no registration fee for the faculty members of AICTE approved institutions as the course is fully sponsored by the (AICTE), New Delhi. However, as a matter of confirmation for participation in the course, a refundable caution money of Rs.300/- in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of IIIT Bhubaneswar payable at Bhubaneswar is to be sent to the coordinator on or before 20 April 2012
