SECTION 07910 JOINT FILLERS AND GASKETS

PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 A. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The extent of joint filler and gasket work is shown on the drawings, and is hereby defined to include all such work not specified in other sections of these specifications (for work forming joint surfaces). Refer to Section 07920 "Sealants and Caulking" for sealants used in conjunction with joint fillers. SUBMITTALS Product Data: Submit manufacturer's specifications, installation instructions and recommendations for each type of material required. Include manufacturer's published data, certifications or laboratory test reports indicating that each material complies with the requirements. Show by transmittal that copy of instructions and recommendations has been distributed to the installer. Samples: Submit 300 mm long samples of each exposed joint filler or gasket which will be reviewed by the MARAFIQ for color and texture only. Compliance with all other requirements is the exclusive responsibility of the Contractor.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 A. MATERIALS, GENERAL Size and Shape: Provide the sizes and shapes of units as shown or, if not shown, as recommended by the manufacturer for the joint size and condition shown. Wherever joint movement is a factor in the determination of size, consult with the MARAFIQ to determine the nature and magnitude of anticipated joint movements for the temperature and condition of the project at the time of installation. Compressibility: Specified hardnesses and compressibilities are intended to establish requirements for normal or average conditions of installation and use. Wherever a range of hardness of compressibility is available for a product, comply with the manufacturer's recommendations for the specific condition of use. Color: Provide each concealed material in manufacturer's standard color, approved by the MARAFIQ, which has the best overall performance characteristics for the application shown. Provide exposed materials in black, except where another color is required by the MARAFIQ.

Compatibility: Before purchase of each filler or gasket material, confirm that it is compatible with the substrate, sealants, and other materials in the joint system. Adhesives: Pressure sensitive adhesives, compatible with each material in the joint system, may be applied (at Installer's option) to one face of joint fillers and gaskets to facilitate installation and permanent anchor-age. Do not allow adhesives to contaminate sealant bond surfaces (if any) in the joint system. CONCRETE CONTROL-EXPANSION JOINT FILLERS Bituminous and Fiber Joint Filler: Provide resilient and non-extruding type premolded bituminous impregnated fiberboard units complying with ASTM D1751 and AASHTO M213. CELLULAR FOAM EXPANSION JOINT FILLERS Closed-cell Neoprene Joint Filler: Provide expanded neoprene complying with ASTM D1056, Class SC (oil-resistant and medium swell), of 13 kPa to 34 Kpa compression deflection (Grade SCE 41); except provide 90 Kpa to 117 Kpa compression deflection (Grade SCE 44) wherever filler is applied under sealant exposed to traffic. GASKETS Molded Neoprene Gasket: Provide extruded neoprene gaskets coupling with ASTM D2000, designation 2BC 415 to 3BC 620, black, of 40 to 60 Shore A durameter hardness; of the profile shown or, if not shown, as required by the joint shape, size, and movement characteristics to maintain a watertight and airtight seal. MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS Oakum Joint Filler: Provide untreated hemp or jute fiber rope, free of oil, tar and other compounds which might stain surfaces, contaminate joint walls, or not be compatible with sealants.

PART 3 -EXECUTION 3.1 A. INSPECTION Examine the joint surfaces of units to receive fillers or gaskets, and the conditions under which the work is to be performed. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. INSTALLATION Comply with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for the installation of each type of joint filler or gasket required, unless more stringent requirements are shown or specified.

Set units at proper depth or position in the joint to coordinate with other work, including the installation of bond breakers, backer rods and sealants. Do not leave voids or gaps between the ends of joint filler units. Recess exposed edges or faces of gaskets and exposed joint fillers, slightly behind adjoining surfaces, unless otherwise shown, so that compressed units will not protrude from the joint. Bond ends of gaskets together with adhesive or by other means as recommended by the manufacturer to ensure continuous watertight and airtight performance. Mitercut and bond ends at corners unless molded corner units are provided.
