STORY TELLING CONTEST ENGLISH ACTION DAYS 2012

Story Telling is one of the contests in English Action Day 2012. This contest is held to develop all participants ability in revealing their creativity and expression through telling a story using English Language. Through the contest, we expect that all the participants can improve their speaking skills in English Language

A. Definition of Story Telling Competition Storytelling is the art of using language, vocalization, and/or physical movement and gesture to reveal the elements and images of a story to a specific, live audience. A central, unique aspect of storytelling is its reliance on the audience to develop specific visual imagery and detail to complete and co-create the story. Story Telling Competition is a competition in which participants using their abilities to use language, vocalization, and physical movement and gesture to reveal or interpret the elements and images of a story to a specific, live audience, so the audience can have a visual imagery and detail to complete and co-create the story.

B. Theme Theme for Qualification Round 1. Qualification Round will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012. 2. The Theme of Qualification Round is You Gotta See Beyond What You Can See. 3. Participants are expected to retell a story based on the choices given by the committee. 4. Stories will be given to the participants on Technical Meeting, Sunday, May 6, 2012. 5. Here are the stories list: 1. Robin Hood 2. The Princess Who Never Smiled 3. Little Match Girl

Theme for Final Round 1. Final Round will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012. 2. The Theme of Final Round is Show Your Empathy through a Story. 3. The participants are expected to make their own story based on the theme and their creativity. 4. Participants must send their own story to fransiscapertiwi@ymail.com or dita.elzano@gmail.com before May 1, 2012 at 12.00 5. Participants are also expected to give a moral value on the story they have made.

C. Rules of Story Telling Competition General Rules 1. Each participant or the representative must come to Technical Meeting on May 6, 2012 at 08.00 a.m. The technical meeting of Story Telling Contest will be held in Sanata Dharma University, at Room K-10. 2. The capacity of this Story Telling Contest participants are 40 students. Every school may appoint 2 students at the maximum to join The Story Telling Contest. 3. All participants will be divided into two groups, Group A and Group B. Each group consists of 20 participants. The Rooms for Qualification Round are: Group A Group B : K-10 : K-12

The Room for Final Round: K-12

Qualification and Final Round Rules 1. Each participant must come at least 15 minutes before the competition begins. 2. On Qualification Round, each participant must perform a story based on the texts given by the committee.

3. On Final Round, participants who have passed the qualification round must perform their own story according to the theme and their own creativity. 4. None of the participants is allowed to read any story text or keynote when delivering the story. 5. Each participant will be called three times in a row based on his/her turn (first chance). 6. Participants who do not come up after being called three times (first chance) will be put on the last turn (second chance). 7. Participants who do not come on the second chance will be disqualified. 8. Participants may opt to use actions, props or costumes, at their own expense, to help to bring their stories to life. 9. Participants attendants may video and photograph of their participants performance, as long as they do not disturb the other participants when delivering their story. Please be aware that the attendants may not be on the stage during the performance. 10. The applause can be given only at the beginning and at the end of story. 11. The committee will give sign to the participant by using flags: a. Green flag : the participant begins his/her story-telling. (5-7 minutes) b. Yellow flag : the story-telling has been performed for 5 minutes (minimum time). c. Red flag : the time is up (7 minutes = maximum time).

12. 15 seconds will be given as a tolerance time right after the 7th minute. If the story has not been finished yet, the committee will give 5 knocks as a sign that the time is over. 13. The tolerance time will be a consideration for score lessening. Thus every second past the tolerance time will reduce the score. 14. The score margin is between 0 - 100. 15. Each participant must stay at the competition venue until the competition ends and must remain silent when another participant is delivering his or her story, unless by any of the committees permission. 16. Every communication device must be silent or turned off. 17. The adjudicators' decision is final and no correspondence pertaining to the judging process will be entertained.

E. Additional Information Contribution of Story Telling Each participant should pay Rp 60.000,00 as a registration payment.
