SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The CSCI Playback (XPL) is a part of SATCAS (ALENIA Air Traffic Control Automatic System). The purpose of PLB is to review the data from file on disk that previously is restored from tape by CSCI BCK or stored by XRE on disk, and all the information stored on file are send to LAN.
Two different kinds of Playback can be performed:

Fast view Direct from the H/D without restore the file from tape Playback by means loading from tape and restore on mirrored disk The users are the following: WSs (Workstation) which receive all the messages addressed to them.

The data to be reproducted are: System tracks, coming from MRT processing Local tracks (mono-radar/DARD tracks) Weather data Orders from controllers Orders of supervision coming from certain (central processors, workstation, Monitoring system) Diagnostic messages coming from displays, central processor,RHPs Control messages (time, date, etc.) Auxialiary data Flight data In summary, the playback function is able to reproduct all the messages which are stored on file and send them through out the LANs. All radar and flight plan data relevant to a workstation are played-back together with all action performed by the controllers, in order at the time of the recording. The playback can be performed in fast (double speed)/normal/slow (half speed and one quarter) modes.

INTERFACE TOWARDS THE SYSTEM OPERATOR

The system operator interfaces the CSCI XPL by operator orders. He can address these orders to the CSCI XPL and see the answers or the diagnostics in two ways: by any node console and/or by a dedicated CMS (Control and Monitoring Subsystem) where the operator can also check the logical status of CSCI XPL In both cases, the messages dispatching is executed by SMD.

PLB ORDERS

This Chapter describes all orders accepted by CSCI XPL grouped in the following classes: Configuration and initialization orders: these orders prepare PLB to start a playback session Orders to start/ stop playback sessions Information presentation orders: these orders show information about the palyback status .

Every order addressed to the CSCI XPL must fit the following syntax: <PLB ORDER> = [ <NODE ADDRESS> blank ] <PLB CLASS> blank <ORDER> [ <PARAMETERS> ] where: <NODE ADDRESS> = the node triliteral where the order must be sent. It can be omitted if the order is typed on the local node console but it must be present if the order is typed on another node console or by CMS <PLB CLASS> <ORDER> = the triliteral PLB = one of the triliterals of the order list managed by PLB (see next paragraph) 1 = blank <PARAMETER> { blank <PARAMETER> } 0 3 = { <CHARACTER> | <DECIMAL DIGIT> } 2

ORDER ANALYSIS AND EXECUTION

The CSCI XPL analyses any received order in several consecutive phases: Acceptability analisys: in this phase PLB checks if it can accept any order (right or wrong) If PLB cant accept any command, the following notifications are sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (and/or on notification window of CMS): <PLB ORDER> : PLB IS IN XXXXX STATE where XXXXX is the actual PLB status incompatible with order execution or <PLB ORDER> : THE NODE IS COMMUTING if the order is sent during a change node status phase otherwise PLB continues the analisys Syntax analisys: in this phase PLB checks if the order parameters are correct in number and value If the syntax is wrong, the following notification is sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (and/or on notification window of CMS): <PLB ORDER> : SYNTAX ERROR otherwise PLB continues the analisys

UNCLASSIFIED

Page 22

ATMAS Division

UNCLASSIFIED

ES010006101UM4 E184 Issue B Date: 27/03/2003

Preliminary semantic analisys: in this phase PLB checks if it can suddenly reply the answer (either with positive or negative issue) If it can, a notification is sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (see the chapter 6 for notifications in case of negative issue) otherwise the following notification is sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (and/or on notification window of CMS): <PLB ORDER> : ORDER ACCEPTED or <PLB ORDER> : ORDER IN EXECUTION and PLB continues the analisys Semantic analisys: in this phase PLB checks if the order is compatible with file status or peripheral status (Voice Recoreder, Serial Printer ). If not, two different notifications are sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (and/or on notification window of CMS): <PLB ORDER> : COMMAND NOT IN SEQUENCE if the operator omits some preliminary order (for example if he tries to mount a file not previously assigned) The chapter 6 will contain the complete list of cases where these notifications are shown.

UNCLASSIFIED

Page 23

UNCLASSIFIED

ES010006101UM4 E184 Issue B Date: 27/03/2003

Order execution: this phase follows the preliminary semantic analisys (if the answer to the order can be suddenly replied) or the semantic analisys in case of orders compatibles with the PLB and peripheral status. At the end of execution, there are two types of notifications sent to SMD and displayed on the sender I/O console (and/or on notification window of CMS). The first one is referred to information presentation orders (see the netx paragraphs): <PLB ORDER> : <PLB ORDER ANSWER> (it is to be noted that the generic answer in case of negative issue at the end of each analisys phase has this form, where the order answer is an appropriate diagnostic see the chapter 6) while the second one is referred to all others orders: <PLB ORDER> : FMS ERROR (case of device off) or <PLB ORDER> : ERROR IN EXECUTION (case of errors occurred during the execution) In this last case the answer is followed by a diagnostic message that explains the error occurred.

ORDER TO CONFIGURE AND INITIALIZE PLB

The CSCI XPL can manage up to five files in two different way: the first one mode is olny with file main the second one mode (is optional) with file main and file reserve, in this case the file reserve must be the continuation file of file main . Each file unit is identified by a physical number (1,2,3,4,5), the role of file is identified by a logical name that can be FLA for main file and FLB for file reserve. At the start no files are assigned to PLB, to begin a playback session are needed some operations. The first operation is the assignment of file main (PLB ASF FLX), the second is mounting of files (PLB MOF FLX). Naturally, there are also the commands to dismount and to deassign files (PLB DAF/DMF FLX). Besides it is possible to require some selections regarding to printer, for instance, or reproduction modality (PLB ENA REA/PLH )

All the information PLB wants to communicate to the operators are sent as messages and displayed, by SMD, on I/O consoles and/or on the CMS windows. There are two types of messages: - notifications (for example the answers to the orders typed by the operators or when some particular event occurrs) The format of these messages is of two types: <PLB ORDER> : <ASCII STRING> PLB : <ASCII STRING> (case of orders answer) (case of particular event)

- diagnostics (in case of some errors occurred during the orders execution or if some operators action is required) The format of these messages is following : PLB CODE:PmPRSWppRESxxxxH :<ASCII STRING> where: m = PLB internal module index (in decimal format) where the error is occurred 1 : P1 process 2 : P2 process 4 : P4 process pp = procedure index (in decimal format) into the module where the error is occurred xxxx = error code (in hexadecimal format): if it is different from zero, it is a MARA error code The list of all PLB messages (the ASCII strings) is reported in the followings paragraphs.

In some cases the errors detected by PLB prevent the correct continuation of PLB execution. In these cases PLB sends to the kernel a stop signal to advise it that it is not more able to continue the execution. The events that cause these fatal error are called stop events and are usually the impossibility to obtain some resources as: - to open a path with others CSCI - to create a mailbox - to create a process - to create a buffer or when the PLB configuration parameters are incompatible with node configuration.
