Were going to look into the best Twitter accounts for the Norman community to follow. Unique, informative or just funny, here are some Twitter feeds worth keeping in mind.
national names, as always. If youre looking for news on NMF, why not go straight to the source? Get your ironic bands names ready and prepare for the show. Normans hipster population pretty much triples during NMF weekend; before the bands are dismissed theyve already gone mainstream. knowing whats going on when there is severe weather close by is a good idea, and what better place to get weather reports than from the source? As entertaining as Gary England may be, if youre not near a TV or radio, this is a good source for any weather alerts on your feed.

side from Facebook, Twitter is the king of social networking. But Twitters uses arent just to keep in touch with friends, plenty of people get their news from Twitter now, follow the stream of consciousness from their favorite athletes or celebrities and create an art of their own in 140 characters. With that, here are some of the feeds you should be following if you arent already.
Mass Effect 3
>> One of the great gaming sagas of this generation has come to its finale. The story of Commander Shepard and his quest to save the galaxy ends with a bang. The combat is fluid, the resource scanning has been greatly improved, and the plot culminates well, although the endings can be a bit of a disappointment depending on how you played the game. Multiplayer is a new addition to the series, similar in a lot of ways to Gears Horde Mode. You wont always win, but youll get a big XP boost when you do, and its a optional boost to your total military strength for the final fight against the Reapers. Hopefully this isnt the end of all Mass Effect games, but its a great way to end the trilogy.
OU Problems (@OUProblems)
In a similar vein to #firstworldproblems, this feed has become a sorting point for all of the annoying, disturbing, funny or absurd things about the Norman campus. Whether its complaining about campus weather, inarticulate professors or irritating high schoolers running around campus, tweet it either to @OUProblems or tweet with the hashtag #OUProblems, and theres a chance itll get retweeted. Also, the person running the account tweets back to users sometimes. Its pretty cool.
Granted, these may be the dreaded people wanting almost $200/year for the privilege to go driving around campus looking for a space, only to be hiding behind the nearest tree or SUV to stick a yellow $25 ticket under your windshield wiper, but theyre utilizing Twitter to be of help as well, tweeting where the open spaces are. Granted, theyre mostly going to be at the Duck Pond, but every little bit helps.
ESPNs own blogger for the Thunder is a good source of info regarding Oklahomas best professional basketball team. Young is an OU and Gaylord alum, and his blog strikes a good balance between humor and sports writing, with his tweets pretty much following the same formula. Its a good way to keep tabs on our favorite NBA team, and lets face it, what other team would you be following?
(@NormanMusicFest)
Its getting closer. April 26-28 will bring out the best local indie rock musicians and a few bigger
This is Oklahoma. Tornadoes and severe weather are very common all over the state. In fact, tornado coverage is preempting a lot of my TV viewing tonight, even though theres no storm within 100 miles of here. My complaints aside,
If youre an avid Boyd Street reader, you probably already know about our own Twitter handles. If not, give us some follows. If you need romantic advice, want to find out where to get On The Scene pictures, or youre just looking for some OU-centric sports talk, hit us up and well get you all set up.
SPORTS/SNOWBOARDING
SSX (2012)
>>
>> Its been a while since weve had a good extreme sports game. The Tony Hawk series began its downward spiral years ago. SSX is a bit of change in direction for the series, a world tour of sorts through nine mountain ranges across the globe with increasingly insane challenges, including trying to snowboard down Mount Everest and mountains in Antarctica. The fact that it goes a bit over the top (including one level where you snowboard down the mountain in a wingsuit, and another where you try to outrun an avalanche) works to its advantage. This is a fun game, and definitely worth giving a try when you have the chance.

about. But this weeks article isnt exactly about local music. In a way, however, it is EXACTLY about local music. Im talking about a video series covering local music called Be Nice to Your Kids.
THESIS STATEMENT: Check out the Be Nice to Your Kids live local music video performance series. http://changeyrlife.com/category/be-nice-to-your-kids WHO: The way I understand it, Be Nice To Your Kids is a specific part of a series entitled Change Yr Life. The important part of all this is that it comes from the Delo Creative media team out of OKC, best known for their work with The Flaming Lips and most recently their work shooting and directing some new Dr. Dog videos. Delo Creative has done a lot of great work with local bands all across Oklahoma like Broncho (Norman/Tulsa), Gentle Ghost (Norman) and Stardeath & White Dwarfs (OKC/Norman). WHAT: To recap, Be Nice To Your Kids is a guerilla-style video series from Delo Creative shooting local bands playing raw and live in unique, typically run-down locations throughout the state. WHEN: Since December 2011, and still going. WHERE: Each band shoots in a different location, and the locations are the best part

Use your manners. Dont chew with your mouth open, say please and thank you and dont talk about bodily functions on a date. Give your date your FULL attention. It may be hard, but keep your cell phone off the table and out of sight. Facebook can wait. Guys open a car door for a girl. Yes, I could open my own door, but its so dashing when my date does it for me. Girls dont spill it all on a first date. Girls like to talk, its true, but if you tell a guy your life story on the first date you might not have much to talk about on the second. Dress to impress. Im not saying go for the prom look, but wear something a little on the nicer side for a date. Put your best face forward and such. Dont forget HAVE FUN!

: Dear Elizabeth, We havent even graduated yet and all of my friends are engaged. My summer is literally packed with weddings. What. The. Heck? Is this normal? I feel like I need to ship myself to the East Coast or something. Im not even dating anyone. Brittany : Dear Brittany, The average American woman gets married around the age of 26; in Oklahoma (one of the lowest in the country) they get married around 24. Just listen to me - Id rather be in my 30s getting married for the first time to the right person than be in my 20s and getting married for the second time because the first guy didnt work out. Take your time. Were all still growing here. : Dear Elizabeth, My boyfriend and his ex-girlfriend are still friends. They still talk and catch up with each other almost once a week. I dont want to be the crazy girlfriend, but how do I tell him that is just NOT acceptable? Ellie : Dear Ellie, Yeaaaaah. Thats got to go. I mean I dont know how their relationship ended, but I dont think after you get out of a serious relationship that its possible to remain friends. If he doesnt cut things off, Id say its time to date someone who will stop straying into older pastures.

Spring Drinks
Ah, Spring. Time to hit the patios and mix up your drinking routine.
Im sure your spring break was a blast and I would totally love to hear about it, but sorry, old news. You probably noticed you can show those legs off again so yeah, its spring drinking season. In fact, you should probably just get a drink for this. Itll be a lot easier on both of us, I assure you. I had my first Brandy Alexander the other day, which honestly, is probably a winter drink, but who cares, it got me in an adventurous drinking spirit. Actually, there are several seasonal beverages that I normally steer clear of (in season or no) that Ive been jamming on the last few weeks. Admittedly, some are less manly (Skittles infused vodka. Dont lie, you love it.) than others (Yeah ... it takes a lot of whiskey to balance that one out. Trust me.), but theyve all been delicious while draining only a fraction of my productivity. True story. Lets start with some beer. As of late, Ive been getting back to the beverage that originally brought me to the party. Beer. But not Keystone Light. Ive been playing catch-up on the brews lately but there are a few that have proven to be fine little treats on a pleasant afternoon. For fans of the lighter-bodied fare, the Nomad Pilsner by Great Divide ($11) should be a welcome drinking addition. Its a cleaner finishing pilsner than some of its more traditional European counterparts but thats what I kind of like about it. While theyve refreshed me on a hot day on one or two occasions, the finish on European pilsners has never really been my jam. By patriotically having an American job, Ive gracefully sidestepped this palate problem. If youre into darker or richer beers, a recent revisit of the Rogue Chocolate Stout ($6.49) proved to be a worthwhile endeavor. While its still a relatively heavy beer, the Rogue doesnt feel quite as weighty as some of its stout counterparts. The chocolate flavor is a bit more focused through the palate compared to some of the other chocolate stouts that are readily available in Oklahoma. The rather dry finish leaves the feeling that you just ate a piece of chocolate and generally makes you go back for another drink. Its a wonderfully balanced beer. Theres never a shortage of new and exciting IPAs around here, but one that has flown a bit under the radar is the Happy Camper IPA by Sante Fe ($8). Its one of the growing number of quality canned beers that have gradually slipped into the marketplace over the past year. Its got a floral, aromatic quality that doesnt always make it into IPAs that hit the 405 which is a nice bonus. Hop heads will be satisfied and the light citrus flavors provide a good balance to the aforementioned hoppiness. As you could imagine, it drinks better when poured into a glass, but it holds up quite well when enjoyed out of the can as well. Its arguably the best canned IPA in the state (depending on your feelings about Calderas offering and the availability of Torpedo in a can) but thats a battle for

another time. Time to shift gears anyway. While I have nothing against white wine, I dont usually drink that much of it. For the last month however, Ive been on a heck of a kick. It must be the lovely spring weather. Of course, you can dominate the stuff too. On the pinot grigio front, Ive thrown down a bottle or two of Big Fire ($18.49). Their pinot noir has long been a solid choice for the money but its white counterpart might be more of a steal. Its a wildly citrusy job that, quite frankly, is dangerously easy to drink. There are some other comparable pinot grigios that might offer a bit more depth, but thats not what this one is really about. This is an unpretentious porch pounder. If you want something refreshing with a lot of fruit this is a good call. If youre more inclined to have a sauvignon blanc, the current vintage of the Leese Fitch ($11) is a fine choice. It has crisp acidity but sports the h e a l t hy minerality that usually sets American sauvignon blancs apart from their New Zealand contemporaries. The nose is a little grassy but the citrus and floral notes on the palate make it a delightful Sunday Funday quaffer.

olunteers in more than 70 communities throughout the state of Oklahoma are organizing Relay For Life events to salute cancer survivors and caregivers, and to remember loved ones who have lost their fight against cancer. Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event provides community awareness and funds to further the American Cancer Societys mission of eliminating cancer by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. At Relay, teams of at least eight people gather around a track and participate in activities to honor and remember those touched by cancer. Here in Norman we want to raise awareness about Relay For Life to recruit teams and raise much-needed funds. Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups; people from all walks of life all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Societys efforts to create a world with more birthdays. Local volunteers are a huge part of a nationwide effort to save lives from cancer, but additional people are needed for the progress to continue. This years event will be held at the Norman High School track on May 18-19. Just as the effects of a challenging economy are felt by families in every community, cancer too has a far-reaching impact. The dollars donated and volunteer hours devoted to the American Cancer Society a part of Norman for many years are critically important. The Relay For Life event provides funding needed to do cutting-edge research; educate students, health care professionals and the public on the prevention and early detection of cancer; advocate for public policies that further the fight against cancer; and provide services for patients and families in our community. Norman was the first city in the state to have a resource room inside a local hospital. Norman Regional Hospital houses a resource room for patients who may need a wig, prosthesis or any other ACS resources. Relay For Life is contributing to programs like Road to Recovery, a van program that provides rides to treatment; Look Good, Feel Better, a program for women who are battling the effects of chemotherapy; and the 24-hour hotline that is available to anyone (1-800-227-2345). Now is the time for individuals, families, community groups, corporations and small businesses to commit to Relay For Life team participation. Join us at this event to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost, fight back against this disease and help the American Cancer Society realize its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. We are still in need of teams, volunteers, committee members, and sponsors. If you would like to get involved, please contact Kristy Dean at 405-219-1344. Join us as we strive to save lives faster and celebrate a world with more birthdays!

eaving The Big Tuna Fish Joint for the first time, I felt as refreshed as if Id jumped into the ocean where those scaled friends on my plate came from. Granted, if I wouldve jumped into the ocean right then, I wouldve sunk to the bottom faster than a bag of rocks (out of fullness, not swimming abilities, thank you). The point here is the place is refreshing. In my personal opinion, its just what Norman needs. I say its what Norman needs, but honestly the place is better than any fish joint Ive tried in Oklahoma City or Norman (especially for the price). Located in the Brookhaven Village Shopping Center, you cant miss the red neon lights that outline the top of the building. If you do happen to overlook that, maybe the giant fish skeleton on the logo on the buildings signage will get your attention. Its awesome. Totally unique, like everything else theyve done. Upon walking into The Big Tuna, the casual atmosphere and dcor eases any tension you had prior to stepping into the place. Its like walking into a Jimmy Buffett concert ... or Kenny Chesney maybe? Teal blue walls are artfully accented with other island colors, and a giant fish (I shall name you ... Parsley) sits atop a terra cotta roof that extends from part of the second story above the bar area. Despite the amount of time I couldve spent admiring the welcoming dcor - you have to move sometime. I grabbed a menu hanging from the wall and moved toward the ordering counter. A large perk of my job is that when I review restaurants, Im encouraged to try an assortment of menu items. In this case I (and my plus one) ordered: Shrimp brochettes - jumbo shrimp stuffed with baked cream cheese and jalapenos, wrapped in bacon Baked salmon- lightly seasoned with salt, olive oil and lemon Fish tacos - golden catfish strips with coleslaw, tomatoes and green onions Asian salmon- salmon topped with a soy hoisin glaze Sides of: black beans, hush puppies, gumbo, squash Rockefeller, onion rings and green chile rice (Dont judge ...) I still want to try a few other menu items like the fish and chips, or the half-shell Chesapeake Bay oysters (also heard theyll be offering oyster shooters soon with vodka or tequila, yesssss ...). However I couldnt have been more satisfied with the items I ordered. The menu here is awesome. Its so unique. When talking to the

awesomely friendly manager, Michael, he informed us that the menu was created by a mysterious menu genius named Don that works for them. Thank you, Don, for the insanely well-crafted and blended menu of deliciousness. The gumbo tastes very much like my grandmas (a New Orleans born and bred native), and the hush puppies also rivaled Nannas (my grandmother) family recipe. If she knew someone else had her hush puppy baking ability shed be crushed. Im going to have to keep this hush-hush. The black beans, onion rings, squash Rockefeller ... they were all delicious and full of flavor. But what made them taste even better was the main dish they came with. By far, I think the fish tacos are the best Ive ever tasted. Im not even a catfish kind of person. But honestly I didnt even know it was catfish until I looked it up ten minutes ago. Theyre fresh, filling and unbelievably legitimate. The salmon was baked to perfection, no lie. It was perfectly pink and fresh. It was so tender that I couldve eaten it with a spoon. Same goes for the Asian salmon. The Asian salmon was so good, my boyfriend and I fought about who got to take it home for leftovers. As for the shrimp brochettes, we ate them in about a split second. I dream about the day when I get to go back and eat more of them while watching a Thunder game on the upper loft while drinking an Oklahoma Heat, no less. Yes. To wash down the mammoth meal, I ordered their signature Oklahoma Heat, a unique combo of Azul Reposado, Cointreau, sweet and sour and fresh jalapeo. The drink is awesome. Its refreshing and although theres jalapeo in it, its definitely not what I would call spicy. Its delicious. I would like to explain more about it, but its completely unlike anything Ive ever tasted - in an awesome, wow-this-drink-makes-me-feel-alive kind of way. The bar also has many other delicious-looking signature drinks, along with the usual drinks of choice. To make things even sweeter the place stays open until 2 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (and with a late night menu too, chah-ching). With a patio, flat screen TVs (like eight of them), upstairs seating and their super, super friendly staff,1 I can easily see myself becoming a regular here. Casual atmosphere, cool drinks, reasonable prices and great food? Uhhh, where do I sign?
1 Really, like they have a large collection of really happy staffers in one place ... usually when a group of ten people or more are together and theyre all happy I get suspicious, but this gang was legit. Could not have been faster, more congenial or more attentive.

his jersey clean and let Landry have the time to find his array of weapons, including new tight ends Taylor McNamara and Brannon Green. The Sooner defense is a group losing Frank Alexander, Ronnell Lewis and Travis Lewis. The Sooner D however, welcomes back Mike Stoops to the family and no question Coach Stoops will bring his fire and intensity back in hopes to restore the Sooner defense to the top of the national charts once again. I recently had the chance to talk to the defensive ends coach Bobby Jack Wright and the coach was raving about the ends David King and junior college transfer Chaz Nelson. Chuka Ndulue has had a great winter and look to replace Alexander and Lewis. At the tackle spot its time for Jamarkus McFarland needs to lead this group and put pressure up the middle. Linebacker is a big spot at the University of Oklahoma and Tom Wort will need to lead this group but will be sitting out this spring, so Jaydan Bird, Joseph Ibiloye and Corey Nelson will get the brunt of the work. Aaron Colvin, Tony Jefferson and Javon Harris will patrol the defensive backfield. It will be interesting to watch this group through spring and see their development, especially with juco transfer Kass Everett being in the mix. Gabe Lynn and Joe Powell will get some much-needed work as well. Spring practice will wrap up with the annual Red-White game on April 14th. The spring game is greatly attended and is played in similar fashion to a real game and will give the Sooner fans the only look at the team until the beginning of next football season. So with flowers in bloom and the weather getting better, spring is in the air and so is the pigskin. There are a few Sooners not mentioned in this story because they are not on campus yet but could play a big role next year, like Sterling Shepard from Heritage Hall.
