Overview
INTRODUCTION

This course is the next generation of the ANCDA course which replaces ANCDA 8.0 7-Mode and ANCDA 7.3. This course requires Linux/Unix (client NFS v3), 1 storage system (either 7.3.x, 8.0 7-Mode, or 8.0.1 7-Mode as either virtual or real hardware), and 1 Windows box in the Kit. Optionally, this course could be configured with an additional kit and storage systems between the kits in a High-availability (HA) or active-active controller configuration. We do not require FC in this course.

Accessing the Systems and Infrastructure information

Students access the lab systems from the classroom workstation via Remote Desktop to their respective assigned Windows 2008 R2 server. The student local Windows machine should have Remote Desktop Connection on the users desktop. Once logged into their remote Windows 2008 R2 server they can ssl (using Putty) to the NetApp storage systems and the Red Hat system.

Specific Configuration Requirements

NETAPP STORAGE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
The following Data ONTAP configuration steps will be done on all NetApp storage systems. 2.1 Setup Data ONTAP If you are using real hardware, all NetApp storage systems should be configured with either 7.3, freshly installed Data ONTAP 8.0 7-Mode or 8.0.1 RC3 7-Mode with up-to-date firmware. The initial setup script should be run. To perform a fresh install, complete the following steps: 1. If the storage system is at Data ONTAP 7.3, then upgrade (using software update command) to Data ONTAP 8.0.1 7-Mode. Data ONTAP 8.0.1 7-Mode should now be the primary OS on the CF card. 2. Reboot the system and enter the boot menu by pressing Control-C and the appropriate moment in the boot sequence. 3. Select option 4 to initialize all disks. Confirm the operation. 4. Run through Setup with the Data ONTAP 8.0.1 7-Mode on the CF card. 5. Install Data ONTAP 8.0.1 7-Mode using software update command. If you are using 7.3.x simulators, the simulator maybe installed in an active-active controller configuration with at least 14 disks of at least 104,857,600 bytes (100 MB). If you are using 8.0.x 7-Mode vsims, setup the vsim as normal with at least 14 disks of at least 104,857,600 bytes (100 MB). NOTE: These are the high-level steps and are not complete steps for all environments. 2.2 Verify SNMP is Enabled Verify SNMP is enabled. If it is not, turn it on via the options. This is required for System Manager 2.0. 2.3 Verify SSL and SSH is Enabled Verify SSL is enabled. If it is not, turn it on by executing the secureadmin setup ssl command. Verify SSH is enabled. If it is not, turn it on by executing the secureadmin setup ssh command. This is required for System Manager 2.0.

STUDENT WINDOWS SERVER 2008 CONFIGURATION

The following tasks have to be performed on all Windows 2008 servers in all pods. 3.1 Windows Platform Install Windows Server 2008 R2. Disable the Initial Configuration Task window so it doesnt show at logon. Disable the Server Manager window so it doesnt show at logon. 3.2 Ethernet and Internet Configuration Setup two interfaces with IP addresses and ensure that they are properly cabled and enabled. Open IE and walk through the Set Up Windows Internet Explorer 8 wizard. You might: turn off suggested sites and use the default express settings. From Server Manager, I would click on Configure IE Enhanced Security Configuration (ESC) and turn of ESC for administrators. Enable Remote desktop as well. 3.3 Verify Files The configuration folder _files\ANCDA\ should be placed at the root of the C drive. 3.4 Install the .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features Open Server Manager. Click on Features in the left pane. Select the link Add Features in the main pane. The Add Features Wizard should appear. Select the .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features. Accept the Add Required Role Services. Click Next in the Select Features dialog. Click Next in the Web Service (IIS). Click Next in the Select Role Service. Click Next in the Confirm Installation Selections. After installation is complete, close the Add Features Wizard by clicking the Close button. 3.5 Add the Windows machine to the Windows domain Configure the student Windows machine to be part of the Windows domain. NOTE: The Windows Domain Controller is shared among all pods within the exercise environment. 3.6 Verify Shortcuts The putty file, the command prompt shortcut, and the shortcut to C:\_files\ANCDA (named ANCDA class files) should be on the desktop of the domain administrators account. NOTE: The domain administrator is the only account the students actively login. 3.7 System Manager 2.0 and the Windows Firewall This course uses System Manager 2.0 which requires access through the Windows Firewall. Please disable the Windows Firewall by disabling the Public and Private profiles.
