Philippe Garner, Christies International Director of 20th Century Decorative Art & Photographs, and the sales auctioneer commented: I am delighted by the excellent outcome of todays auction, which was a thrilling sale to take with tremendous interest coming from so many different directions. I am particularly encouraged by the results achieved by the 71 lots deaccessioned from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which was sold 94% by lot and soared above the collections high estimate, realizing a combined $775,750. Deborah Bell, Christies Specialist Head of Photographs, Americas, remarked: We are very pleased with the results achieved by our Spring Photographs sale. The saleroom saw enthusiastic international bidding, which continues to demonstrate the ever-increasing strength of this category being felt throughout the globe. We are particularly pleased with the sale of Robert Franks, emblematic Trolley - New Orleans, which more than doubled its high estimate when it realized $434,500, the third highest price ever achieved for the artist at auction, speaking to the thriving nature of the market for this artist.
