4 Ways to Identify of a non-Christian cult (adding, subtracting, multiplying, & dividing) God recognizes Christians as those who are

filled with His Holy Spirit and keep His Word. The Bible says there is one God. Jesus is the Way, the Truth , and the Life, no one can come to the Father, except through Him. Jesus is God revealed in the flesh. We have grace through faith, and this is not by our own works, but by the completed work of Jesus Christ on the cross who paid the full penalty for our sins. Here is a way to help recognize a Pseud o-Christian group or counterfeit Christianity based on the definition provi ded by the book called, "The Concise Guide to Today's Religions and Spiritu ality," by James K. Walker. _____________________________________ [Addition - Pseudo-Christian groups often add to Scripture, either by intro ducing additional works of the canon of Scripture (ex: the Book of Mormon), receiving additional "revelations" from God (ex: the apocalyptic revelatio ns of David Koresh), or declaring that the Bible cannot be understood apart from the indispensable literature or teachings of their group (ex: the rel iance of the Jehovah's Witnesses upon the literature from the Watchtower So ciety). See Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18 Subtraction - Pseudo-Christian groups subtract from the humanity of Christ (ex: the gnostic heresy) or the deity of Christ, either through Arian denia l of his deity(ex: the Jehovah's Witnesses) or by claiming that all humans are either gods or united with God (ex: New Age devotees who attempt to ach ieve a Christ-consciousness). See 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Multiplication - Pseudo-Christian groups multiply the requirements for salvat ion, teaching that Christ's atoning work on the cross and resurrection is not sufficient. Good works, law keeping, and earning favor are also required for one to receive eternal life -rather than salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone (ex: the sabbatarian groups who required observance of the Jewi sh Sabbaths, dietary laws, tithingetc... as preconditions for receiving eter nal life). See Galatians 1:6-8, Galatians 2:16 Division - Pseudo-Christian groups often divide their followers' loyalties b y teaching that one cannot be loyal to God without being loyal to their lead er, group, or organization. This characteristic, sometimes called the "only true church," syndrome leads followers to believe that there is no salvation outside of that organization or leader. This creates another mediator betwe en God and men, besides Jesus. This condition often results in the worst kin

d of spiritual abuse, as followers feel they must stay and endure whatever t he group demands because there is no salvation elsewhere. See 1 Timothy 2:5.] - The segment in brackets, is written by Watchman Fellowship http://www.watchman.org/articles/cults-alternative-religions/patterns-in-thecults/
