Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

The Council of Catholic Women is planning an informative meeting on Identity Theft that you wont want to miss. The meeting will be held in the Parish Life Center on Monday April 16th and begin at 7:00 pm. A member of the Lombards Police Department will be our speaker for the evening. Plan to come and bring a friend. Identity theft on the rise, the report in the Chicago Tribune warned. The statistics are alarming. Nearly 12 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2011, an increase of 13 percent from 2010 according to a report released by the research firm Javelin Strategy & Research. The rise in the use of smartphones and social media by incautious consumers fueled the increase in identity fraud. With credit card monitoring and more sophisticated policing used by credit card companies, identity thieves are increasingly targeting users of smartphones and social media where consumers have a tendency to be less cautious, experts say. A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
When the risen Christ encounters his disciples in the locked room he adds a new Beatitude to the ones weve heard proclaimed before: Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. Stewards of the mysteries of Gods love do not need proof of the risen Christ. They know it because their lives have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who has breathed new life into them. As stewards of this great gift it is appropriate to reflect on how we in turn add new life into our parish communities.

Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 Leadership News

Page 5

As this Leadership year at Christ the King draws near its close, I have been reflecting on the many things that have been accomplished this past year. The Pastoral Parish Council met 4 times during the year and has its next meeting scheduled for May 29. I personally invite anyone who is interested in the activities of the parish to attend this meeting. The council will meet in the PLC at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of advising the parish staff on upcoming matters. All four parish commissions are represented and report on upcoming events and activities within the parish organizations and ministries. This year the council reviewed and suggested updates to the current parish strategic plan. We plan to continue that work next year as well as making necessary revisions to the parish handbook and website. The Christ the King Leadership met throughout the year in the Early Learning Center on the first Tuesday of the month. Each month the commission members took on an assigned task as directed by the Pastoral Parish Council. Those tasks included reviewing the parish communication plan, making suggestions to the commission structure and received a report from the parish finance committee. The parish Leadership also attended a retreat in January. The Parish Leadership is comprised of the four parish Commissions: Administration, Worship, Service and Faith Formation. Each commission is comprised of a chairman, recorder, staff liaison and representative from each organization or ministry assigned to the commission. The council and staff are currently in the process of updating our commission list to our current parish structure. The list will be finalized at the Leadership meeting on May 1 and then shared with the entire parish to encourage additional participation and new leaders to assume leadership roles in places where leaders have fulfilled their term and will be retiring. At the June 5 Leadership meeting, we will be recognizing those who have served as leaders in their commission this past year and those retiring from a parish Leadership role. At the Leadership retreat in January, one of the primary goals for the coming year is to encourage more parishioners to be involved in our parish. You can help to prevent us from falling into the well known 80/20 Rule of 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. Your parish leadership would rather have 100% of the people in our parish community involved. Father Peter asks us to share our Time, Talents and Treasure with our parish. It is my hope and prayer that every person and child in our parish finds a way to be involved in at least one parish activity in the coming year and that new leaders will rise from those who volunteer. I thank God for all those who are currently involved in our parish community and ask Him to bless each and every one of you. Anna Weselak, Chairman Christ the King Pastoral Parish Council

Congratulations to our newly Baptized and Confirmed into the Catholic Church!

Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

This spring is a good time to get out, try something different, plant some ideas and watch them grow. The Council of Catholic Women provides many opportunities to grow and learn and make new friends. This past year, with the help of our fellow parishioners, we managed many successful projects. And, we enjoyed doing it. It was a way to work together and be helpful. Being helpful and having purpose are two of the ingredients to happiness. CCW is always looking for help. You would be most welcome to join us in any of our projects. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, April 16th. Watch for more information here in the bulletin. We would be happy to see you!
Many blessings and a very Happy Easter! Pat LeBeau - Publicity Council of Catholic Women

Are you outgoing? Always smiling? Do you have a welcoming character? We are in need of additional Greeters and Ushers for our liturgical celebrations at Christ the King.
The Hospitality Ministry, in particular, ushers and greeters, is one of the most critical ministries at our parish. Greeters and Ushers are the first people you see when you enter the church. They are there to extend a warm welcome and to make it easy and comfortable to find a seat. They are also critical for safety, service and helpful information. The only thing you need to be an usher is a willingness to serve others and not be afraid to say hi to people. Job Description in Short: Must be able to come 20 minutes before Mass Be willing to serve people! Be the smiling face everyone sees entering and exiting our church If you are interested in this area of ministry, please contact Eileen Maggiore for a volunteer interview at 630.396.6076, or email at eileen@ctklombard.org.
