MADANI FLOWERS OF THE SHAWL
(CHAADAR)

15 MADANI FLOWERS OF THE SHAWL

Read the following booklet in its entirety. Inshaa-Allah J = , - you will cover your Imaama Shareef
with a shawl on a regular basis and enthusiasm will build to read Salaah with it too.

The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ has said, Whoever during the day and the night reads Durood
upon me with love and devotion. It becomes a right upon Allah _ = to forgive the sins for that morning
and night of that individual. (attargheeb wattarheeb, V2, P328)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

BEING DEPRIVED FROM A LOOK OF MERCY
MADINA 1: The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ has said that Allah _ = does not look with mercy
at those who do not keep their Imaama under their shawls during Salaah. (Fatawa-e-Razawiyyah, V7, P299, Al
firdous bima nooril khitaab, V5, P146, Hadith 7773, Dar-ul-Kitaabul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

THE PERSON WHO READS HIS SALAAH WITH HIS IMAAMA COVERED IS HOPEFUL OF
MERCY
MADINA 2: In the light of this Hadith, the scholars have said that what is meant by this is that when reading
Salaah, cover the head with the shawl from the head and have the hope that you will receive the mercy of
Allah _ =.

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

MADINA 3: With the passion of attaining the mercy of Allah _ = by covering the Imaama with the shawl
is no doubt a very big privilege. However, he who does not read Salaah with a shawl, there is no criticism of
him but he who keeps his shawl below his head whilst in Salaah, he has a threat of being deprived of the
mercy of Allah _ =.

MADINA 4: Instead of folding the shawl and covering the ears with it, open it out and cover the head and
take one end i.e. the right shoulders end and put it over the left shoulder. If possible try taking the same end
and putting it back over the right shoulder.

MADINA 5: People of the book during worship do sadal. Sadal is a state when the shawl is put on the head
or shoulders in such a way that both ends are dangling. Other than in Salaah, doing this is Makhrooh-e-
Tanzeehi and during Salaah it is Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi.

MADINA 6: Putting a big handkerchief or shawl in such a fashion that one end is towards the stomach and
the other towards the back is Makhrooh-e-Tanzeehi when not in Salaah and Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi in Salaah.

3

MADINA 7: During Salaah, if the shawl slips off so that it is in sadal (meaning both sides dangling) then
using little action with the movement of the hand i.e. the palm or back of the hand put it right. If the shawl is
in the state of sadal for one maxim meaning the time taken to say ! >, = = three times then the Salaah
becomes Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi.

MADINA 8: If you begin your Salaah in the state of sadal, your Salaah is Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi. Fixing
the shawl does not finish the problem.

MADINA 9: If the ears are covered in the shawl then doing Takbeer-e-Tahreema (saying Allahu Akbar) by
raising both hands close to the shawl and touching the shawl is enough.

HIDING BOTH ARMS IN THE SHAWL?
MADINA 10: Whilst covering the Imaama with the shawl, if both arms are hidden along with the shawl then
there is no harm. Hazrate Sayyiduna Waail bin Hajar -. = =! _ _ says, I once saw the Holy Prophet _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! starting His Salaah and when he , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ said Allahu Akbar, both
hands were raised to the shawl and touched the shawl. He , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ then covered the arms
with the shawl and put the right hand over the left. (Muslim Shareef, Hadith 401, P212-213, Daar Ibn-e-Haram, Beirut)
Hakim-ul-Ummat Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan -, \ = =! - => _ in the commentary of this Hadith says, Due to the
intense cold, the arms were enclosed in the shawl. What we gather is that opening out the arms isnt
necessary in Salaah and covering the arms with the shawl or keeping them hidden is allowed. (Meerat-ul-
Manajeeh, Sharh Mishkaat-ul-Misaabeeh, V2, P18)

MADINA 11: It is Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi to pray Salaah if the hands are covered. (durr-e-Mukhtaar wa rad-dul-
Muhtaar, V1, P438)
By this it is meant that the hands cannot be uncovered. In it stated in Bahar-e-Shariat, (part 3, P140, Madina-tul-
Murshid Bareli) besides Salaah one should not hide the hands in the shawl and when in a place of danger it is
prohibited.

HIDING THE BEARD IN SALAAH
MADINA 12: It is stated in Masnadul Firdous that Hazrate Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas ! __ = \=.=
narrated that the Beloved of Allah , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ _ = once said: Beware! Dont hide your
beard during Salaah as the beard is from the face. (al firdous bima noor-ul-khitaab, V5, P27, Hadith 7702, Dar-ul-
Kitaabul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

HIDING THE MOUTH AND NOSE IN SALAAH
MADINA 13: Covering the Imaama Shareef in such a way that both the mouth and nose are hidden during
Salaah is Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi just as Hazrate Allama Shaami -, \ = =! - => _ says, During Salaah, hiding
the mouth and nose is Makhrooh-e-Tahreemi because it is the way of the fire worshipers as they do this
when worshiping fire. (Rad-dul-Muhtaar, V2, P511, Quetta)

WHEN REARRANGING THE SHAWL, TAKE OTHERS INTO CONSIDERATION
MADINA 14: When in the row for Salaah or in a crowd of people etc. take into consideration the fact that
when arranging the shawl or covering the head with the shawl, the end of the shawl doesnt catch the eye or
hurt someone in any circumstance.
I (Sag-e-Madina -.=_=) have seen during Hajj, in the group of the hujjaaj (pilgrims) the people when
sorting their shawls have on several occasions caught the freshly clean shaven head of a Haji because of a
lack of consideration and the helpless Haji is left trapped by the shawl.
Whoevers head gets trapped and they a muhrim (person in ihram), a kaffarah (penance) becomes
necessary upon them. Even if the head is freed straight away, the Sadqa-e-Fitr quantity has to be given so

4

2kg 50g wheat, its flour or its price should be given as charity to a beggar or a poor person. If the kaffarah is
not given then the person is a sinner. However, if the shawl does touch but not stay on the head, there is no
kaffarah.

MADINA 15: If during Salaah the shawl slips off the head then without hesitation and with little action (i.e.
with the movement of the hand) put it on the head as in the state of Salaah, having the shawl below the head
or on the shoulders is Makhrooh-e-Tanzeehi.

31 MADANI FLOWERS

COVERING THE HEAD WITH THE SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF THE PROPHET
-\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \
, \ =

MADINA 1: Besides Salaah, keeping the shawl beneath the head has no consequence. On regular occasions
to put it over the head is a beautiful Sunnah. As Hazrate Sayyiduna Anas bin Maalik -. = =! _ _ says that
The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ would regularly keep the blessed head covered with the shawl.
(fathul bari, V8, P200, Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut, at tosheeh Sharh Bukhari lisyooti, V6, P2452 Maktaba-tul-Murshid,
Riyadh)

MADINA 2: Hazrate Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas -. = =! _ _ says: One day the Holy Prophet =! _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . came to us with their blessed head covered. (Masnad Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, marwiyaat
Abdullah ibne Abbas, Hadith 2629, V1, P621, Dar-ul-Fikr Beirut)

THE ARAB CAMEL TRAVELLER
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \

MADINA 3: Hazrate Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar -. = =! _ _ narrates that The Holy Prophet _\\ . =! _ \
-\! -, \ = , \ = once had his blessed head covered with shawl and at that time he travelling on a camel. (Sahih Al
Bukhari, V2, P432, Hadith 3380, Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

THE HOLY PROPHET
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \

IS COMING
MADINA 4: Hazrat Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa \ . = =! _ _ says we were in our homes in the afternoon
sitting in the heat when someone mentioned to Hazrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique -. = =! _ _: Look,
its the Prophet of Allah =! _ \ _ = , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . coming with his blessed head covered with a
shawl. (Sahih Al Bukhari, V4, P54, Hadith 5807, Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

MADINA 5: The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ has said: Covering the head with the shawl during
the day is protection and covering it in the night is beauty. (Ashia-tul-lamaat, V3, P573 Kuetah)

MADINA 6: Covering with the shawl is the clothing of the Arabs and covering the head is the clothing of the
believers. (ibid)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

MADANI NARRATIVE
MADINA 7: Hazrat Sayyiduna Jabir (radi allahu taala anhu) has narrated that The Holy Prophet =! _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . said: For 1 month I was secluded in the mountain of Hira. When the month had ended I
was given a call. I looked back and forth, right and left but I didnt see anyone! When I looked up I saw
Jibraeel , > =\! -, \ = sat on a throne. On seeing this I was overcome with fear and went to Khadijah =! _ _
\ . = and said to her to cover me with a blanket. She \ . = =! _ _ covered me with the blanket and Allah
_ = revealed this verse:

Translation Kanzul-Iman: Oh the mantled one! (Para 29, Sura Mudassir, Verse 1)

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 257, P97, Dar ibne Hazm, Beirut)

My Dear Islamic Brothers! It is a custom amongst the Arabs that when showing love towards someone
whatever state they are in, they take a name or title and address them with that name.

HOW THE NAME ABU TURAAB WAS GIVEN
MADINA 8: Hazrate Sayyiduna Ali -. = =! _ _ and the princess of the worlds Hazrate Sayyidatuna Fatima
\ . = =! _ _ once had a disagreement with each other and Hazrate Ali -. = =! _ _ became upset and went
to the Masjid and lied down next to the interior wall. The Prophet =! _ \ , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . came looking
for him and saw that he -. = =! _ _ was asleep. The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ noticed that the
shawl covering the body of Hazrate Ali -. = =! _ _ had slightly moved from one part and a bit of dust from
the ground was on the blessed body. Whilst removing the dust, the most Merciful Prophet -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \
, \ = -\! was saying _! _ . \ , ! \, , ! _! _ . \ , ! \, , ! meaning get up oh dusty one, get up oh dusty one. (Sahih
Bukhari, V1, P4169, Hadith 441, Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

!\= . \, ,
MADINA 9: Similarly, Hazrate Sayyiduna Huzaifa ( -. = =! _ _ was asleep when The Holy Prophet =! _ \
! -, \ = _\\ . , \ = -\ came and said \= . \, , ! meaning get up oh sleepy one! (Sahih Muslim, P988, Hadith 1788 Dar
ibne Hazm, Beirut) So these are the names and titles of loved ones and because the Beloved of Allah _ =
-, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ , \ = -\! had his blessed head covered, the relation of this beautiful act to Allah _ = lead
to Hazrate Jibraeel , > =\! -, \ = calling upon the Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ :

_ . . =\!\ , \, 0

Translation Kanzul-Iman: Oh the mantled one! (Para 29, Sura Mudassir, Verse 1)

_\ = _\\ . =! _ \ . = > = _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

THE MEMORY GIFTED IN THE SHAWL
MADINA 10: Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ says that I asked: Ya Rasoolallah _ \ _ =
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! I often hear Hadith from you but I forget them. On hearing this, The Holy Prophet _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! said: Oh Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ open out your shawl. Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu
Huraira -. = =! _ _ says: I opened out my shawl and the Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ put something
in the shawl with his beautiful hands and said Oh Abu Huraira pick this up and put it to your chest. I did
so and after that i have never forgotten anything. (Sahih Bukhari, V1, P62, Hadith 119, Dar-ul-Kutubul
Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !
CAT KEEPING COMPANION
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 11: My Dear Islamic brothers! We find out that in the hands of The Messenger of Allah _ =
_ \ , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! is the treasure of both worlds, in this world and the hereafter. Every type of wealth
both apparent and hidden, whether we see them or we dont and this wealth is gifted by The Holy Prophet
, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ , \ = -\! - with the will of Allah _ =. This is why when Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Huraira

6

-. = =! _ _ asked, the Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ gifted the memory by putting something in the
shawl with their blessed hands. What can one say about the gift given by the blessed hands of Prophet _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =!. The memory of Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ became so strong that he
never forgot anything after that. Many ulema have said that the name of Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Huraira
-. = =! _ _ was Abdur Rahman bin Sakhardosi Tamaimi. He -. = =! _ _ would keep a small cat and once
The Holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ saw a small cat in his sleeve and said _, _ = \,! \, meaning oh
small cat keeper. From then the name became so famous and popular that hardly anyone knows the name
Abdur Rahman. Hirr means male cat and hirrah means female cat and huraira is a dimunition of
hirrah meaning small and cute cat. Hazrate Sayyiduna Imam Shafiee -, \ = =! - => _ says that amongst the
people of his time, Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ was the biggest Hafiz of Hadith. Hence it is a unanimous
decision of the Muhaditheen _ = = ; =! that out of the blessed companions ,\= ; \! ;~, ! Q , Hazrate Sayyiduna
Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ has narrated the most Hadith. He -. = =! _ _ has narrated 5364 Hadith of the
Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ and Hazrate Sayyiduna Sheikh Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismaeel al
maroof Imam Bukhari -, \ = =! - => _ has stated 418 of them. (mulakhas az tafheemul Bukhari, V1, P88, Faisalabad)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

IT IS A SUNNAH TO KEEP A PATCHED SHAWL
MADINA 12: Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Huraira -. = =! _ _ narrates that Hazrate Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa
\ . = =! _ _ took out and showed us a patched shawl and a tehband (a cloth worn around the waist, a
sarong) and said, The Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ passed from this world in these two cloths. (Sahih
Bukhari, V4, P77, Hadith 5818, Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)
It is apparent from this hadith that the Prophet , \ = _\\ . =! _ \ , \ = -\! - spent time on this world with
humbleness and when travelling to the Hereafter, was dressed in humble and simple clothes.

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

THE BENEFIT OF SIMPLE CLOTHES
MADINA 13: The followers of the fashion of the non-believers, those who dress in perfect prepared clothes,
those who have cutting edge designs and follow the current day trends, if you were to adopt simpleness you
would be successful in both worlds; hence read the benefit of wearing simple clothes and be overjoyed:
The Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ has said, Whoever despite having the power to wear good clothes
and doesnt due to humbleness, Allah _ = will cloth him with the clothes of Heaven. (Abu Daood, Hadith
4778, V4, P326, Dar Ihya atturaasul Arabi, Beirut)

FASHION WORSHIPPERS BEWARE!
MADINA 14: My Dear Islamic brothers! Be overjoyed! He has the money, wearing top brand clothes is in
his power but for the pleasure of Allah _ =, he adopts humbleness and wears simple clothes, he will wear
the clothes of Heaven and it is obvious that he who will wear the clothes of Heaven will almost certainly
enter Heaven. He who puts across an inspiring presence to people to show his wealth and purely to show his
ego to people he adopts prominent showy clothes should read the following and be grieved:
Hazrate Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar -. = =! _ _ narrates that the Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ said,
He who wore clothes of dignity in this world, Allah _ = will cloth with him garments of shame and
embarrassment on the day of judgement. (Sunan Ibn-e-Majah, Hadith 3606, V4, P163, Dar-ul-Marifah, Beirut)

WHAT ARE CLOTHES OF DIGNITY?
MADINA 15: Hazrate Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan -, \ = =! - => _ says in the commentary of the previous Hadith
that wearing clothes that people think of you as a rich person or wearing clothes that people think you are
very good and forbearing both are clothes of dignity. In brief, clothes worn with the intention that people

7

will respect the individual are clothes of dignity. The writer of Mirqaat has said that wearing clothes
purposefully at which people will laugh are also clothes of dignity.
(mulakhas az meraah, V6, P109)

AN INVITING THOUGHT TO THOSE WHO WEAR HIGH QUALITY CLOTHES
MADINA 16: My Dear Islamic brothers! No doubt it is a difficult test but there is great need to draw
attention when wearing clothes and staying away from showing off. Those people who wear attractive or top
quality clothes, wear shawls or Imaamay with embossed ends and good stiff material, wear wonderful
framed glasses or coloured lenses, those who have expensive branded watches, wear expensive slippers and
beautiful footwear etc. should think 101 times whether you are wearing the clothes for dignity and so people
will become impressed by them. In a similar manner, those who wear simple clothes, i.e. Imaamay and
shawls so people will think he is a good person he too is a show off and is doing a deal of great loss. We ask
for sincerity from Allah _ =.

A MOMENT OF THOUGHT FOR THOSE WHO KEEP CHANGING FASHION
MADINA 17: Those who change fashion daily, those who because the fashion has changed or the clothes
have become a little old or will have to patch clothes see their clothes as junk, read the following narration
time and time again:

MADINA 18: Abu Umaama Iyaas bin Salaba -. = =! _ _ has narrated that the Prophet -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \
, \ = once said, Dont you listen? Dont you listen? For clothes to become old is from Imaan (faith), no
doubt for clothes to become old is from Imaan. (Sunan-e-Abi Daood, Hadith 4161, V4, P102, Dar Ihya atturaasul
Arabi, Beirut)

MADINA 19: From this narration, Hazrate Sayyiduna Shah Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dhelvi -, \ = =! - => _ says,
To discard beauty is from the character of the believers (Ahle imaan). (ashiatul lamaat, V3, P585 Kuetah)

YEMENI SHAWL
MADINA 20: Hazrate Sayyiduna Anas -. = =! _ _ narrates that the most merciful Prophet -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \
\ = -\! , in his last days before the departure from this world was supported by Hazrate Sayyiduna Usama
-. = =! _ _ walking out of his sacred house covered with a Yemeni shawl. (sharhus Sunnah, V6, P160, Dar-ul-
Kutubul Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

Hazrate Sayyiduna Anas bin Maalik -. = =! _ _ narrates that The Messenger of Allah _\\ . =! _ \ _ =
, \ = -\! -, \ = out of all shawls preferred to cover themselves with a Habirah shawl (a cotton edged Yemeni
shawl). (shama-alul-Tirmizi ma Jami Tirmizi, Hadith 63, Dar-ul-Fikr, Beirut)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF THE PROPHETS
;>~-;)---

MADINA 21: Hazrate Sayyiduna Imam Abdur Raoof Manaavi ! - => _ -, \ = = states in Sharh-e-Shamail
Tirmizi, To cover the head with the shawl is from the practices of the Prophets ,\= ; >=\! ; . (hashiya shamail-
e-Tirmizi ma jamul-wasail, V1, P319, Noor Muhammad Kaar Khanah tajaarat kutub, Karachi)

=! _ \ . = > = _\ = _\\ . _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF SIDDIQUE-E-AKBAR
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 22: Covering the head with the shawl is a Sunnah of the blessed companions Q;~,-;)--- hence
Ibn-e-Asaakar narrates that the holy Prophet , \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! _ \ was on the blessed mimbar (pulpit)

8

and the companions Q;~,-;)--- were sat beneath and Hazrate Sayyiduna Abu Bakr -. = =! _ _ was sat
amongst them with his head covered with a shawl. (sharhul alamah azarqaani alal mawahib, V6, P310 Dar-ul-Kutubul
Ilmiyyah, Beirut)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF FAROOQ-E-AZAM
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 23: Ibn-e-Asaakar narrates that Hazrate Sayyiduna Umar -. = =! _ _ during his caliphate had his
head covered with a shawl on Eid day. (sharhul alamah azarqaani alal mawahib, V6, P310 Dar-ul-Kutubul Ilmiyyah,
Beirut)

= > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ . _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !
COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF USMAN-E-GHANI
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 24: Hazrat Sayyiduna Ahnaf bin Qais -. = =! _ _ says, We saw people were gathered in between
the Masjid and amongst them were Hazrate Sayyiduna Ali, Hazrate Sayyiduna Zubair, Hazrate Sayyiduna
Talha and Hazrate Sayyiduna Sad bin Abi Waqaas ! __ = ,.= when Hazrate Sayyiduna Usman-e-Ghani
-. = =! _ _ came with a yellow shawl covering his blessed head. (sunan nisaai al jizul saadis, P36, Dar-al-Jeel,
Beirut)

MADINA 25: Hazrate Sayyiduna Murrah bin kab -. = =! _ _ says that the Beloved of Allah _ \ _ =
, \ = -\! -, \ = _\\ . =! was telling us news of the unseen and was describing an upcoming rebellion that was
going to take place when a man with his head covered with a shawl approached and the Prophet _\\ . =! _ \
, \ = -\! -, \ = explained that this man will be on the right path on that day. When I went to look at the man it
was none other than Sayyiduna Usman-e-Ghani -. = =! _ _. (bitagayr qaleel Masnad Imam Ahmad, Hadith 18582,
V6, P307, Dar-ul-Fikr, Beirut)

In this narration what is meant by the rebellion are the events of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Usman-e-
Ghani -. = =! _ _.

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF HAZRATE ALI
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 26: Hazrate Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Saeed bin Yarboo . = =! _ _ - narrates that once
Hazrate Ali -. = =! _ _ came to us with his head covered with a shawl. (at tabakaatul kubra, V2, P312, Daar-e-
Sadar Beirut)

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF THE BLESSED COMPANIONS
Q;~,-;)---

MADINA 28: Hazrate Sayyiduna Qais bin Abi Hazim =! _ _ -. = says that Hazrate Abdullah bin Masood
-. = =! _ _ came to us with his head covered with a shawl.

9

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

MADINA 29: Hazrate Kaseer bin Sad -. = =! _ _ says that once Hazrate Amru bin Aswad -. = =! _ _
came of out his house with a shawl covering his head. (al haadul masaani, V5, P302, Dar-ul-Raaya Riyadh)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

COVERING THE HEAD WITH A SHAWL IS A SUNNAH OF GHOUS-E-AZAM
-. = =! _ _

MADINA 30: Covering the head with the shawl is a sunnat of Ghous-e-Azam -. = =! _ _ too. Further it is
stated that Ghous-e-Azam -. = =! _ _ used the shawl very often and would frequently cover his head with it
too. (ashia tul lamaat, V3, P573, Kuetah)

. = > = _\ = _\\ . =! _ \ _,, >\! _ \ = ! \ !

THE BENEFITS OF COVERING THE HEAD
WITH A SHAWL
MADINA 31: Hazrate Sayyiduna Imam Abdur Raoof Manaavi -, \ = =! - => _ says that in one narration it
states that the one who covers the head with a shawl gathers meaning in his speech and understanding. There
are many other benefits attributed to the covering of the head with the shawl, some are as follows:

a) It rectifies both the outside and inside. It builds fear and shame of Allah _ = as it is a sign of a fugitive
slave who has no helper or friend and is scared.
b) Whoever covers his head with a shawl on a regular basisd will be able to think and contemplate a lot (one
moment in the thought of the Hereafter is better than a years worth of worship (Kanzul Ummal, V3, P109, Hadith
5711))
c) For the one who covers the head with the shawl, all types of bad things will be freed from him and his
courage & determination will stay committed.
d) The persons heart will be drawn to Allah _ =
e) This persons heart will always be on the right thought and will be immersed in the remembrance of
Allah _ =
f) The person who covers his head with the shawl, every part of him will stay away from the disobedience
of Allah _ = and wrong feelings. All these qualities that are received (for covering the head with a shawl)
are qualities of people with very high status within Islam and are of those people who fear Allah _ =. For
this reason, the pious people =;)-= called the act of covering the head with the shawl Khalwat-e-Sughra
