A switched-mode power supply is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator in order to be highly efficient in the conversion of electrical power. Like other types of power supplies. The conventional method is the use of a step-down transformer to reduce the 230 V AC to a desired level of low voltage AC. The most suitable and low cost method is the use of a switching mode power supply.

Brief Description
Our design is divided into different blocks. First of all we receive the input voltage of approximately 210-230 Volts and a fuse is connected for the protection of the later circuit and from there it is rectified into unidirectional supply from bidirectional supply and after that switches(chopper)and Magnetic coil or Buck converter are introduced for making it a switching supply. After that filteringis done to remove the ripples and make output smooth.Further in the circuit there is a controller used to control the output as the value entered from the keypad. Chopper and magnetic circuit / coil It takes the input of high voltage DC and then the switching/chopping is done and feed to a magnetic coil which step down the voltage and gives the ac out or pulsating DC.

Buck Converter It is also another method that, we used a buck converter in the circuit. It takes an input of high voltage DC and gives low DC voltage at output for the load.

Controller Here we use controller which controls the output voltage by comparing the value entered from the keypad. After comparing the values it controls the switching of the power supply to give the required voltage. NOTE:we will work onboth the techniques but we implement that technique which is more efficient.

Objective
We need the power supply in almost every electronic device and day by day the size of the devices is also reducing. In order to minimize the size of the power supply, increases the efficiency and make it cheaper. We need to implement a technique to build a transformer-less power supply because cost and weight of transformer is very high which makes power supply costly and heavy too.

Expected Result
We are trying to design a transformer-less power supply with in the range of 50W.

Specifications: Input Voltage Power Output Voltage Current Applications Of The Project There are many applications of the transformer-less power supply but the few are listed below: 1- Personal computers(C.P.U) 2- U.P.S 3- Bio-Medical Equipment's. 4- Telecom Industries. 5- Radars 210-230 V 50W 0~12 V 4~5 A
