Haas Vertical Machining Center: VF-2YT

Machine shown with optional equipment

Technical Features and Benefits

The Haas VF-2YT Vertical Machining Center is an American-made machining center that combines innovative design principles, unique control features and quality construction to make it simple, versatile and affordable. The Haas CNC control is designed to be easy to use without referencing the manual, using steps that are logical to operators, and utilizing built-in software that makes producing parts not programming the operators key thought. Built using a wide-base, cast-iron frame, the VF-2YT, like all Haas machines, yields rigidity and damping beyond that of machines using fabricated or weldment-type frames. The machines design provides high rigidity and a clean work area. The powder-coated, full steel enclosure features large doors for easy access to the work table. These features, combined with local distributor service, make the Haas VF-2YT the standard for design innovation, quality and affordability.

MACHINE FEATURES AND BENEFITS

All features, benefits and specifications are subject to change.

Massive cast-iron construction:

All Haas CNC machines are built utilizing American-made cast-iron components, which provide up to ten times the damping capacity of steel. Haas castings are internally reinforced with numerous heavy ribs to resist flex and damp vibrations, and each one is thoroughly inspected to ensure it is free of flaws.

Dual-drive spindle motor:

The Haas Dual-Drive system consists of a dual-winding motor Y and Delta windings and an electronic switch to change between the two windings. Selecting the best winding for low-rpm cutting and the best winding for high-rpm cutting yields higher torque values over a wider rpm range. In addition, the Haas Dual-Drive system provides constant horsepower over a much wider rpm range.

Powerful 20-horsepower (15-kW) vector drive spindle:

A high-performance motor combined with the Haas-designed vector drive produces the fastest, most powerful spindle output ever. This true closed-loop system doubles low-speed torque and accelerations. Maximum torque for the standard 20-horsepower (15-kW) direct-drive spindle is 75 ft-lb (102 Nm) at 1400 rpm.

Fast, reliable tool changer:

The unique Haas tool changer utilizes a sinusoidal-motion arm to accelerate and decelerate shuttle movement thus preventing jarring to the tools and machine. With only two moving parts, the umbrella tool changer offers smooth, reliable action and long life.

High-speed brushless motors:

The rapid-traverse rates of Haas brushless drives increase the speed of operation, enabling users to increase productivity and profitability through increased output.

Hardened-steel bearing packs:

Haas uses hardened-steel bearing packs rolling on hardened-steel ways. Built using the same precision grinding technology utilized in bearing manufacturing, they feature zero clearance and full loadcarrying capacity in all directions.

Double-anchored ballscrews:
Haas uses only premium-quality ballscrews and guides that meet the highest quality standards in the industry. Haas ballscrews are anchored at both ends and pre-tensioned, then inspected for 100% parallelism to the axis guides.

100% ball bar testing before shipping:

Haas uses a stringent ball bar test that not only checks linear accuracy, but also the machine geometry. This ensures the three-dimensional squareness and accuracy of each machine.

MACHINE OPTIONS (partial list)

High-precision 2-speed gearbox:
For heavy cutting and additional versatility, a Haas-built two-speed gearbox is available that yields 250 ft-lb (339 Nm) of torque in low gear, yet provides plenty of speed in high gear for finish cuts and aluminum. Haas has invested millions of dollars in the finest gear-making and inspection equipment in the world, to produce gears that are accurate enough to be used as inspection gears.

High-speed spindles:
Maintaining the proper chip load during high-speed machining is crucial. The latest high-speed spindles from Haas provide 10,000, 15,000 or 30,000 rpm of cutting speed to take full advantage of the time savings and increased accuracy possible with todays high-speed machining.

Through-spindle coolant:
The Haas through-spindle coolant options improve tool life and allow higher speeds, deep hole drilling and blind pocket milling. The result is high productivity and reduced cycle times. Haas engineers have designed a special seal which disengages when the system is not in use. This exclusive design feature extends the life of the system. The standard TSC option provides 300 psi (20 bar) at a flow rate of 1.5 gallons (5.7 L) per minute, and 250 psi (17 bar) at 4 gpm (15 Lpm). The 1000 psi option has a max flow rate of 6 gpm (23 Lpm), and requires separate (customer-supplied) 3-phase power. In both systems, actual pressure will vary with the diameter of the coolant passages in the tool.

Programmable coolant nozzle:

Another unique time-saving feature from Haas. We noticed operators were constantly opening the doors of the machine to readjust coolant lines. P-Cool is a multi-position programmable nozzle that automatically directs coolant precisely at the part. The position of the nozzle is controlled via the program, saving operator time by eliminating constant adjustments.

High-speed machining:
The HSM option provides a powerful tool to reduce cycle times and improve accuracy. Using a motion algorithm called acceleration before interpolation, combined with full look-ahead of up to 80 blocks, HSM provides fast contouring feeds without distortion of the programmed path. The Haas HSM option accepts ISO standard G code, and is a fraction of the cost of other high-speed controls.

24-tool side-mount tool changer:

More tools, more work space and faster tool changes together, these advantages will increase productivity and reduce setup times. Locating the tool changer outside of the work envelope frees up additional workspace, while adding greater flexibility when using large fixtures or rotary tables.
