IN-PIT CRUSHING PROJECT CHUQUICAMATA MINE CODELCO (Corporacin National del Cobre) is the largest mining company in Chile

and the mine which it operates at Chuquicamata in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile is one of the largest copper mines in the world. The mine is located approx. 3000 m above sea-level and covers an area of 4,5 x 3 km and has a depth of approx. 600 m. In 1990 the annual production was 681.000 t of pure copper. For this result 55.000.000 tons copper ore and 145.000.000 tons waste had to be handled. In December 1987 CODELCO signed a contract with Krupp Frdertechnik and Mitsubishi Corporation for the supply of a turnkey in-pit crushing system for overburden. This system consisted of an in-pit crushing plant, belt conveyor plant and spreader with tripper car. Krupp Frdertechnik was the technical leader and responsible for the material handling system with spreader, tripper car, transport crawler, major part of crushing plant, complete engineering and electrical part etc.. The main data of the supplied plant are: Annual capacity: Nominal capacity: 41 Mio tons 9600 t/h Total inst. power: Total weight: 30.000 kW 12.000 t
