WILL CHANGE THE LAW TO ENSURE FIXED DATE GENERAL ELECTIONS. RESOLUTION ON IMMIGRATION LAW AND POLICY REFORM

BEARING IN MIND the current and illegal WAVE OF MASS INSTANT CITIZENSHIPS being promoted and perpetrated by this UDP Government in a desperate and naked attempt to subvert our democracy; CONSCIOUS THAT the Belizeans are outraged by the gross flouting of the law and those long established practices, procedures and safeguards of the Immigration Department in respect of citizenship applications; RECOGNIZING THAT it is necessary to reform our nations immigration law and policy so that the current situation never occurs again; ASSERTING that Belize will remain a strong democracy only when we restore confidence in ourselves, our laws and institutions, when government is accountable to the people, and the politics of self-gratification, greed and vindictiveness is replaced by the participation of all;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE PEOPLES UNITED PARTY WILL:

PASS A LAW TO STOP THE ISSUANCE OF NATIONALITY CERTIFICATES THREE MONTHS BEFORE NATIONAL AND MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
