digital evolution made by friends portfolio 2011

What we do briefly.
Facebook - Solutions
We provide a rock solid framework to create facebook applications without pain and with concentration on the features they need. If you want, they allow you to manage content and measure success.

Professional Web Software

Our clients are startups or classical enterprises as well as communication agencies.

Mobile Content Solutions

App Development is pain. So we help you with hosted content management solutions that just work like a native app.

API Based Web Applications

You don't need to reinvent the wheel unless it's your USP. We have a team specialized to make websites based on external api's easy.

Business Applications
For project-, document- and knowledge management we offer open source, hosted or custom solutions that just fit to what you do.

How we work

With Agile Techniques, including Paircoding if possible Test Driven Using an own Solid Prototyping Toolkit for fast response Using stable Open Source if available Writing own software instead of loosing time Providing own webservices or using other APIs to speed up development Forcing PHP Software into our workflow. With a colorful mixture of international people.

Friends and Partners

We love to work with other agencies full of creativity and with a deep understanding for how technology can be used.

Drupal

For the campaign heimat-almanya.de a video community with social media integration was created with drupal.
partner:

Open Source Social Network

For the main association of fair trade stores Weltlden we were proud to use crabgrass as an social network for young people returning from an exchange program. Essentially the eventcalendar was developed and created for this client.

Together with riseuplabs from USA with crabgrass at that point the only real alternative to facebook to be used by NGOs was created as AGPL Open Source Software. We developed various features, like complex group structures, galleries, wikis, event calendar, filebrowser and a powerful sharing and permission system

For an initiative to create the international communication platform for pirate party we used crabgrass due to its built-in democracy features.

Unicef used Crabgrass for various campaigns and projects and was the leading client partner for two years.

Startups
One thing we really love is to bootstrap and speed up startups, bring our experience and knowledge into their teams.

With vaovia.com we created the state of the art technology for user generated Cvs. Users can choose from different themes, edit all relevant data and export a perfect PDF.

Doonited was bootstrapped by us and the first project we created with our rock solid prototyping tool kit. The cool design of Doonited's artist made this work fun. The application runs on Heroku and uses various modern techniques.

Twotickets is a python based platform, where we supported the existing team and helped with creating a rather difficult search with Apache Solr.

Friendticker asked us to create a very lightweight service oriented architecture as a prototype for scaling purposes. We made our choices and it is really lightweight.

Echo is a platform for democratic dialogues in large groups. So the difficulties of the platform lie in integration with other services as well in a complex semantical model.

We support helpster and pointoo creating the applications for their backend processes.
partner:

meandyou.com is the revolution in dating and we can't say more for now.

Social Media Applications

For Warner Brothers we created a Facebook App with a contest where the winner could get a meet and greet with one of the actors. It involves a nice workflow for setting up the contest logic via CSV-Import and some nice UI behaviour. http://facebook.com/Maennerherzen2.Film
partner:

For Asus DJ Challenge powered by Intel we built another contest App on Facebook where users could upload remixes to soundcloud and rate them.
partner:

PHP driven Websites

For the NGO Revela from brazil we integrated Worpress with the leading mapping and reporting platform Ushahidi. http://revela.org.br/
partner:

For Europarc Germany we will have created the easiest way to work with Wordpress Multisites ever. Coming 2012.
partner:

API based high end content aggregation

The idea was, to use several Google APIs to create a beautiful website. Therefore with our partner adap:to we implemented a stack of high end caching and parsing technology, that made this task easy and acts like a real CMS. www.collaboratory.de
partner:

With fortiusone we integrated the GeoIQ API to support the combining of GeoCommons Maps and Open Data with social sharing and collaboration.

Mobile Applications

On collonil-organic.de runs an ipad optimized microsite for product introduction.

Business Applications

We create software for your custom workflows

We worked a lot on redmine, to make it fitting better to real world needs. We implemented features like a better binding to GIT, better integration of email, better notifications, better queries and so on. Some of these features will be available on services 2012. Many of these things have been made possible by our partners.
partner:

We started creating custom CRM and sales applications and kind of specialized a bit on that. Rails makes it pretty easy and we have a good toolkit to do it fast and efficiently. In our opinion it has become a real alternative to doing things manually or switching over large and expensive vendors, you know what we mean.

Technologies we know, recommend, use and like:

Wordpress and Drupal when requested or it just fits Django, when Python is a must. Rails, when ever we can do it. Sinatra, when Rails is overkill. Plain Rack when Sinatra is overkill. Cucumber, Capybara, Rspec and Selenium for Tests MySQL and PostgreSQL in most cases because it works. MongoDB when document structure is relevant. CouchDB when the application logic goes into the database. RabbitMQ, Redis, Memcached and Drb to make things fast and flexible. Jquery and Backbone-JS for UI Development. CSS3 geek stuff, when the project relies on modern browsers. Solr when we need a powerful search engine (though we are good in SQL still) Capistrano and Chef for Setup and Deployment.

If we find time, we support for fun: mail. maps. search. edit. davical. lists. weblogin.
