Why I Give - A Donor Story

Spotlight: Grateful Patient

Grateful patient, Dave Zimmerman, knows a good thing when he sees it so he goes a step further and uses his love of photography to commemorate it! That includes his cardiac care at St. Joseph Medical Centers Heart Institute. The caregivers are so important. They need to know they are appreciated, says Zimmerman. . When I was rushed to St. Joes Emergency Department in 1997 with heart trouble, I had the good fortune to be the beneficiary of Dr. Alikhans skill. He takes his time and is so thorough, I feel like Im his only patient." Read more about his unique grateful patient story.

With 13 apartment and townhome communities to oversee, A&G Management Company, Inc. is one very busy company. They found the time, however, to use their business model to come up with a unique way to raise funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A&G Management ran a special promotion to donate $50 of every lease signed in October towards this important cause. The result: $2,275 was given to the Breast Center, part of St. Joseph Medical Centers Cancer Institute. More about this fundraising effort.

St. Joseph Board Recommends New Owner

Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) accepted the recommendation of the St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) board of directors at its meeting on March 23 to transfer SJMC to the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) from CHI, its current sponsor. The decision comes after a yearlong evaluation of strategic alternatives and discussions in recent months with Catholic and other not-for-profit health care organizations that expressed interest in St. Joseph. We are approaching the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Hackerman-Patz House, funded through the generosity of Willard and Lillian Hackerman. For nearly a year, the House has provided a warm, compassionate and homelike setting for patients and families traveling outside of our service area. This facility provides the community with a reminder of the wonderful impact philanthropy can have on the lives of our patients and their families.
