EDLD 5311 Fundamentals of Leadership and Technology

Week 2 Assignment Overview

Last week, you developed a sense of where you stand as an aspiring leader by completing eight self-assessments. This week, you will document your professional experience and accomplishments by developing a professional vita. The vita is a vital tool for those aspiring to leadership positions. Developing a vita that highlights your leadership accomplishments not only provides those evaluating you for a leadership position a snapshot of who you are and what you will bring to the position, it also serves as a motivational tool for you to seek new opportunities for improvement and professional growth. Your second assignment this week requires you to interview two leaders at your district or on your campus. As you ask these individuals questions related to their leadership styles, strategies, and experience, you will gain insight into not only what they believe are the essential skills of a leader, you will also be able to measure your own leadership knowledge and skills against those who currently hold positions of leadership in your learning environment.

Week 2 Assignment, Part 2: Leadership Interviews

For your second Week 2 assignment, you will conduct interviews with two respected educational leaders. You have the choice of whom you wish to interview, but it is recommended that you interview persons who are highly respected as leaders in your school or district. This may be a principal, a central office supervisor, an athletic director, or a person who fills a position of interest to you. At least one of your interviews should be with a principal. Interviews will typically be 20 minutes in length, and should be scheduled in advance. Each interview must elicit responses to the questions provided below. You may ask additional questions if you so desire, or follow-up questions to the ones listed. If you ask additional questions, put them at the end of the list. Take detailed notes during your interviews. For each question, write the responses given by the interviewee. Keep the same order as the questions listed below. If some responses are lengthy, summarize or include highlights of the response. Once you have finished both interviews, write a 300-500 word reflection on what you learned. When you are finished, post interview responses and reflections to the group discussion board. Students are advised to read other interview responses posted by other group members.
