Travel with the Friends by charter bus to visit the American Art Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the new MLK, Jr. National Memorial. Well spend the night in Alexandria, VA, then tour Mount Vernon on Sunday before returning to Morgantown. June 2 3, 2012 The tour includes: Chartered bus transportation Museum admission Two lunches The tour DOES NOT include: Dinner on Saturday, June 2 Breakfast on Sunday, June 3 Hotel (see below)

Friends are responsible for booking accommodations at the Hilton Alexandria, where a block of rooms is reserved under the Friends of the Art Museum at a discounted rate of approx. $155/night (including tax) for a double room. This event is open to Friends members only. Cost: Approx. $150 per person + cost of hotel room (based on double occupancy) (The cost is based on minimum of 25 participants but may be less, depending on the number of participants.) Saturday, June 2: Depart Morgantown in the morning via charter bus to Washington, D.C. Our first stop is the American Art Museum to view the exhibition African American Art: Harlem, Renaissance, Civil Rights Era, and Beyond, which features 100 works of art by Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, Thorton Dial, Jr. and 40 other black artists. Next, well visit the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden where Chinese artist Ai Weiweis monumental outdoor installation showcases twelve 10-foot-tall bronze animal heads representing the signs of the Chinese zodiac. Then well visit the recently opened Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. From there, the bus will take us to Alexandria, VA. Our hotel, the Hilton Alexandria, is located on King Street in historic Old Town, near the Torpedo Factory Art Center, which features artist studios and galleries. Dinner is on your own in one of the nearby restaurants in Old Town. Sunday, June 3: In the morning well visit Mount Vernon, the plantation home of George Washington, take a guided tour of the house and stroll the grounds. After a two-course luncheon at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant, we will depart for Morgantown, arriving in the early evening hours. To RSVP for this event: 1.
