Job Opening Program Director, Seward Community Bike Walk Center A Program of Seward Neighborhood Group

The Seward Community Bike Walk Center (SCBWC) is a community bike center located at Minnehaha Avenue and 22nd Street in the Seward Neighborhood, one block from the Hiawatha LRT bike trail. This community bike center, a program of the Seward Neighborhood Group (SNG), is due to open in June 2012 after final approval of a federal grant through Bike Walk Twin Cities. The vision of the program is to provide an education, repair, and community space offering free build-a-bike and commuter education programs for youth and adults to promote the use of bicycles for transportation purposes. The center, while serving all communities, will initially concentrate on promoting bike riding in the East African immigrant communities in the Seward, Cedar Riverside, Ventura Village and East Phillips neighborhoods of Minneapolis.
This is an 80%, salaried position that is funded through 2013, pending outcomes deemed satisfactory by the primary funder, Bike Walk Twin Cities. This position will not be filled

until final approval of the funding documents by MnDOT, the Federal Highway Administration and the City of Minneapolis in early May, 2012.
Salary: $28,000-32,000/year depending on qualifications and experience. Deadline for applications: Monday, May 7, 2012, 5 PM

Responsibilities The Program Director will be the staff manager in charge of ensuring all elements of program operations and grant compliance. Specifically, the Program Director will be held responsible to: Meet budget, reimbursement, reporting, and documentation requirements as outlined by Bike Walk Twin Cities, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration Seek out additional funding for program enhancement during program years 1 and 2 Raise funds, including foundation grants, government grants, corporate gifts, and individual donations to sustain the program beyond the term of federal funding Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with community partner organizations and community ambassadors Organize bike drives to ensure an adequate supply of bicycles for both education programs and retail sales Participate in neighborhood outreach and bike advocacy events to publicize the program Communicate effectively with the SCBWC Management Committee (comprised of representatives from SNG, Sibley, and the Hub) as well as the SNG Board of Directors by submitting written monthly reports, attending all Management Committee meetings, and participating in SNG Board meetings as requested Maintain accurate and complete records of program participation including number of patrons served, number of bicycles repaired, and number of miles ridden; record in-depth stories of patron successes through interviews Develop and implement assessment tools to judge the impact and effectiveness of the program

Provide staff leadership and management including coordinating hiring and staff performance reviews in working with a SCBWC staff of 3-5 Positively engage youth as future leaders Promote volunteer leadership by creating opportunities for community volunteers to help out and increase their level of engagement Develop and implement quality control standards for repaired bicycles for programs and retail sales Coordinate media outreach and publicity including writing press releases, seeking out media coverage, and publicizing events (e.g. Bike Center Grand Opening) Act as a liaison to contractors/partners

Qualifications At least 3-5 years experience in program or organizational management Fundraising and grant management/reporting expertise (experience with government grants a plus) Ability to manage large programs and monitor multiple outcomes Skills in community outreach and engagement of low-income communities, communities of color, and immigrant communities (in particular East African communities) Ability to commit to the full term of employment (through December 2013) Committed to working towards promoting cycling as a viable transportation option Working mechanical knowledge and cycling confidence is desired but not required Benefits: Seward Neighborhood Group provides health care coverage to full time staff and pro-rated coverage to part time staff.
