As the opening participant, YOU are free to set the parameters for the discussion. The position paper should be brief (one paragraph), informative, and easy to understand. Keep it short One page including research links. Remember, the three key points for your solutions are that they have to be (i) effective, (ii) protect everyones interests, and (iii) international co-operation. GUIDELINE Introduction: Outline how you approach the problem; set parameters and make it specific. For example, if youre dealing with environment, tell us what the problem is and why you are addressing it. Solution: Give us a brief suggestion for solution. Take into account international co-operation, international legislation, how your solution might impact the economy, environment or society of your country or of your neighbors. If your solution has any negative impact or obstacle, present a way to overcome it or compensate. For example, if your measure to prevent overfishing hurts the livelihood of local fishermen, how do you plan to address it. Need: Tell everyone upfront what you need. What will your solution require, and whose help would you need? Consider help with regulation, expertise, equipment, finance etc. Joint ventures are good, but you will have to plan them properly! Be specific, if you need money, or equipment, do some research and get an estimated budget. Research: Now we can start!
