Overview: The Student Development Specialist reports to the Director, Student Development (DSD) and has primary responsibility in four areas: 1) Coordinate and implement New Student Orientation three times/year; 2) Student advising and advocacy; 3) In collaboration with other Student Affairs Directors and under the leadership of the ADSA develop, implement, and evaluate programs designed to improve student success and satisfaction, and build a strong sense of community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Contribute to the updates for the RUSM Student Handbook; recommend, implement, and where applicable enforce policies and procedures as they relate to the student experience and environment. Assist students with issues of emergency leave, academic leave, withdrawal and when applicable emergency evacuation. Act as a liaison with administrators. Participate in meetings and seminars related to student affairs matters. Ensure students feel connected by encouraging student engagement including student initiated projects and community service programs.

Co-Coordinator, with Director of Student Development for Returning Student Orientation. Serve as resource to students and student affairs office and as liaison in student concerns and student behavior; collaborating with Directors of Student Development and Professional Standards & Judicial Management. Shares evening and weekend on-call duties. Assists in maintenance of student affairs content on websites related to student affairs. Participate in budget construction and oversight Participate in committees related to student affairs. Assist Associate Dean for Student Affairs on projects/activities and program assessment and evaluation as directed Develop printed materials, information packets, brochures and email communications esp as they relate to new student transition and on-boarding to Dominica. Major contributor and participant to Semester Start-Up Meetings Works closely with New Student Coordinators, Admissions and Ross Housing to enhance the communication and transition activities for new students Attends weekly Student Affairs Leadership Team meetings

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Master's degree (PhD, EdD preferred) in higher education administration, college student development, counseling, or related field. Desirable experiences include:

Study abroad programs New student orientation especially as it relates to graduate students Graduate or professional school student advising Program development and assessment Oversight for student government and student clubs and organizations

Strong multi-cultural proficiency Positive, pro-active approach to student affairs work Ability to be a productive and high performing team member in a fast paced, occasionally stressful environment Ability to respond calmly in crisis Excellent written and verbal communication skills Understanding and acceptance of a Student Affairs Collaboration Model; the ability to develop and sustain positive relationships across all departments of RUSM, including the New Jersey and South Florida offices.
