ASSIGNMENT TOPIC: CONSTRUCTION OF 2KM FM TRANSMITTER Instructions: This assignment is to be carried out individually.

Learning Outcome: ON COMPLETION OF THIS ASSIGNMENT YOU SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING LEARNING OUTCOME: BE ABLE TO

Understand how signals can be transmitted using amplitude, frequency and phase modulation schemes and demodulation to receive the transmitted signals.

The objective of this assignment is to construct a simple 2km FM TRANSMITTER circuit and perform the real test in the Laboratory.

2km FM Transmitter Note: L3 can be a VK220J type radio frequency chokes (RFC)

Work Programme: Simulate the FM transmitter circuit using anyone software like MULTISIM. Next, construct a simple 2km FM transmitter circuit. Then transmit your voice from the Transmitter which you have constructed to the Receiver [a FM radio can be used]. Show that the received voice is the same as the transmitted voice with the help of a speaker in the Laboratory. In addition, show that the FM transmitter circuit works for a transmission range of 2km. Please include the simulation results in the report. In addition, discuss different methods on how the circuit might be developed or enhanced to achieve improved performance. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA : 1) Clear Technical Theory details related to the Assignment. [20 % ] 2) Achievement of the correct circuit Transmitter. for the 2km FM [20 % ] 3) Proper explanation of how 2km FM Transmitter works. [10 % ] 4) Successful simulation of the circuit using any software. [10 % ] 5) Able to perform the full test in the laboratory and also able to answer the questions related to the constructed circuit. [10 % ] 6) Discuss on your practical and simulation work. In addition, provide suggestions on how the circuit can be improved to achieve better performance. [20 % ] 7) Write a brief conclusion on your work. [10 % ]

Appendix A
Instructions to Students about Abstract, Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion and Reference Abstract The abstract provides a brief overview of the substance of the report; usually no more than half a page. It is not an introduction to the topic. The abstract should outline all the key features of your report, including the topic, what you did and how you did it, and the main outcomes of your work. The abstract:

states the topic of the report outlines your approach to the task if applicable gives the most important findings of your research or investigation, or the key aspects of your design

states the main outcomes or conclusions.

Introduction The introduction provides the background information needed for the rest of your report to be understood. It is usually half to three-quarters of a page in length. The purpose of the introduction is to set the context for your report, provide sufficient background information for the reader to be able to follow the information presented, and inform the reader about how that information will be presented. The introduction includes:

the background to the topic of your report to set your work in its broad context a clear statement of the purpose of the report, usually to present the results of your research, investigation, or design

a clear statement of the aims of the project technical background necessary to understand the report; e.g. theory or assumptions.

All figures, tables and equations must be labeled properly. Discussion In the Discussion section you should give an overall appraisal of the results of your work. It is here that you will have the best opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the work and to give a critical account of what has been achieved. Conclusion The Conclusion is a short summary of the results of your work (about 200 words). The Conclusion should follow naturally from the Discussion. It should give a concise statement of what has been achieved. Anticipated application of techniques developed should be summarized very briefly. The Conclusion should be self-contained, i.e., it should not make reference to any sections, figures, or references in the report. References All references to books, papers, and other publications must be fully and correctly quoted to be useful to the reader. GOOD LUCK
