PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 A. SURFACE PREPARATION Remove loose material from the compacted subgrade surface immediately before placing moisture barrier. FORM CONSTRUCTION Set forms to the required grades and lines, rigidly braced and secured. Check completed formwork for grade and alignment to the following tolerances: 1. 2. Grade: Plus or minus 3 mm. Alignment: Plus or minus 6 mm at any point and no more than 3 mm deviation from a 3 meter straightedge.

C. 3.3 A.

Clean forms after each use, and coat with form release agent. REINFORCEMENT For driveways and areas of vehicular traffic: Locate, place, and support reinforcement. Steel reinforcement shall be provided as per Section 03210. For pedestrian walkways: Provide and place polymer grid per manufacturers specifications. CONCRETE PLACEMENT Comply with the requirements of Section 03300 for mixing and placing concrete, and as herein specified. Do not place concrete until subgrade and forms have been checked for line and grade and moisture barrier has been installed. Do not place concrete around structures or frames until they have been brought to the required grade and alignment. Place concrete in one course monolithic construction for the full width and depth of walks. Spread concrete as soon as it is deposited using methods which prevent segregation of the mix. Consolidate concrete along the face of forms and adjacent to transverse joints with an internal vibrator. Keep vibrator away from joint assemblies, reinforcement, or side forms. Use only square-faced shovels for hand- spreading and consolidation. Consolidate with care to prevent damage to moisture barrier or dislocation of reinforcing and joint materials. Refer to Section 03300 for hot weather placing. JOINTS General: 1. Construct expansion, isolation, and contraction joints true-to-line with face perpendicular to surface of the walks. 2. Construct transverse joints at right angles to the pavement centerline, unless otherwise indicated. When the walkway is abutting existing walks, place transverse joints to align with previously paved joints, unless otherwise indicated. Submit shop drawings showing locations of all joints.

Contraction Joints: 1. Provide contraction joints, to section the walkway into areas as shown on the drawings. Unless shown otherwise on drawings the spacing of weakened plane joints shall not exceed 1.5 meters. Construct weakened-plane joints to a depth equal to at least 1/4 the walkway thickness, as follows: Tooled Joints: Form weakened-plane joints in the fresh concrete by grooving the top portion of the slabs with a recommended cutting tool and furnishing edges with a jointer. Saw Cut Joints: Saw cut to width equal to 1/2 depth and fill with joint filler.

C.

Construction Joints: 1. Place joints at the end of pours and at locations where placement operations are stopped for a period of more than 1/2 hour, except where such pours terminate at expansion joints. Construct joints as shown on the drawings or, if not shown, use standard metal keyway-section forms.

2.

D.

Expansion and Isolation Joints: 1. Provide pre-molded joint filler for expansion joints and isolation joints abutting concrete paving and curbs, catch basins, manholes, inlets, structures, walks, and other fixed objects. Locate expansion joints at approximately 6 meter on center for each walkway lane, unless otherwise indicated. Extend joint fillers full width and depth of the joint, and not less than 12 mm or more than 25 mm below the finished pavement surface where joint sealer is indicated. If no joint sealer, place top of joint filler flush with finished concrete surface. Use joint fillers in one-piece lengths for the full width being placed, wherever possible. Where more than one length is required, lace or clip joint filler sections together. Protect the top edge of the joint filler during concrete placement with a metal cap or other temporary material. Remove protection after both sides of joint are placed.

Fillers and Sealants: Comply with the requirements of Section 03300 of these specifications for preparation of joints, materials, installation, and performance. CONCRETE FINISHING Perform concrete finishing using machine or hand methods as required. After striking off and consolidating concrete, smooth the surface by screeding and floating. Adjust the floating to compact the surface and produce a uniform texture. After floating, test surface for trueness with a 3 meter straightedge. Distribute concrete as required to remove surface irregularities, and refloat repaired areas to provide a continuous, smooth finish. Work edges of slabs and joints with a 3 mm radius edging tool. After completion of floating and when excess moisture or surface sheen has disappeared, complete surface finishing, as follows: 1. Broom finish, by drawing a fine-hair broom across the concrete surface, perpendicular to the line of traffic. Repeat operation if required to provide a fine line texture. Special finishes shall be as shown on the drawings or as directed by MARAFIQ.

Leave forms in place for at least 24 hours after concrete has been placed. After form removal, clean ends of joints and point-up any minor honeycombed areas. Remove and replace areas or sections of major honeycombing. Wrap the exposed vertical edges of sideways with polyethylene sheets prior to backfilling. CURING Protect and cure finished concrete walks complying with applicable requirements of Section 03300. Use moist-curing methods for initial curing whenever possible. After removal of forms, extend curing to exposed edges. REPAIR AND PROTECTION Repair or replace broken or defective walks. Protect the walks from damage until acceptance of the work. Exclude
