Twain Error Code List

Last Update: 10/30/2003 Document Overview From time to time, you may run into an error code during Twain scanning. The following list will assist in troubleshooting Twain error codes. Error Code List Error Message Cannot find the scanner. Check if the scanner main power is on. Insufficient memory. Close all other applications, then restart scanning. Scanner is not available. Check the scanner connection. Error # 12320 4128 9009 9010 8528 Cause No supported scanner has been found. RAM (PC) or virtual memory shortage. Solution Verify that the scanner is connected properly. Verify that the scanner power switch is on. Close any other applications Increase RAM (PC) or virtual memory. Make sure the OS properly recognizes the board. Install the driver again. Make sure if the device and connections are OK. - Reboot the PC. - Check the cable. (Is it the correct cableANSI compliant, shielded SCSI 2 or SCSI 3 cable? Are the pins bent? broken? Etc.) Place the document in the ADF. Select a scan region within range. Wait until the scanner becomes ready (Generally it takes a few seconds) Close the ADF cover Close the ADF. This is not an error message, just a notification.

SCSI board (or IEEE1394 board) is not installed properly. Or there is something wrong with the device or connection. ASPI driver is not installed properly. Unknown error occurs on SCSI or Network I/F.

Place the original in the ADF. The length of the original exceeds limit. Scanner is not ready. Check the scanner and the options.

No paper in the ADF. The selected scan region is out of range. Scanner is busy. (Initializing, etc..) ADF cover is open ADF is open Scanning was canceled by pressing the cancel button in the TWAIN dialog or on the scanner. The scan is canceled when Start from scanner is selected. Scanning has stopped due to a bus reset at the IEEE1394 board.

Scanning has been aborted.

Cause Scanning has stopped due to transfer retries at the IEEE1394 board.

Solution Use a different PC.

Error Message Clear Misfeed(s) in ADF.

Error # 34962

Cause Jam has occurred in the ADF

Solution Remove the jammed paper. Make sure the document is an appropriate size and paper type for the ARDF. Remove the misfed document and try again. Make sure the document is an appropriate size and paper type for the ARDF. Call to service. Record the error message and error number for the technician.

Misfeed has occurred in the ADF An unfixable error has occurred in the scanners hardware.

Cannot detect the paper size of the original. Specify the scanning size. Insufficient memory. Reduce the scanning area. The name is already in use. Check the registered names.

Size detection failed.

Scanning data size exceeds the scanners frame memory. When saving the scanning Mode and Area, the selected name already exists.

Make sure the top 5 mm of the document are clean and white. Make sure the document is set on the platen glass properly. In Duplex scanning, scanning size must not exceed the following size. For binary: 4,000,000 byte For grayscale: 3,600,000 byte Pick a new name.

Error Message Cannot continue endorsing due to the limit. Cannot specify any more scanning area. Cannot add any more scanning mode. The [Start from Scanner] setting has been canceled due to the scanner timeout. The number of scanned front-side pages does not match the number of scanned backside pages. Check originals. No response from the scanner. Communication error has occurred on the network. Scanner is in use by other user. Please wait. Cannot connect to the scanner. Check the network Access Mask settings in User Tools. Invalid Winsock version. Please use version 1.1 or higher. Scanner is in use for other function. Please wait. Please call your service representative. Cannot use the specified scanning area and resolution settings with the currently selected settings. Disable the Dynamic Thresholding, Auto Photo/Letter and Area settings.

Error # 8736 9777 9737 32809 8768

Cause This error occurs when a negative value is set to count down or the value more than 99999 is set to count up. The maximum number of scanning areas (max 99) has already been reached. The maximum number of scanning modes (max 99) has already been reached. When Start from Scanner is selected on Windows 98, and the start button is not pressed within 300 seconds. Feeding error. (for example, 2 pages were fed at the same time). No response from the scanner. Communication error has occurred. Attempting to scan while someone else is using the scanner. Access Mask is set on the device. Winsock version out of date. Scanner is in Initial Setup or SP mode, or otherwise occupied. Some models display this message when the scanner is in use by other user. Service call has occurred. The resolution exceeds the limits of Dynamic Thresholding, Auto Photo/Letter and Area setting.

Solution Change the default value properly. Delete unnecessary scanning areas. Delete unnecessary scanning modes. Press Scan button in the driver dialog (PC) and press the start key on the scanner within 300 seconds. See if a feeding error has occurred.

- Check the scanner power. - Check the network cable connection. - Check the TCP/IP settings on the PC. Wait for the scanner to become free. Change or cancel the Access Mask. The OSs built in Winsock does not have this problem. Reinstall the OS or copy Winsock from the CAB. Wait until the scanner is ready.

Error # 8983 Others 33376

Cause When selecting the rotation option, the error message [8983] is displayed. Bug in the driver, or the OS is incompatible. Error in the setting parameters on the device.

Solution Upgrade Twain driver to version 3.58 or higher. Reboot the OS If it reoccurs after the reboot, call service. Reinstall the driver If it occurs after the driver reinstall, call for service.
